It’s so logical…which makes me wonder why it’s not more common?

Most OEMs design to features (cosmetics, MOI, etc...) that can be optimally marketed, not necessarily ones that optimize performance. Maltby designs for best performance first and foremost. They are focused on maximizing value to build brand loyalty and have now improved the cosmetics. Winning approach as far as I am concerned.

Some have stated that they don't believe in it,....but if we look at the measurement listings from the various companies, we see quite a few that have high ratings.

Most of us here that have tested and used them over a period of time....and have taken the time to understand what the measurements translate to for detailed impact points on the face, know that it is a valid design concept

Hi Stu,

How are the DRT out of the sand compared to the Max Milled 58 1.05?

Could not get the TSW DRM 56 out of the sand.  Very difficult for me BUT LOVE my Max Milled 58 1.05 out of the sand.

So far I haven't had any issues out of the sand. I will still admit that the Max have a slight edge on the DRT's in that category but not by much. So far I'm really liking them.

My experience is that the TS3 is much better on toe strikes than the TE’s.

My miss is heel. Are the TE is better on the heel?

that's off of mats?

Yes, off of mats 💀. All I can think of right now is that debris from range balls got into the mat or something and I was just swinging into it 🤷‍♂️ But like I said, just felt like normal swings, didn't notice until I put the club back in the bag.

Good to know that this isn't a common experience with the DBM though.

That's really strange. Are there actual indentations to confirm that these are indeed in the steel and not just superficial?

I've had my DRT's for almost 2 months now and this is what they look like after been beaten to hell and back. This includes many shots off of AZ desert with granite pebbles, and many a bunker shot from what we refer to as "dirt traps" here. As you can see there are some good deep scratches, but they've really only changed to more of a graphite color.

I played the OG DBM's for about 2 seasons and they were very similar to these. When I sold them, they didn't show any signs of silver coming through. Just a dull dark gray color.

Yes unfortunately they are indentations, I can feel them when I run my fingernail over them. I'm pretty stumped. Especially if that is what yours look like after a lot of use. That is what I would expect after use vs exposed metal. But glad to know that yours have held up well!

Hopefully this is just a weird one-off thing and I got a bad range mat with some debris. It's a pretty nice range with Trackman bays etc but I don't know how well the mats are maintained.

Has anyone had the chrome stripped from the TS4? I know one person on Reddit plated them in copper but I'm curious about just stripping them and playing them raw/letting them patina. I have a set of Nike Forged Blades at Doug Oughton's right now, but I am curious if there were any examples of this with the TS4 in particular.

Doug is great.

It looks more like the club was placed

down on some stones or the like rather than hitting off a mat with some stones.  There are no brush scratches as you would expect from a swing, just a few little dots

My guess is that some sand or small pebbles were stuck down in the fibers of the mat.

Popeye, you are the expert on Maltby. TE+ vs TS3? What is more forgiving, better looking, better spin and so on?

These two designs are so close in specs I was surprised they even produced the TS3. It almost comes down to personal preference. If you blind tested them it would probably come down to feel. On that note 10 different players will be split on which head feels better. Normally there are some defining feature that separates Maltby designs. They can be subtle but they add up. These two heads are as close as current models get.

Honestly choose the one that suits your eye better. It's that close.

Hello all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I thought I would share some pics and feedback about the DMB and TE+ irons as I prepare to sell one set and finish building another since some questions were asked recently.

I built the DBM irons on Apollo Acculite 75/85 shafts in November and have played probably 20 rounds on them along with a similar number of range sessions. I've enjoyed them but something about the total weight or swing weight has always been too light compared to how my KE4 Max irons with Recoils play and has contributed to more heel strikes than I would like. They've held up well and the finish is primarily rubbing away on the sole and sweet spots.

The TE+ set pictured I just built from a great ebay deal on the heads and put on old Score shaft pulls I had. So far on the range I've hit these much more consistently in the middle of the face and probably half a club longer so I think I'm really going to like them. They definitely feel more solid and firm than the DMBs when struck well, but still feel buttery smooth which the heavier shafts may also contribute to.

The TE+ is only the second full set of irons I've built and in a friend's garage over the weekend so give me some grace on build quality!

The DBM with the acculite 85 is going to be nearly 20 grams lighter then the TE+ with Score LT shaft.  More than likely that's what's messing with your swing.

I'm thinking that's correct. I hit my ke4 max irons in Recoils at around 68 grams really well and they feel good but I think I've added lot of head weight on those and with the DBMs did not put nearly enough in the tip weights to give that same feel. I've got a slow average swing speed so we'll see how the Scores go.

Does anyone find that the TE+ launches lower than the TS4?

I'm struggling a little with launch with my TE+ 4 & 5 irons from the fairway. I think it's more of a shaft issue, since I just started using the Dart V 120 F4. I was previously playing AMT White, and the long iron shafts were a bit lighter, and a little softer.

I'm going to keep playing the TE+ for another month or so to see if I just need to adjust to them, but I may swap out the 4 & 5 iron shafts for 105 F4, and soft step them 2x. If I do that, I'll probably just grab some TS4 4&5 irons too.

No.  The TE+ has a lower AVCOG.  Everything else is basically the same.

There's no detail that would indicate that they flight lower than the TS4.  The TS3 has a slightly lower AVCOG than the TE+, so that could be an option for you

Just an update for the high handicappers out there thinking about ts4s. Shot an all time personal best 91 today. Everything was working for the most part. Even on shots that were fat I got bailed out by the forgiveness of the ts4.

I bought them to keep lofts similar to my old set, but out of all my rounds, the irons have never been the problem. Even if you are a s*** 28 handicapper, you can be rewarded by these clubs.

I hear you say that....but not sure in my financial situation I'm ready to take that $600-700 experiment. I think I'm STI2 or maybe spoil myself with TS3's when I get some of my excess bills paid off.

I have found this to be the case also. I hit a 4 iron into a par 5 with 230 to the flag, it carried 215 and ran up onto the green. A flush strike, it only got 40 feet off the ground. I’ll compare against my TS4 long irons and see if the extra loft makes a difference.

That's a key point on the loft.  An accurate comparison would need to have each one measured for actual loft, in order to account for manufacturing tolerance

If a flush strike with an iron is only going 40 ft in the air...it's time to consider a hybrid or fairway wood.  (I speak from personal experience...)

This was me spoiling myself with a set of irons I will be happy with for 10ish years.  Maybe the score shafts work for you and you can save a few hundies.  My 7i SS dictated that I shouldn't really be playing those shafts, as I had balooning issues with my previous irons (105g reg flex).

Regardless, the STI2 is on my list for my fiancée potentially when she is ready for a full set. She is more of a sweeper, so potentially TS3 as well, but she isn't quite there yet game wise.  If she keeps improving she will be soon though.

Faster Swing Speed = Wider Dispersion.  Just trying to get better at golf.
