The 60's and 70's song appreciation thread (obscurity welcome)

Saturday morning. Cold. Rainy. WRX. Coffee. Jams. Let's rock...

One of my all time favs from my favorite band:

Led Zeppelin, When The Levee Breaks. Love Bonhams rhythm and the harmonica on this one.

Peter Frampton's touring for the last time this year due to a degenerative muscle disease. Saw him a few years back. Such an awesome guitarist and person.

Grab A Chicken (Put It Back). Just a fun, rock'n song.

What are some of your favorites?

Friend, you dug deep here. I never knew the band or name of Brother Louie, but you know I knew the song.

Stories one hit wonder. Rod Stewart wanna be. Remember an interview with lead singer who said they needed another hit cause they were $600+K in debt. Never happened. HeadEast had some great stuff, just were an god awful band live. Think their live mixer was nicknamed SuperToneDeafBoy.

by Lynyrd Skynyrd. As someone who grew up in the 90s, I'm not ashamed to admit that my appreciation for it came from Happy Gilmore.

Did someone mention Rod Stewart? Beginning with Jeff Beck's "Truth" album, through the various solo/Faces recordings, RS and company was as good as it gets. Could rock with anyone, spin a ballad. A couple that never get old:

Something a bit more obscure (maybe for some). Always appreciated some organ in my late 60's music.

A bit of R & R trivia history. Terry Reid turned down Jimmy Page to be the lead singer in a new band he was putting together (post Yardbirds). Instead, he recommended that Page should consider an unknown singer for the gig. Robert Plant.

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

Though I always liked The Wreck, only in recent years have I matured to appreciate the instruments power in telling the story. I turn up the volume more these days to feel the drums and guitar deliver the drama. The legend lives on...

A good story tune... I possibly first heard on my way to the corner store for a bottle of red pop and a Bun.

Great post ( song) Ghoul31

Loved the Wreck. And growing up in Michigan, spending time on the lakes (great and inland) made me appreciate it even more.

could you even imagine the stones it took riding out in the middle of Superior??!!!!!!!!!

This thread restores my faith in humanity ; )

My father in law was a studio guy for them in the late 60s. So, of course I ask, “What was he like?” He answered, “Never met him, I just had to read the notes, and I can’t remember the song either.” Oh well, so much for touching greatness.

My favorite golf snack in 1966, Spanish peanuts, Bun candy bar, and a Nehi grape.

Was in Ft. Knox, when Sylvias Mother came out. Reminded me of calling home.

We just went to Huck's General Store in Blue Ridge, GA yesterday. My dad bought all their Bun bars, Beemans, and Black Jack chewing gum.

Tom Petty: Here Comes My Girl... from Damn The Torpedoes (1979).

I was 16 and recently transplanted from Orlando to rural Indiana. Tom Petty is for everyone, everywhere.

Yeah, I know we've all heard it but I'm gonna plant it right here cause I wanna... and because it always reminds me of my beautiful wife.

Saw these live, fabulous...

Zeppelin in the late 60's I was 8 rows back in Buffalo NY

Saw James gang play this in the late 60's

Ten Years After fabulous guitar

Saw the Who live in North Tonawanda NY @ Melody Fair late 60's still had Keith Moon. He would bounce drumsticks off the drums and into the audience. I was 6 rows back, and they really did destroy their equipment at the end of the show. Tough to watch as i was in a band too, nice strat & stuff... https://www.youtube....h?v=uswXI4fDYrM

Saw the original Chicago 5 times with Terry Kath

Ok since you said obscurity welcome, here's a 9 minute clip of some friends of mine. Long running band, several members. I got to meet and know many in 1971 as a friend of mine is a cousin of Richie Furay, the band is Poco. Originally the band had Randy Meisner and Jim Messina as well. When we hung out with them I met Timmy Schmidt too who took the place of Randy. Then later Timmy went on to replace Randy in the Eagles. If you listen to the harmony you can hear early Eagles type harmony, sorry only audio, no video. Also Jim Messina sings here as well. And you can hear Timmy Schmidt singing the first song, it's a medly of songs, anyway, all terrific people.
