How did the scoring work with regards to the junk? Is whatever junk that applies to the score that counts for the team on a given hole all that matters?

Say one team gets a greenie par, and one gets a par where they get up and down (not from a bunker). The hole is tied, but does the team with the greenie par get a dot on that hole?

Are birdies and eagles only for gross, or do you give dots for net as well?

Greenies are only par 3's, for one. Can't do GIR for everything.

There was confusion about that Saturday, too. "Greenies" in club talk are always just the closest guy on par 3's. That was part of the confusion with "sandies" too, I believe. Sandy to me is always par or better after any sand. Someone was thinking it was more like "up and down" like a pro sand save. Disagreement.

Junk on a hole pays no matter what happens on the hole. And, all junk pays. Both guys birdie, that's 2 dots.

Skins isn't a "pot" in a game like this. I've always play it in from 18 (edit : not a sentence. Pushes on 18 just blank. Poof. Liek Nerf said. Like a fart in the wind.)

18 was big for us on Saturday. C.Free went Airwolf on 17 and we pushed, so 18 was worth 5, and dingle 1 and dingle 2 both failed to U/D from 20 feet, and I lipped out a birdie-sandie combo that would have given us 7.

So all junk is in play, and it counts for all players on the team?

I'm trying to use scenarios to get the light bulb to click on.

Say A and B are a team. A makes a sandy par. B makes a birdie. They also win the hole (no multipliers). That's 3 dots to both A and B? But maybe it's a par 3, and player C made a greenie par. Does that give C and D each one dot, thereby making the hole a net of 2 dots each to A and B?

Does junk only apply to gross scores of par or better?

Yes to all of that.

I think.

Does junk only apply to gross scores of par or better? MOSTLY. SANDIES/WOODIES/GREENIES

I like the idea of Poley's, too, putts made from outside the stick, but you also don't want the game to start skewing too heavily towards low cappers if you have a mixed field. It's already a minor problem. But, I also think strokes are a pretty big advantage in this game, as a rule.

You guys are talking way too much about junk. This is practically an unprecedented level of jonseing for golf. I give you permission to take the afternoon off and go play.

Got out with Bae this morning. Dont sleep on him for the club championship. We rolled up cold and he made an ugly double on 1 from about 70 yards out, but had a birdie putt on 18 that probably would have put him at about 75. Though he hasnt played PB Dye before, which is a big disadvantage.

I played the par 3s in 1 over and shot 100. Putting, chipping, and irons were solid. Off the tee was horrific. I was hitting 3 off the tee a lot. I cant roll up and play well without hitting some warm up balls.

LOL.

If club championship has Sang Moon Bayrat, DownLow, GolferDrew in champ flight, this thing is gonna be LEGIT. Maybe toss in PQ, Fabb, MiniObee, YT.

Not seeing 80 (or whatever it was) win it this year.

Commish coming through big time with the answers. Much appreciated.

Now that I understand the scoring of the game better, I can really up the ante on making this great idea annoying.

I'm not even sure who and to what end this psychological warfare is directed, but eagle would certainly approve.

club championship gonna be great, gross and net divisions. not sure who's signing up yet, but...

- 12 guys with better than a 6 index (7 of those at 3 or better)

- 19 guys in the 6-12 range

- 17 guys in the 12-30+ range

pretty good distribution. flights will probably fall somewhere around those numbers, with some guys opting up (or down) depending on tees. stixbmore is flying in the day before to come play.

not playing pb dye before is a monumental disadvantage for most. bae can overcome tho. he'll have lots of great looks for par.

I played the par 3s in 1 over

that is fantastic!

shot 100.

that really is horrific!

the "new dad" warmup: rush to range, bum 3 balls off people that are already there (one wedge, one mid-iron, one driver), rush to putting green and hit 3 putts, then rush to first tee because you're already late. proceed to top your first one into the crap.

Here's some good golf content.

These are Sned's stats from the 59.

This is every shot he hit. Watch that and put the two together in your head.

it looked like he had a grand total of 1 "makeable" putt that he missed. ball striking was obviously on point. had a lot of non-perfect drives that didn't hurt him. on his 4th hole, he's at (+1) then cans a 26 footer for birdie. wonder if he knew it was coming.

Yeah, he hit a couple of balls to essentially tap in range, gaining almost a full stroke. Then, he hit one in the cup, gaining probably 1.5-2 strokes on the field. That's pretty much 3 of his 5.5 SG Approach on 3 holes.

He got up and down from the sand, and chipped one to 2 feet. That did a lot for his SG : Around the green.

Then, he putted very well, couple of longer ones. There's your 2.5 there.

Off the tee was clearly a pretty average driving day.

He gained 9.7 on the field for the day, which was great, but not as good as plenty of people have done when they didn't shoot 59.

I took my daughter out to River Bend GC this morning for the Drive, Chip & Putt sub-regional, and my son came along as her coach. He didn't advance out of the local DC&P because the boy's competition is much harder, even though he's the golfer and she isn't.

She didn't do very well, but it's all right. She only kept 1 drive in play, and her chipping wasn't great, even though she warmed up well. She is interested in playing more, and she had fun when we all played Blue Mash the other day, so that's the main thing.

The level of play at the sub-regional was much higher than the local tournament (not surprising). The girl that won our local, I thought for sure would win the sub, but she came in 6th. At the local her score beat all the boys, too. She didn't score as well today.

So driving back from a meeting today I stop at Waverly Woods. I have been looking for a grass driving range and this was perfect. Started off with my 9 iron and proceeded to hit 30-40 balls with 9/8 iron. Storm is moving in quick and I pull the driver out. At this point it is slightly raining and I proceed to take my glove off. Two minutes later it is pouring. I'm the only one on the range and its completely black but I will be damned if I'm not going to finish. Started hitting my drives decently and my draw has come a long way. Ended up being completely drenched though but I really liked the look of Waverly and will play there soon.

Waverly is one of the group faves and is in regular rotation. We're playing Thursday but we have 4.

The range is great. It's just a bit pricey, but you don't have a ton of options for grass ranges around. If you are going to be a regular there, they have a frequent hitter card.

It also has a great putting green and great chipping green.
