I'm pumped for the Hive Club Championship. At least I've actually played PB Dye once already a couple months back. I really liked it, even though it's hard AF. Dem greens, doe. I'm playing much better than I was back then at least. Hopefully the lower two flights are fairly even.

I'm fairly certain that Hive Club Championship is a go.

 

I haven't played PB Dye since the last time we did Turkey Shoot there, 3 or so years ago. I haven't played my own ball from the back tees there in probably 10 years.

 

It's definitely the kind of place you don't want to go into completely blind, so I'll have to try and get out there sometime in the next month, for a refresher.

Good. I wasn't sure since people could request adjustments. I just didn't want it to be 25 gold and 7 white because then I'd probably want to move to golds. Sounds like that won't really be an issue.

to encourage participation. there's likely going to be a wide difference between the low cap and higher cap, even after we split from the white and gold tees. that skews too much in favor of the lower cap. as a club, we've been playing together all year - our hcps are all legit. there will be no question of either of the net wins being legitimate.

 

of course, there is a gross division that you can choose to enter.

To even the playing field further, maybe starting after Labor Day (PRK surgery tomorrow so hopefully have vision back to good and can read a screen by then) everyone who has played PB Dye can share their tips and descriptions of holes so that just in case some people can’t make it up there to play they will still have a little heads up.

 

They could jot all of the tips down in a Sesame Street notebook like last year. (worked out pretty good)

Yeah, I guess "club championship" can mean a lot of things. I think plenty of medal championships are gross and net in the flights, which is what this is. Match play, I've always thought Champ. played at scratch and other divisions, net.

 

For a one-day 18 hole stroke play, I suppose we could do gross and net within each flight. I don't hate that. But, I'm not TD. Provides an incentive for excellence within flights.

What I should do - Go play it one or more times before the event, and take notes about tee shots, important features in the green sites, etc.

Actually, off the tee, there is nothing tricky. Very few blind shots, but the targets are easily identified. The greens can be diabolical. Definitely need to hit the right areas or you will have putts over mounds and valleys which could have several feet of break. If it gets dry and the greens speed up, yikes!

Very few blind tee shots? I guess it depends on your definition of blind. If you count it as not being able to see your ball land, Id say there are as many blind as not.
