FST 115 shafts

Tell me why these are a waste of time/money, or are they of decent quality?

Here`s the deal, I currently play Cobra King F6`s, and I believe they have FST 90 Flighted shafts in them. I just got a set of Steelhead XR`s which have the TT XP 95r300 in them, the XP95`s have been tested on a frequency scale twice and play about 10 points weaker than the Cobra shafts, I`m told the XP`s are pushing senior/weak regular flex. They balloon and slice like crazy for me.

The Cobra`s play pretty well, but I would like something a tad stiffer. So my thought is to pick up FST 115`s and have them cut to about half a flex stiffer than the Cobra shafts. Any thoughts on this?

The FST 115 isn't a bad shaft by any means, just a mid-weight high(ish) launching shaft similar to the XP115, Dynalite Gold XP, etc. They're a budget offering in the $8-$10/shaft range but there's definitely nothing wrong with them if they fit. Another similar budget offering that's even less expensive is the Dynalite 109 and Dynalite 100 (both in the same weight range as the 115s, despite the naming)... check Diamond Tour for good deals on those.

The FST 115 isn't a bad shaft by any means, just a mid-weight high(ish) launching shaft similar to the XP115, Dynalite Gold XP, etc. They're a budget offering in the $8-$10/shaft range but there's definitely nothing wrong with them if they fit. I believe the Taiwanese company which makes the FST shafts also makes shafts for KBS. As an aside, I have often wondered if FST stands for Formosa Steel Tubing (Formosa being an early name for Taiwan).

I broke a couple rifle 5.0 shafts and replaced them with the pro 125s trimmed in stiff flex. Imo they play a little weaker than rifles and feel a little softer. I put them in a 8 and 4 iron. The 8 was fine. It seemed to spin a bit more because the gapping between my 8 and 9 got closer. The 4 iron however would leak right every time. While my other clubs were going straight. Quickly found a rifle blank and switched it out. Not a bad shaft for $8.

think you would need X flex in the FST to match the 5.0

I wouldn't say they're miles apart. I have a smoother transition so I can get away with playing softer flexes. I actually liked the feel on half shots with the 8 iron. However, I think someone with a harder transition may want to go up in flex. I could see them overpowering this shaft. That might explain why I couldn't square up the 4 iron.
