Recreating Tiger’s new putter

Am (and have always been) a classic blade type of putter guy. Have a moderate arc to my stroke and they work great. Never liked mallets or double-bendy shafts.

Am also an unabashed Tiger fan! Outside of his play, I have always admired his attention to detail on equipment and how he is very precise about what he plays.

And when the goat switched to the Ardmore 3, I had to check it out. I have to admit that the small, slant-neck Ardmore 3 with the moderate toe-hang feels great and suits my stroke. The only issue is that TM does not make that in black / black copper. The one that they sell in that finish is the plumber neck. The one that they sell in the right model is red.

So I picked up the right style in Red and am going to get the wonderful craftsmen at Continental Golf refinish it in black or black-copper, if they can do it. And with a Pingman grip on it, we should be pretty close.

Curious if anyone else has tried this.

Small note: if you don’t like Tiger, or have issues with people liking his game, style of play, equipment, etc, I respectfully ask that you move on and spare us the negativity.

I'd wondered if someone had done this already, but I'll be keeping up with this to see how it turns out. I will say that I don't think Tiger's is the black copper finish. His looks straight black. Hope it turns out looking good.

Baffling this putter is not available in the black/copper finish

What's really baffling is they came out with another Ardmore 3, and now it's red/white instead of just red. "Inspired by cosmetic requests from some of the Tour’s best putters" Uhhh... OK... I haven't seen a single tour player with a red/white putter. Maybe I missed it.

Hossler has had a red/white Ardmore 2 in his bag for much of the year (not sure if he's still gaming it or not). He was the first one I saw with the red/white, but I know Rose had tested some different combos also.

I fully expect a black/copper Ardmore 3 to be released at some point in the future, but I don't think we'll see a black one like Tiger's.

Is the insert he uses just a different color or is it a completely different material as well?

OP, you are in luck......I have done all the legwork for you :) and think I can be of some help. Bottom line, send it to BOS. Explanation, below....

Be VERY careful who send it to as the insert needs to be removed and there is a special double sided tape that TM uses under it. Only some re-finshers know this and the tape is VERY hard to find....but, BOS has the tape and knows how to affix it....

If you send this to someone who doesn't know or care, the putter will NEVER feel the same. Also, if you simply get it "painted" the quality will suffer.

The good news, BOS golf has guys who HAVE THE TAPE and (I believe) worked for TM/Kia Mia when they were doing inserts (have been for 10+ years).

I actually emailed with BOS last week, sent them pics of the Ardmore 3, etc and they CAN do it. I trust them as they did a Spider of mine; it feels exactly the same. They will take the insert out, refinish it black (easy for them as they are insanely talented) and re-affix the insert. They CANNOT refinsih the insert itself, so, it won't be identical to TW's as his insert is red (Ardmore insert red is black). So, it won't be identical but darn close.

Finally (and strangely) they told me they do not have the tool that removes the sole weights. It's a three prong wrench and TM is sold out of it.

Those need to come out in order to do the work. They asked that I remove them before sending; I just can't find the wrench.

Trust me, you do NOT want a TM insert putter done by someone who doesn't understand how they are affixed in the putter, itself. I had a Spider done years ago by a person that had never done a Spider. Not his fault; honest mistake, but...... The thing felt like an empty pop can on a stick and sounded about as bad.... it was an honesty mistake, but, taught me that this is not a simple refinish job like a Cameron....

Good luck. I'm likely right behind you on this project! Just waiting for the snow to fall here in MN so I'm not agonizing when it's gone....

Final notes: I agree TM SHOULD and WILL release this putter. They would be INSANE not to. I'm predicting Ryder Cup as Tiger will make the team.

Second, re: the post about the red/white one. I think Rose might have messed with that one a while and had it in play. But, you are right, not widely used on tour.

Feel free to message me, too. I can forward you my emails with BOS.

Good luck!

You are right! Not copper; it's matte black.

Sorry for the rapid fire responses here, but, good question point about the insert MATERIAL. Not sure and would love to know if it's the same....

Also, sorry that I repeated so much of what was already stated in the thread (Hossler using, black not copper). I was just so excited to share that I didn't read it all!

A lot of ACCURATE responses, above!!!

I do think that the insert might be different. I was at my PGA Superstore a few weeks ago just hitting different putters. The insert in the black copper putters felt much better then the one in the red TP putters. I haven't read anything that suggests there's anything different besides the color, but they definitely feel different to me. The insert in the black copper ones (red insert) feels more like metal. The black insert feels more plastic like.

First, it's all about what shape and hosel you aim straight, then you refine with sightlines, then you get fit for shaft, counterweighting, head weight for distance control.

Trying to copy a head that may not fit your aim is a waste of time.

They may be listed as the same but they feel different in my opinion.

The red putter/black insert is much softer and the red insert in the TP Black copper is very similar to the original AGSI feel and look.

Maybe it’s a difference in the polymer or the amount, but the Black insert/red putter was much much more muted and the red insert/BC putter was more of a metal “ting.”

Yup! Can’t stand it....I do like the white alignment strip though....

Also, after yesterday, I might hold off on have my Red Ardmore 3 tigerized.... they have to have all hands on deck to get this released. Cash cow...

And, I can confirm that via SAM lab testing, the Ard 3 fits my stroke type ;) just in case anyone is planning on lighting me (and OP) up for wanting this putter with Tiger cosmetics

Yes, Tiger's is just a straight flat black. Surely TM will eventually release his putter, they would be crazy not to.

They need to do it right now. Strike when the iron is hot...

I would of thought they would of had it for pre-order within the first week or two of him using it. It has been about 1.5 months.

Maybe after yesterday they will get it out. It’s not like TM to capitalize on something like this.
