Ultimate Classic Fairway and Hybrid???

I was born in the mid-90s myself and must say all of those clubs you listed were definitely ones I wanted at one time or another! Golf nostalgia is a wonderful thing.

 

For comparison's sake, here's my dream set from that era:

 

Driver: TaylorMade R7 SuperQuad TP (or PING G10)

3 Wood: Titleist 906F2

2 Hybrid: Nickent 3DX

3 Iron - PW: TaylorMade rac MB TP

52* and 58*: Titleist Vokey Oil Can

Putter: Odyssey 2-Ball

I still game Cleveland launcher 20 deg hybrid that I reshafted with a phenom. The original fit on red by Fujikura was awesome but eventually lost its kick. Mizuno T-zoid 3 wood got a blueboard stuck in it and it’s like a hammer.

I’m glad you like! I love finding old setups that you just go phhhwwwoorrrrrr at! I am a lefty which is a shame because it limits my choices, but I am currently thinking about building the dream right hand bag! I’ve seen a few sets of RAC TPs flying around and I am so tempted! Even though I would never be able to hit them! Match those with an R510TP and you have yourself a winner! But yes I reminisce quite a lot to the early 2000s!

I love the concept of a bag of all the kit you dreamt about as a kid........which means I've been going down this rabbit hole for a while now having grown up playing in the 90's/2000's and have ended up with way more than just the one bag!! The bonus of being a 90's/2000's bag is that it's basically still relevant equipment now and not completely out of date.

 

Given your driver and recent hybrid purchase I'd suggest you go down the Titleist route for the 3 wood with the obvious choices being 906F2 or 906F4 (I'd lean towards the 906F4 15.5 degree) which would match the 905R nicely or maybe a slightly older 904F. The PT is an absolute classic (I have multiple of them...) but given you've got a 460cc driver in the bag the head will look like A dot so I think the slightly newer models would work better.

 

I own a R7 TP 15 degree and V-Steel 16.5/18/21 (15 looks slightly toe-ed in to me so it was sold...) and they are all superb but personally think the Titleist would suit the bag you have better. 906F2/4 has slightly more feel but probably isn't quite as long as the Taylormade options. Stick an old Grafalloy Prolite, EI-70 or Proforce Gold in them and you'll be sweet. I've just recently rediscovered the EI-70 and I'm smitten.

 

My witb thread is showing a few of the older sticks I own with more to follow once I get around to it. Got a full older Titleist bag and nearly full Nike bag I'm pretty pleased about coming together, kind of like older Tiger bags...nearly.

Yes! I posted my original recommendation before reading through the entire thread, so I missed the fact you had already landed on the 585H. You have chosen wisely, my friend. I'm not kidding when I say I have tried nearly all hybrids over the years--at least the ones worth trying--and I can say without reservation that the 585H is the best. A lot of people talk about feel on this website, myself included. And as far as that goes the 585H is second to none. It feels just as good as a Sonartec MD or anything else that has come before or since. But what doesn't get talked about nearly enough is how a club looks at address and the confidence that look inspires. And that is where the 585H really outshines the competition. From my perspective there is no other club, hybrid or otherwise, whose look inspires more confidence at address. As a matter of fact I recently sold off or gave away most of my classic hybrids and only kept 3. A 17 degree Sonartec MD, to be used at Bandon. A 19 degree Sonartec HB001 for my backup bag. And my beloved 19 degree 585H, which is never leaving my main bag.

So, I am trying to put together my dream classic bag, but I am stuck on what fairway and hybrid to go with!

 

Currently I have sorted a few slots, but please bare in mind I am born in the 1990s so these are clubs that I grew up with and that I lusted over!

 

Also bare in mind, I am a lefty, so I can only go with clubs that were available for us lefties!

 

So based on the below clubs and the era I am looking at, I had a shortlist of the following fairways:

Titleist PT

Taylormade R7 TP

 

Hybrid shortlist is:

Sonatec

Something Adams tour

 

The current bag looks like;

Fairway- ????

Hybrid- ????

I am pretty certain I must be forgetting some other classic hybrids and fairways from this era

Geez... I've been gaming the MB2s since the day they came out and now I come to find out that they are considered "classic" *le sigh

Maybe I should class those as ‘future classics’ to be fair, they haven’t been around long and like you I’ve had my set since they came out. I just love them so much that I don’t want to get rid!!!
