Thanks - they're my own work. There's no stamping anywhere, each club is a different muscle design so I didn't see a need!

They're inspired by vintage clubs I own - I don't want to clutter this thread with a long story about grinding, but if there's enough interest I'll start a thread detailing the whole project.

nice job @AdamMH... still wondering if the "no stamping" = a sign you're still in the honeymoon period/ "getting to know you stage"

i.e. IMHO i'd still need a Lee Westwood-style sharpie, to quickly identify the iron!

I ended up getting fatigued with how neat/pretty the previous finishes were looking so I left the darkened halo of oxidation and am just letting the head rust more naturally now. Definitely prefer this.

My first set started as a 1-PW set of Titleist Tour Model Forged in sorta rough shape.  I filled the model and did a custom grind with a pre-worn leading edge, and generally just softened a few edges.  Shot in the bag only shows some of the irons, but I eventually did the entire 1-PW set.

 

Final finish was just a light fine scuff pad with some olive oil.  They have painted nicely since.

Second set was a set of old Macs that looked like they were lost in a bucket of water for 20 years.  Flaking chrome and some pitting.  I had this image of a Itabori style grind to them, but with a more normal sole grind.  Really just playing around in general.  I also built them with 3g increments in weight, and 1/4" difference in shafts lengths, with 5* loft gapping.

 

Left the finish a bit more rough on purpose.  They are VERY spinny, and were ripping the covers on the previous gen Kirkland balls.

I honestly think that irons could/should be built more like this at retail, and I think if it could be done all over again *now* that there would be a good chance something like this would supplant the current standard. 
 

Small question though if I may…3g increments would make quite a progressive set in terms of swingweight. I assume that was intentional? Personally I use much bigger weight gaps when I’m going 3/8” or 1/4”, and that is coming from someone that like progressive swingweighting. 1/4”/3g gaps would create some sledgehammer short irons unless I’m missing something.

Most irons are about 7g difference in head weight, with 1/2" shaft difference.  I chose 3g on on 1/4" because I do like a slightly progressive SW thru the set.  But it isn't much.  These are D3.0 in PW, then D2.8 9i, D2.6 8i etc.  I've found I can play anything from D1 to D5 comfortably, but D2 to D3 is sorta the sweet spot.

 

And if it helps ease the pain for Big Stu, I have multiple sets of Macs I've restored/rebuilt.  These were in awful condition, literally bought them for $1 per club out of a 5gal paint can sitting outside filled with water at a thrift store.  I could peal the chrome off with my finger nail.

That's what i'm curious about, because when you go shorter length gaps you have to go "bigger" weight gaps between clubs because they'll get progressively heavier otherwise. A bit of that makes sense for desirable progressive swingweighting, but you go smaller, and a LOT smaller at that. Maybe i'm missing something, but I have about 8-9g weight gaps and I go from D3 in the longer irons to about D6 in the wedges. If was using 3g gaps i'd be well into the "E" range at the bottom, so i'm just curious what's different there. Grips? Shaft balance points?

Long time lurker, first time caller.  Is Oughton's Golf still the go to for getting the chrome stripped off a set and down to the carbon steel, or is there another (maybe east coast) shop that people have been using?

Immensely impressive work. I've dabbled in club grinding and am no stranger to grinding in general and consider myself quite proficient in another non-golf metal-removal discipline. The control you've demonstrated here over shape and design is impressive!! I really hope you do a thread on the process of these and I'd be very curious what your grinding setup is.

Yep. I went ahead and removed the badges before I sent them off. Excited to see how they look when Doug is finished with them. I did find this old picture of a set that someone was selling on FB, and they looked nice IMO.
