Yup. Stanley Cups, world's best goalie, best defenseman, most dynamic players.....all adds up to a steaming pile of last place. Not to mention salary cap hell for years to come unless they nuke the team and give everyone away and start over. LA and CHI are going to be bad for years with no hope.

Maybe it's time we have a talk about these guys. :)

They get exactly how Vegas did it. But who knows what will happen????

St. Louis......wow. When you have players dropping the gloves and fighting, you'd generally like to see that against a proven winner, not your own teammates....in practice. LA, St. Louis and Chicago, the three worst teams in the league. Who woulda ever thought that could even be remotely possible.

Yep, pretty crazy when 2 of those 3 teams you named have won 5 Stanley Cups since 2010.

There's this guy, and there's everybody else. Sorry.

Yep, I'll agree - McDavid is on a WHOLE other level. He makes Auston Matthews look like 4th liner.

No thanks. I’ve already had a lifetime of enduring Maple Leafs exaggeration.

From what I've heard, read and understood, it might be a lot less stressful to be a Leafs fan with an ocean in between me and the Toronto media. The chances are I'd hate the Leafs too if I lived in Canada, excluding Ontario. :)

Yes the Leafs are a force this year. Next year..... I find it hard to sign both Matthews and Marner with Marner being the expendable one. But that’s next year. SJ came so close with JT (at least I’d like to think so lol) and to see him doing well with the Leafs just digs the thorn in my side a lil deeper.

Just glad to talk a lil puck every now and then. I’m the only guy in my office and I work with 5 women who just stare at me blank when I talk hockey or golf. So alone...... haha.

No, they'll get both signed, the expendable one of the three is definitely Willy. It'll be a tight squeeze and the defense might end up weaker with Gardiner gone but I struggle to see anyone other than Willy leaving. In my dreams the Leafs will win the Cup now and work out an Orpik arrangement with some team to get rid of Marleau's salary and sign him back at a lower rate or see him retire.

Of course, with Kapanen and Johnsson taking leaps forward, the trouble isn't limited to the big two unsigned ones. But I'm certain Dubas and the gang will figure it out.

If you want real salary cap trouble, look at Tampa Bay. :)

Victims of long term no trade contracts. LA, The Ducks and The Hawks all have this problem. Players would have to approve a trade. It is bascially a pension - thanks Stan Bowman.

Yes I agree Willy is def the most expendable one of Matthews, him and Marner. I was just commenting between Mathews and Marner. If I was Dubas I would’ve either traded Willy or let him sit out the season. Total BS move on Willy’s part to screw over the team and sit out til Dec 1. Demanding 7+ million/year seriously? Kapanen is playing good so who needs a Willy at 7 mil? I don’t get it.

Now if I was another GM I’d want no part of Nylander and all that BS he just pulled off. I’d want Marner. Dubas can dangle Marner at the deadline and maybe get Panerin or Seguin. Or he can resign him but he’s gotta take a hometown discount. Marleau’s contract is hurting them IMO.

Caps fan here...

Ovi on fire recently!

Pleasant surprise - I really thought there would be more of a let-down to start the year.

If they can get past the injury bug, should be in good shape a another potential run.

Ovi isn’t on fire. He’s full on nuclear!!!!!!!

Always loved that guy. So glad he finally got his name on SC.

Question: who would you guys take if you had to start a team. Ovi or Peter Forsberg.

Some would question Ovi’s heart. Some say he dogged a lot of games. Peter was prob never fully healthy in his prime. Forsberg was just awesome as well. He played on a better team and had better skill to play with. Tough to decide..

Ovechkin, no question. Far more durable. Best non-Oilers/non-Penguins forward of the past 40 years.

What I love about Ovi is that he has this edge that comes out and he likes to flat out drill you right into the next town over. Forsberg could dance around you and then the next shift he’ll go right thru you. Love both of these guy’s game.

And yes I agree Ovi has stood the test of time. As hard and heavy as he’s played, he’s been very durable.

It's amazing how the SC changes impressions - and esp the fact that he was the leading scorer for the SC champs.

A year ago - on any hockey board, the quotes you would have seen were - "not a leader", "no heart", "choker" etc etc -

even though his playoff production has always been high (with the exception of 3 or 4 game 7s esp v. PIT...which obviously are key)

definitely got the monkey off last year!

as a fan since the 70s I'm definitely still basking in it! :D

I had it DVR'd and finally watched it. Really good game. Reminds me of the Tampa Bay/Vancouver game from 2 years ago in that they played like it was a playoff game and not just regular season.

Pens fan boys... Welcome to the march of the penguins 2018-2019. That is a LOT of fire power between those two teams btw. Laine's a tremendous talent and both teams have good supporting casts. Jets power play = fun. Tampa is the deepest team in the east and its not debatable. (Kucherov, Stamkos, Hedman, Miller, Palat, Johnson, Vas, McDonagh, Girardi, Callahan) Watched Sharks - Kings.... Karlsson & Burns play together briefly for a shift or two last night. Thats a fun pairing to watch even though it was a PP.

The Isle. Holy ***balls. Take your best player off the team and now after 47 games they have more points than Boston, Washington, Pittsburgh and the same amount of points as Toronto and Smashville.

I don’t know their cap space, but they could pick up some players at the TD and go for a deep run in the playoffs. Who knew?!?!?!?!?

Trotz is one hell of a coach. By far had the worst goals against last year, now they Are near the top. I’m trying to not get too excited, but so far so good. Mat Barzal was their best player last year not JT. Yes they have cap space if they want to be buyers at the deadline. Just enjoying the ride right now, it’s been a while.

Yay, Muzzin! Rielly gets a first-pairing defenseman alongside him for the first time in his career. Can't wait to see how they turn out to be as a pair, on paper it looks very good. Of course, this means Gardiner is gone next summer but Dermott should be able to take his spot

Trade deadline came and past.

I hate that Vancouver traded Gudbranson. While he may not have been the world's best defensemen, he was the only toughness that team has had in quite some time.

I hope Winnipeg's trade for Hayes works out like Stastny did last year, but the odds of a blind squirrel finding a nut two times in a row seems unlikely.

Alright boys, on the eve of the SC playoffs, everyone’s got high hopes. Playoff stubble ready, sticks taped up, skates sharpened up, water bottles full, gear-funk smell on full blast. Elbows, ribs, knees and ankles all taped up. We are ready for the greatest trophy in all of sports. May your team go all the way. Mine....done in 5 vs. Vegas. Just sayin’.
