I had just read a lot of people that were not loving the DRT wedges.  When I saw that video, it certainly shocked me where the CG was on that club. Regardless, if they work for everybody or not, it just seems like an odd placement for the CG. Maybe his wedge is way off compared to most?

A few days ago I asked about the COG of DRT wedges vs. Max Milled.  You will want to read this answer from Britt: https://ralphmaltby.com/questions/question/drt-vs-max-milled-c-dim-cog/

“Wedge playability has a lot more to do with the sole width, sole angle and leading edge height than where the cg is.” - Britt

“If the DRT sole works for you, they are fantastic wedges.” - Me

Maybe I should ask for a job 🤣

That is FANTASTIC-- what color of paintfill did you use on the alignment aids?    I have been wanting to build that putter with the short slant hosel..... I may go Blue..

Since I just don't play anywhere near as much as I used to, my upper bag could use some help. Plus im half a year into 60... Ouch! After seeing a few legends of golf playing nearly all hybrids above a 7 iron I'm certainly leaning that way. If some of the former #1s in the world can play them... well.

If I'm going to fail at a shot its most always with a 6 or higher. Poor contact is usually the culprit. Ill be left with a weird distance into the hole instead of being comfortably on the green. I have a Cobra T rail 4H that a customer gave me. I put a RTI 105 S flex in it. It's been my most reliable club in the bag. So I've been wanting to try to go deeper down the bag.

I made up TC Pro IST Hybrid 3 and 6. The 3H is the same loft as the Cobra 4H. So that wasn't much of a surprise when that club performed well. Nearly identical performance to the Cobra. What I was most interested in was the 6H.

I didn't get it on the monitor, but had a session in thick range grass. It's like a damn cheat code. It's near impossible to hit a bad shot. Gets up quickly and has a nice flight to it. Barely seemed to move left or right, just went straight. It went so well ill built the 4 and 5H. I'll certainly have to swallow some pride when I show up with some of the better player groups I see on course.

I did quite a bit of head to head with the KE4 Max 6 iron. I certainly hit some quality shots with the Max, but the TC is just a whole other level of consistency and height. The difference between a poor shot hit with the Max, and a poor shot with the TC is shocking.

I'm back at work and will be awhile before I can grab some good data, but my bag may be making a drastic make over.

Interesting as his issues with the DRT are when he tries to open the face. He says he likes it with a square face. So seemingly the COG is less of an issue and the grind/bounce are more of the problem for him.

YEP-- I am 64 and picked up the IST #5 hybrid when they first came out.  I love mine.  It is like cheating in rough. So many people I play with can't believe what it does from a tough lie.

I still carry a #5 iron-- but for how much longer is in question.    I will be following your journey with the progression of these closely.

I used the previous version of the MPH shaft from Maltby.   What shaft did you use?

62 and I have had a 23 and 20 degree pair of zero offset hybrids in the bag. The 23 is my go to club from the deep tough we have in MD this time of year.  I saw the video of Couples talking about how many head covers he has in his bag now. lol

I'm using the Xcaliber Rapid Taper. Which is freakishly good as a hybrid shaft. 105g S flex. The slightly longer build length keeps it from being overly stiff. Unfortunately my supply of shafts is just about all that's left of the Rapid Tapers.

I'm very tempted to make my own personal production run,  again, if I can get Robin to sign off on it. Even though the company is basically DONE.. he still has to OK it with the factory.

So Mid July I'll have the time to carry the 3-6H in the bag and play a few rounds. Ive got a couple of longer courses in mind, that really puts stress on my normal bag.

I believe they will fly high enough, that balls may stop on the greens. But even if they don't the percentage of being on or just off the green should go way up VS long iron play.

My days of playing every hole, driver/9i or wedge are long gone.

Lol. Yah it makes for a crowded bag or just let they clang all over the place. Maybe some thin material head covers would help.  Freddie has always been my favorite golfer.

Popeye what length are you playing the hybrids vs the KE4 Max? I prefer to build mine to the same length as my iron equivalent and add lead tape as necessary.

Hey @Popeye64, are you still playing the TS1-IM? If so, where do you see the TC Hybrid 6 (29*) fitting in your bag? Are you replacing your 6i at 29deg? Reason I'm asking, I need something a little longer than my 5i at 25deg, since the 4i is just a disaster for me. At standard hybrid club lengths, I'm inclined to go with the 4H at 23deg, and I could always shorten the shaft a bit (or choke down) to fix the gap with my 5i. Or do you think the 5H at 26deg with the standard hybrid length would get me the gap I need?

Took a chance on a set of TS3s with the Score shafts.  Have played nippon the last decade so hoping these shafts are at least ok

I came from modus 105 in stiff to Score in stiff and have barely noticed a change. Maybe just a touch higher ball flight but you can knock them down if need be.

I'm in love with my almost all Maltby bag (putter is a Ping Tyne that isn't going anywhere), but the one change I'm pondering is a TC 4 hybrid or 9 wood in place of my TE+ Black 4 iron, which I can hit fairly well off the tee but very inconsistently from rough or even some fairway lies. Going to be a hard ponder this offseason.

I change irons like I change my underwear. I just officially retired my PTM Blacks. Sold them oncourse. I've got the KE4 Max in the bag for right now.

I will be building a short set of TS4. 7-GW. That will give me my break at 29.5° vs the 29° 6H. So I can be very aggressive with my short irons as the TS4s are like throwing darts.

Now I can play a 6 iron but 1 out of 4 shots, suck. The 6H should eliminate the... I have no idea where it's going balls.

As for gapping guesstimates... 29° is 29°. Struck properly they should go damn close to the same distance. Spin rates will dictate the biggest variences.  If you build the Hybrids and irons the same length, same shaft, performance should be very close. The Hybrid will really mask poor strikes. But solid for solid shots should be really close.

I'm 58-1/2.  I got rid of my 5 iron 2 years ago.  Still have the 6i but it gets used less and less.  Just changed my driver shaft to R flex last week.

I'll be 59 in about 6 weeks.  I had ditched the 5i a few years back but recently put it back in.  Sort of a specialty club as I have three par 3's I am likely to use it on.  I had some luck with a TC Pro 5h with RT95 shaft, but I don't think I got the build quite right so it's been sitting.  I have a RogueX/iRod 95 5h that plays as a 4h for me.  I figure I will have 6h, 5h and maybe 4h soon if I can figure out the build.

Haven't gone to R in the driver yet just because I haven't liked the R shafts I've tried, but it's coming.

I have a Cleveland DST 5h from around 2013 with a Diamana R.  That's my 160-165 club.  Was thinking of picking up a Maltby Tour TC Pro IST 5h with the Pro Series-R PAK.  $100 w/shipping But I hit the cleveland so well.  I have the Cleveland 2022 model HyWood 3+ and the new Cleveland Halo 4h.  I hit both extremely well.  My 190-200 and 170-180 clubs
