Ultimate Classic Fairway and Hybrid???

So, I am trying to put together my dream classic bag, but I am stuck on what fairway and hybrid to go with!

 

Currently I have sorted a few slots, but please bare in mind I am born in the 1990s so these are clubs that I grew up with and that I lusted over!

 

Also bare in mind, I am a lefty, so I can only go with clubs that were available for us lefties!

 

So based on the below clubs and the era I am looking at, I had a shortlist of the following fairways:

Titleist PT

Taylormade R7 TP

 

Hybrid shortlist is:

Sonatec

Something Adams tour

 

The current bag looks like;

Driver- Titleist 905R

Fairway- ????

Hybrid- ????

Irons- Adams MB2

Wedges- Cleveland RTG

Putter- Byron Morgan 006

 

I am pretty certain I must be forgetting some other classic hybrids and fairways from this era

 

Think Vijay being worlds number one, Ernie Els just having the best swing ever, Luke Donald not missing a putt and Retief Goosen winning the US Open

My club pro growing up played a 16* with x100 and used to smoke that thing. Really reliable tournament club for him too

 

I got a burner rescue tp but it was only so so.

Nike T40 Tour Fairway. Very similiar to the Titleist 970.

Definitely the V Steel, but also shout out to the Titleist 975F, 980f and 904F.

 

Something to consider is that hybrids weren't really prominent until 2004 when Todd Hamilton won The Open; so a 5 wood or a 2 iron!

Just smacked around a Titleist 909 fairway and hybrid the other day with the UST V2 black and yellow shaft. So solid.

Surly the Ping G2 or 5 driver has to be in there.

 

Callaway X 3 wood or Steelhead plus - nothing came close back then.

 

Callaway X14 irons

 

Vokey 200 series wedges - best he ever made.

Geez... I've been gaming the MB2s since the day they came out and now I come to find out that they are considered "classic" *le sigh

Maybe I should class those as ‘future classics’ to be fair, they haven’t been around long and like you I’ve had my set since they came out. I just love them so much that I don’t want to get rid!!!

Don't sleep on the Cleveland Launcher series, especially TI or comp. The Adams BTY might be a nice choice to match your irons.

 

Hybrids, they didn't make a Rescue Mid TP in left hand. They did make the Dual TP though which was only ok. Again, have to go Idea Pro to match the irons.

They did, but they seem to be quite hard to find any in a decent condition these days!

Yes they did - but only in 3/5/7 I believe, we missed out on the 4 woods!

They did, but they seem to be quite hard to find any in a decent condition these days!

VERY tough to find, either lefties are hoarders (maybe) or most don't bother with listing for resale in the UK as it isn't worth the hassle. If only 10 - 12% of golfers are left handed, it would be safe to assume there aren't many Golf WRXer's that are interested in buying and selling older stuff just to try it out.

 

I've wasted £'s over the years to try what I never could, but there aren't many like us in the UK. I've had a settled bag for a couple of years now, but for the previous 5/6 I was trying equipment that was anything from 5-15 years old that I couldn't when I was younger.

 

Wouldn't change a thing though!

i have R9 TP 3 and 4 wood in my retro bag along w/ TM Superfast TP tour issue long hosel driver w/ my Rac MB TP blades and this set up rivals all the combos i have today

909f2 fairway or 07 Burner TP

Adams pro black 9031 hybrid

R9 tour issue (B series) irons

 

Still game the 909f2 everynow and again and have the super version of the hybrids.

 

Those irons are as good as anything put out today

As soon as I read the thread title my thoughts were Titleist PT for the 3 wood and then Titleist 503H for the hybrid.
