I went to Nevada Bob's recently and had my clubs bent and there were zero issues and the whole set only cost $30. This was in Madison though.

Do you have loads of experience bending irons? If yes, then it makes sense. If no, I don't see how you doing it is any safer than someone with experience.

Stop being so logical. ; )

Although I never let anyone touch mine since I almost let an assistant Pro at Ohio state golf course bend one of my wedges.

Dipshit put the bending bar absolutely at the top of the hosel almost hitting the ferrule. I’m like whoa there buddy!! What are you doing? He looked at me cluelessly. I’m like, dude....put that thing as low on the hosel as you can. You want the bend as close to the head as possible. He started to argue and I just politely asked for my club back. I was previously in the business and professionally trained. No point to fight with him and burn bridges.

Was wondering if anyone in the Milwaukee or SE Wisconsin area might have a loft/lie machine with bending bar and be willing to let me borrow it for a few hours? I of course would pay for the use, let me know as I dont want to take my clubs to local retailer as I wouldnt trust them do touch my clubs.

Go to Golf Galaxy at Southridge. Ask for Chris. He's a Maltby-certified fitter and club builder.

If you can’t find some who personally owns one then I would try to go to your local golf shop and ask to bend your own irons. Of course you would pay their fee which should only be $30-$50 As long as you know what you’re doing and you WONT damage their machine I don’t see any problem with this request. To be honest I would rather have the customer bend his own irons (IF he knows what he is doing) because then the liability is all on them. Also there’s a value in seeing the specs with your own eye that gives you that extra bit of mental confidence.

Plan B: if they won’t let you bend yourself than go in on a slow day and ask if you can observe them or hit each club after they have been bent. Yes you will be THAT customer who is a pain in the arse but at least you will accomplish your mission. Personally I hate when someone is staring me down while I am bending a club but I don’t mind when they address the club after bending or hit it in the launch monitor. The other benefit here is that fine tune adjust ments can be done on the spot and you get instant confirmation of the loft lie change.

Couldnt agree more. I did this often when i was a golf professional down in sarasota. We would let the shop owner and his wife come out and play and practice in return for using his equipment.

Most shop owners would love to make a few $ for doing nothing!

Thanks for the ideas and other options. I am very experienced with bending clubs, certified builder back in the day and have bent and built more clubs than most of the big box store guys combined. I've tried the local stores and they look at me funny when I ask to bend my own, then tell me NO.

I will check with Chris at GG near southridge, might be an option. If anyone else has an idea, please let me know. Cash for doing nothing, Winning!

Right? Kinda disappointed in the Wisconsin crowd that no one has a loft lie machine. I’ve been out there and they are seriously golf crazy.

Do you know if Denny made it over to the Southridge store? I always had luck with him working on my clubs. I am not familiar with Chris, but the times I have been in the store since they moved to Southridge have left me unimpressed with their golf department staff.

My experience is a bit different. Everyone at Southridge appears new and young. Chris is one of the young clubmakers, but he's a Maltby-certified fitter and clubmaker. He fit me into my new Maltby TS-2 irons and he did a great job for me.

I have not seen Denny at Southridge and his reputation is stellar. Henry Fink is over at Brookfield and I think he's really good. I'm kind of dismayed they don't let Mark Voeller give lessons out of Brookfield because of the GolfTec there. Mark is a good teaching pro, and when I see him there, he's in the clubmaking area. Complete waste...

Hey Chris here, Denny is most at the Brookfield store now. He comes in only on Tuesdays to the Southridge location but we aren't sure how much longer he's going to be doing that because he isn't thrilled about the whole Dick's/GG combo with all the non-golfers messing around on our side.

I'm off today and tomorrow. I'm in from 8 to 2:30 on Thursday, we open at 9.

I try to do my best given what we have there. In terms of fitting we aren't going to be close to the level of Club Champion in Brookfield but that's simply because we don't have all of the head and shaft options. In terms of club building, as Games said above, I am Maltby/Golfworks certified and I was also learning under Denny. I completely understand if you don't feel comfortable with me working on the clubs. Again Denny is at Southridge today but he's mostly at Brookfield.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.
