Did Honma just take over PXG's market

Paige Spiranac was making fun of people getting interested right now in Onma while just some months ago she was promoting PXG :D

Has she even made a cut on the Symetra Tour? I went down to last place ($324) on the Symetra and did not see her name.

All talk and no game compared to her LPGA/Symetra peers.

cause if it's one thing people follow paige spiranac for, it's her golf game ...

PS makin bank.

Prolly got like 4 sets of PXGs in the geerage and then Honma sent her a set of the 18k gold line "on spec" for her to hit some shots with them on IG ; )

For me, I gotta say no. Then again, like 99%+ of golfers I'm not in the market for either of those brands.

Did you read the post above yours ? That quote is for Honma's current irons - pretty much right in line with the other majors.

The new Honma drivers are $599. Pricey ? A little bit but not much more than TM, Cally, Titleist, etc.

Paige is doing what she needs to do which is staying relevant. No knock on her but even she knows she does not have the level of game to go out on the tour circuit. Nothing wrong with that. She offers a different perspective which is good.

I think that my question is really the fact that PXG is still pretty new a company and Honma has been more of an Asian targeted Market because of where they are centrally located. Not to compare the quality of each but more the exposure that each one gets. Yes there are players who are using PxG but none really standing out as much. I would think Pxg would go after one of the big guns like a Keopka or even one of the guys from the Taylormade stable of players. That would boost exposure even more.

Here's the issue from my POV.

PXG irons have been the most visible and they are around what, $300 per club ? Twice what a top of the line set would be for any of the "majors". Forget it.

Drivers ? I had NO idea about PXG drivers simply because I didn't (and still don't) know of a shop that carries them. Not being able to demo them and not even seeing them in stores, in order to know how much they cost (not that I'd buy a driver "blind" anyway but), takes them completely OFF my radar no matter who's playing them on Tour.

So I looked on the PXG site just now and am surprised to find the driver at $575 - right in the ballpark. STILL wouldn't consider buying "on the blind" but NOW at least I know they're reasonably priced.

Honma is just now showing up on Joe Average's radar and they have 2 sets on the shelves right now that are right in the ballpark of all the other majors, about $1200. Who knew ?

Last Summer I saw the "World" irons at Edwin Watts and found out that they have a reasonably priced set of irons. Who knew ?

Wasn't crazy about them in a very short trial but at least now I knew they were around. Being in the sport for quite a while I did know about the ridiculously expensive Honma clubs from the mid 90s that brought out a gasp when I saw the prices. So why would I even take a closer look and even try them last Summer ? It was an "accident".

Honma drivers showed up about 6 weeks ago when PGATSS, all of a sudden, had dozens of older "World" drivers on the racks at $199; clearly a closeout deal.

So until last Summer, I had no idea they were even around OR in a normal price range. No pros using them and none of them around (at least not that I saw).

NOW Rose wins. Before his win I saw they drivers on the Demo rack. Didn't even pick it up. NOW, after his win, I notice the Honma driver on the rack again and this time try it. NOW I find out it's priced in the ballpark and it performs. NOW it's on my radar.

This is how it works :dntknw:

Exactly to my point. Not that Pxg does not run Ads during a tournament but, Honma made a bigger splash just with JR’s win than PXG running Ads all day. I remember working at the golf shop in the mid 90’s and we had a Honma Rack with Irons in the $2000 price range. It was out there for the visiting tourist that would often drop by. If you watch the tournaments from across the pond especially those on Asian soil, you will see the brand more. As for now, I don’t care for either one. Just interesting how PXG doesn’t throw money at DJ or Rahm, or others. To Honma’s advantage, the prez of Honma was running Taylormade for the longest time and grew close to JR. I’m also betting that helped land him.
