While they were not ones that allow early tee time booking, I've stayed at a house in town on both of my visits. For me, it's better than at the resort. Though that's partly because it's four of us and only two golfers, so it fits better for the non-golfers. But I would likely stay off property anyway. I enjoy having more space.

I have been in contact with the owner of the Bandon Manor- http://www.thebandonmanor.com/ about our trip in Bandon next fall. I was told that they can't "guarantee in writing that we will get resort rates on golf, but in the past others have and its 99% likely" which doesn't necessarily give me 100% optimism. From my experience, the lodging there is simply somewhere to sleep and store your luggage. We were golfing in one for or another from sun up to sun down, then drinks/cards until it was time to pass out.

Would certainly be interested to hear about anyone's experience who has stayed in the Manor though, if anyone else has.

I'm guessing their 99% is based on someone booking their place because they called up Bandon and Bandon was booked, so the resort works with the Manor proprietors to book times as if staying on property.

A couple of years ago we did a trip to Bandon and because my family traveled from New York and our friends traveled from California it only made sense to book super early to ensure our tee times. We decided it would be worth it to pay for a single room on property in order to be able to book early even though we each had separate houses about 15 miles south on the beach. Might be any idea for your group but it will add extra cost.

My buddies and I have stayed her for a few years now. We play in Feb, we still book accommodation at the resort (but don't use it)and this allows us to book a year out. We save on the greenfees as we are guests at the resort and we save money by doing all our own cooking, supplying our own drinks etc. The house is a palace and Brett (the owner) is super helpful. Staying at the resort does not and cannot compare to staying at this house. Its an amazing place and a great deal.

...oh, and its under 10 mins drive from the Bandon Resort

So you book a room for everyone in your group, then don't end up using it? How does this not end up more expensive?

Just make 100% sure with the course, you are allowed to play based on where you are looking to stay. My Dad told me last week you have to stay at the resort in order to get a tee time. I'm sure there are exceptions but just be aware you need to do your homework before committing.

They require a deposit of first nights lodging and round, or full deposit of booked tee times if not staying at the resort. Must cancel 30 days out.

We do the same over presidents day weekend.

You still book at the resort though? Explain? We are all from Oregon, so we just pay the resident rate.

I never said it was a money saver...although all accounted for it does save us a bit compared to eating every meal at the resort. Booking the accommodation allows us to pay the guest rate rather than the rack rate, plus we do all our own cooking and supply our own beer, whisky etc. Poker nights in the House are way cheaper than holding one in the Bunker Bar ! It's also much better as far as group dynamics are concerned(unless you don't actually like your golfing buddies)

The accommodations in this house are far better than anything offered at Bandon. We have a steam room, massive hot tub, home cinema theatre, speakers throughout the house, TVs in every room, outside BBQ kitchen, the list goes on.

Side note...we book three rooms for 8 guys. The allow a cot in a room for an extra charge......this also cuts down on cost a bit.

Ah.. I gotcha.

I know the house well, we've been going there forever. We don't often have open spots for our trip, but when we do, the newbies are always in awe of Brett's pad.

Might be slightly off topic but we stayed in Coos Bay in September and it was very affordable. Do the savings of staying in Coos Bay account for the difference in preferential greens fees? I don't know the answer to that. All I know is we stayed in a nice home in Coos Bay that met our needs in spades and it worked out wonderfully for us.

So when you get there, do you check in and just never stay? Or cancel the rooms?

"take that, you miserable little white swine!"
