The Idea DHY is still my favorite club in that category. I had a 24° with the stock White Tie and it was pretty tough the beat.

I have been going through some Adams nostalgia lately.

I had the DHYs a while back but never really gave them a chance.

Also curious if they are comparable to the new driving irons/ hybrids like the Gapr, Crossover etc.

Yes to all. No shaft upgrade needed. Adams was years ahead of the marketing programs.

 

The DHY is a driving iron. Save $200 and get one.

Always loved Adams hybrids so I bought a 21 degree that had a white tie shaft and pitted it against my titleist 716 driving 3i steel and 20 degree xtd ti. Distance in the Dhy was slightly better, feel way better, control was no good for me. 716 stayed in the bag but all 3 collect dust now against my pxg 3i.

They are essentially a super-SGI iron, with bulge and roll. I use a 24* dHy as a "tweener" between my irons, and my first "real" hybrid (21* 909h). Great club.

 

Edit: I just bought another 24* from the used bin at Roger Dunn. I'll build it with a shaft to match the Adams A4 irons I just built. At $29 each, maybe I'll buy one for each of my iron sets (that would be a lot of dHy's)

I rotate one in and out of the bag with an XTD Ti hybrid from Adams, they're both crazy long, and easy to hit.

Love them......I had the og 18* in the bag since they came out. Just recently replaced with a udi 790 but still have the dhy and could go back to it anytime

I liked mine off the tee but struggled with it off the deck. Would usually catch the heel.

Still have my 24* in the bag. These are great clubs regardless of price, but they've been dirt cheap on ebay for a while. Great clubs for building a bag on a budget.

I have an 18* with a C-Taper in it and it's one of my favorite clubs to hit. I use it primarily from the tee, but can use it most anywhere. It's been in the bag for 4 years and it's not coming out any time soon!

As others have mentioned, grat budget build if you can find 'em.

 

Currently have the 21* with the original White Tie, and a 24* that I repurposed a Proforce V2 into (had bought it with a steel shaft that I wasn;t crazy about). Mustn't have paid more than 100$ combined for both.

 

Right now, the 24* gets more play because it's kicked out the 24* 4-iron from my MP-64's. Mostly used from the tee with occasional use from the grass, but overall the extra bit of distance and forgiveness helps.

 

The 21* DHY is in competition with my 21* M1 Rescue that I have a hard time kicking out, so only gets occasional use when I throw a 5W into the bag because it gaps the top end of the setup better than the M1.

So resurrected thread for sure, but I figure why start a new one.  

 

In 2023, anyone still playing one of these?  Any comparisons to more modern driving irons in feel/forgiveness/distance?  I was picking through my "box of random golf heads" in the garage to get a BST ad up to afford a Vessel Player 4 Pro bag, and I found one of these and kinda totally forgot about it.  Just wondered if anyone has recently compared them to newer stuff before I commit a shaft to it.

I have an 18* and a 21* in the bag. I actually had a 21*, sold it, and then rebought the 18* and 21* 2 years laters. 21* came alive when i put the same shaft as my iron set in it (modus 120x). So so good.

Not in the bag but it worked then and still works now. Just gonna find a spot for it (plays long imo) and pair it with a good shaft

Still have the 16* in the bag, definitely doesn’t get off the ground for too long but there’s nothing I have more confidence in needing 250 down the fairway.

These have bulge and roll (to mitigate gear effects), which most utility/driving irons don't.  Some say this is not needed, because the cg isn't far behind the face on most irons.  But it probably helps some on these.  Because of the weight plug on the back, the cg is probably farther behind the face that it might appear. 

 

I just wish these didn't have so much offset, which is why I prefer the Pro Mini hybrids from the same era.

This is actually kinda what I've been thinking about doing with a 23* one.  Especially if they play kinda hot would be a nice cheap bridge between the 6i and the 19* hybrid.

Have had a 9031 in out in the bag for years. Just a club that works for me.  Adams was leading the way on better shafts in otc equipment.   The 9031 came with a real Mitsubishi diamana and was a beast.  The later red models were leading the way on movable weights if i recal.  And saying that I might try and fine one.
