Summer Memberships - Palm Beach County

Breakers West is accepting summer members at the moment. $1750 + tax, $30 cart fee, $45 or $50 guest fee. You can play Ocean Course on Mondays and during aeration for the same price. I think we're going to pull the trigger on it as not many other places are offering summer memberships this year, and it's 5 minutes from the house and on the way to / from work. Wife will use the pool a bunch with the baby as well. I'm a hacker slowly getting back into the game, so if anyone else joins let me know and we'll link up.

Doesn't say anything about cart fees, but I had a rate sheet a while ago and they were pretty high. Seems like they've made membership cheaper by raising cart fees or something. I've been hearing a lot of negative things about PGA through the pandemic  - basically that it doesn't feel like a private club because it isn't really. A lot of tee times from hotel guests making it harder to get out, amenities crowded, etc. Still, it's 5 courses and unlimited balls on the range. There's also the south florida golf pass for 55 which lets you play each course at PGA once. For anyone who doesn't know: https://www.sfpgagolf.com/participating-facilities/

 

I've heard another rumor that Bear Lakes might be doing one, should find out today if that's true.

Last I heard (about a week ago), Bear Lakes was still deciding on whether or not to do a summer membership. I wouldn't hold my breath. Looks like PGA might be the only option.

I got something in the mail from the Falls Club. They are doing a summer membership.

Bear Lakes is not doing a summer membership, can confirm first-hand. Also heard one of the courses is re-doing greens.

Quail Ridge by far has the best summer deal. Ive done it for the past 3 years. Dues are about $2500 plus $20 for cart. The course and practice area conditions are about tour level.

Hi.  I know it is early but has anyone heard of plans for these clubs to offer summer memberships in 2022?  Just playing back the ones on the list above with my assumptions: 

• PGA National - likely to offer again in 2022 
• Breakers West - closed for renovations? 
• Ironhorse Preserve - closed for renovations? 
• Eastpoint - has member waiting list so may not offer again? 
• Turtle Creek? 
• Mayacoo? 
• Bear Lakes? 
• Banyan Cay? 
• Jonathan's Landing? 
• Frenchmen's? 

It seems like membership costs are up across the board and many of the better clubs have waiting lists for year-round/ in-season membership.  I wonder what that means for the summer membership market?

PGA National offering a summer preview membership, sounds like they’ll have the details available in the next couple of weeks.

PGA just published their summer membership.  $7k for family and $6.7k for individual.  This is a huge increase over last year's $4k price.  It also seems like this has been repositioned from 'join for the summer' to 'experience PGA during the summer as a preview, then join as a full member'.  The $7k is somehow used as a credit towards the annual membership, if the individual pursues that route.

Can confirm that on PGA. Big increase. The Falls Club is doing one as well. 6 Spots left, and runs just under $5K. Still waiting to hear on others. Making last summer at Breakers West seem like out of this world good value.

it seems early on here that most of these clubs are trying to make the summer memberships out of reach for most. I was at Delray Dunes past 3yrs  was told they are voting on having it this year

 

Quail Ridge is great option but do not know what the price plan is as of yet

 

Lost City (old Atlantis) is $3500.00 course was re done last year so imagine the maintenance schedule will be rather extensive on greens

Turtle creek is doing a summer membership, 4K from mid May to mid October, but is closed for two weeks in June, 10 days in august and about 4 in September.

- Mayacoo not offering summer as they are at capacity. 
- Wanderers will not be offering.

If you're referring to the old WPB muni off of Forest Hill Blvd ... it won't be open until approximately Nov/Dec with a Grand Opening scheduled for February 2023.

 

I believe the plan is to make it an upscale public course, similar to Bethpage or Torrey Pines, where locals get a preferred rate and out of state'rs get a price hike. 

 

My buddy is the super there, so that info is from him.

those some big comparisons... lots of work to get it worthy of that name, especially for a course in the middle of town.  It would be awesome if they made it something special though!

On Friday I played at Boca Lago Golf and Country Club at a prospective member. I remember the membership director saying they also offer summer memberships.

I think this is the last summer the course will be open. The course is on leased land and the owner sold it to Toll Brothers Builders.

My course - Lost City in Atlantis - is having a summer membership that is limited to 50 people. $5,000 for the summer (carts included). We have 3 9s so despite the summer maintenance schedule we always have a full 18 holes open and don't have to close for a few weeks in the summer like most courses do.

 

If anyone wants the full information feel free to message me. I would guess there are only 10-15 spots left as not many clubs offer summer memberships anymore.

 

The days of cheap summer memberships are over. I did a summer membership at mayacoo in 2018 for around $1,100. Breakers West in 2019 and 2020 for $1,250. Cheap golf in South Florida is unfortunately a thing of the past.

Sorry to bring back an old post. What did you think of Boca Lago? I am potentially headed out there for a prospective member round as well but won't waste my time if it is terrible.

Ive played there twice and all 27 holes. All three 9 hole courses ok layouts but very beat up. Also has a large membership and the ones I played with were not happy with how the club is being operated. the clubhouse is being redone. It is very expensive and also has a food and beverage fee which was high.

Thanks for the feedback. Large membership is a bit concerning, but from what I have been shared the pricing is very attractive - as an "executive Member" at least, and F&B minimum was only like $80/month which, while not nothing, seems doable.

 

Did you end up finding somewhere else around here to join?

I believe I still have the membership packet if you want me to look anything up? I've been a member at Wellington National for a year now. Not only am I down on the place quite a few others are too.I believe to have a post here from a few months ago about how bad things are at Wellington National. I was told this morning when I was there that about 10 people resigned before the start of our new membership year that starts soon. The place is a "s*** show"
