New irons or Status Quo - Spin concern

I’m getting older and I’ve lost some distance over the last couple years, so went in to demo some irons and want to hear people’s thoughts. I’m playing Ping i200 with KBS Tours. Launch was about 20*, spin about 6k using my 7 iron. Tried a few different irons, settled on the TM 790s being the biggest competitor. Here’s where I need input. Fitter put me in KBS FLT x flex shafts, launch stayed about the same, but my spin dropped to between 5k to 5300. Dispersion/feel were much better with the 790s. Swing speed and ball speed were comparable with both in that 80-85 mph range, with ball speed around 125 +/- 5 mph.

 

I gained about a club with the 790s but I’m worried that the spin is too low and will cause me problems. Thoughts?

Those spin numbers are playable of you have enough peak height and a steep angle of decent. You still could have plenty of stopping power.....it just will not be as reliant on spin.

Totally agree with JR. Two ways of controlling stopping power on the greens. Spin and Angle of descent.

Look up TXG on you tube. He has some great explanations about your specific concern. I even think it was in a post relating to either a fitting of , or a review of the 790s.
