Mizuno JPX-850 Forged vs. Srixon Z545/Z565

I have been gaming the Mizuno JPX-850 Forged since 2014. I used to be able to hit the range 3 times a week and get a round in every weekend but my time to play/practice has significantly decreased to just playing a round on the weekends with no time to hit the range during the week. Although I love the JPX-850s, I'm thinking I may need even more forgiveness just based on the frequency I play nowadays. My iron play has been very inconsistent and has taken the biggest hit.

In terms of forgiveness, is there a significant difference between JPX-850s to either a Z545 or z565? These irons are the ones that jumped out to me during my initial brainstorming since I thought that it may provide that perfect combo of forged with increased forgiveness. If there are minimal differences between the two or any other models, then another option is to not spending any money and just putting my G10 irons back in my primary bag.

Also, since I play a lot less, there's no reason for me to buy a brand new set so I would just try to find a used set at a decent price.

Honestly, there isn't going to be a huge difference in forgiveness. The 565's are a nice iron though, so no reason not to at least demo them if you are itching for something new.

Otherwise, you could use your G10's in the long irons, and stick with the Mizuno's in the 7-PW or something. I think forgiveness is a little overrated in the short irons anyway.

the Mizuno forged are a touch less forgiving than the Srixon irons, but there really isn't that much in it. What's your miss? If its a horizontal miss (heel, toe) then a more forgiving club might help, if it's a vertical miss(fat, thin) then nothing will help.

The 565/545 will have a slightly hotter face and be more forgiving due to a bit larger profile (565 a touch larger than 545) and the v-sole has more help there too.

I would say due to the higher bounce on the Srixons you would notice a difference and the 565 would be my choice of those three for giving the most help.

Just played a round today with the G10’s in the bag and although I’m a club shorter than my JPX-850s, I hit them much better or at least they are more forgiving. I still can’t get over how fat the soles are but maybe it just works well for my swing. I guess the perfect iron for me is the look and feel of my Mizunos and the forgiveness of my G10s, but a thinner sole. Anyone have any recommendations?

JPX EZ Forged.

I got back and forth between my G25s and the 2013 JPX EZ Forged (the orange and black version.)

Though I still lust for the 565s I hit at a demo day earlier this year.

According to your signature, it looks like you pulled the trigger on the Srixon's. How are they working out for you? It's been nearly a year and I still haven't made a move since I have my good days and bad days with my 850Fs, which has got me thinking its my swing and not the irons.

I sure did. I got a great deal on a brand new closeout set when the 585s were released. I've played them for 6 months. They are absolutely fantastic. Just solid forgiving irons that feel great at impact. I got rid of the JPX EZ Forged. I kept the G25 for a backup set. I took a couple of G25s to the range one day just to see I missed them. Didn't miss them a lick.

That’s awesome. I’m back with the curiosity but being patient and constantly looking out for a good deal on a used set of z545s and z565s. But also expanded my choices to used 900 Hot Metals or 919 Hot Metals with the right shaft combo.
