Mid Short iron hybrid replacements

Okay, I'm sh@nking irons, and scared to death of 6- pw. But 'fearless' with any hosel less clubs. Not much out there after 6h, what to do? I'm about 100 mph driver, 10 index, not looking for SGI offset. I've got tour edge 3-5H so far. When are the major club makers, gonna do a full set of hybrids? Thanks

Many of the Integra clone hybrids go well past 40 degrees. If you're interested in trying single length, the Pinhawk hybrids go to a 55 degree SW. The Cleveland Launcher HB irons do have hosels, but otherwise they all have hybrid-like heads. About the best I can offer.

Bridgestone B Tour JGR 1s have really fat soles--not quite hybrids, but close. Funky lofting, but nice, forged clubs.

For what it's worth, I went through a miserable stretch last year with balls going right, then further right, then further. Awful. Had to go back to a really good teacher this winter, who has me keeping my weight back and not lunging forward---had gotten into some terrible habits. Not fully over them yet, but working at it and some real golf shots now showing up on occasion, even with my irons (i have hybrids up to 6, then the Bridgestones).

Getting hybrids in place of your short irons will only exacerbate the issue especially if it’s a swing direction issue. Look at swing direction, open clubface, ball position and early extension. Possibly use the money for lessons.

Have you looked into the Callaway Rogue X? They have hybrids down to the 8 and I believe also the new Big Bertha have the same. My son has the Rogue X down to a 7 and they’re super long and launch a mile.

Cleveland’s play like a hybrid through the set, but starting at the 7 on down, look more iron like. I played a set all way to SW and really liked them but the hoe took over. Kinda miss them to be honest other than the offset in the 4-6.

Good luck to you. I had the shanks last year for about a month, so I feel your pain. Have you gone to a pro to see if you can work out the swing issues? I'm not sure that an equipment change is gonna solve the problem.

 

Edit: What I was thinking but didn't say clearly...while a hybrid design might give you more forgiveness on heel side hits, results are still gonna be iffy regardless of the club.

Lots of good drills out there to get you out of the shanks. At some point, it is largely mental. Cannot play golf with the shanks and getting equipment to work around it is not the answer. Try the gate drill or the 2x4 drill. Many are best done with no ball. Too many guys try to cure shanks with more full swings and just add to the frustration and mess themselves up even more.

 

Smooth tempo-based pitches are another nice way to restore swing path. If you can’t hit a chip or pitch crisply, you won’t do it with a full swing. Good way to get the feel back. Good luck. You can get out of it.
