Golf shed

I'm in the process of buying a new home and would like to build a small golf shed in the backyard to put a hitting net and possibly simulator into. Anyone have any pics of their set up like this?

Small? Assuming you mean being inside the shed to hit shots, it won’t be very small. Because most yard barns are based on a wall height of 8’ (standard sheet of plywood/siding/whatever) and you likely need a ceiling of 10’ for a full swing, you’re probably looking at something custom. I have a 12X16 in my back yard, far to small/short to hit shots in. I’d like to see pics of setups, too.

I would think 10-12 feet height would still be too low for anything more than half wedges.

I am kind of curious to this as well. But I would imagine that 10' high would be plenty high with a net.

Take a look at Golf Simulator Forum. Plenty of build pics in there. And it wont be small

Plenty of room at 11 feet tall for the room. If you plan on having others over to play, this will impact your width and depth (along with the simulator you choose). I wouldn’t go much less than 15 feet wide and 20 feet deep.

I’d have 20x20 with 12’ high ceilings as my base size. Can get away with 10’ but most will feel claustrophobic and I’d want room to hang a projector etc.

Some advice, tell the wife it will be small. Then oopsy coffee is spilled on the blueprints and it doubles in size! ;)

 

Also (just had a serious idea), you could add a small fold up door and put the next outside to save room . Hit the balls out of the door, this would save room!

Go look at Mark Crossfields old setup in his 3-5 year old videos . Or Chris Ryan. A lot of YouTubers have that setup.

Advice I give anyone building any structure. Build it twice as big as you think. And in the end. It won’t be big enough.

 

Usually centered around car collections in my case. But it’s still applies. My brother in law listened to me on this and built a two story garage looking shed for golf at his house. Simulator down stairs and putting green upstairs with tv fridge etc. he has a kid who’s now playing D1 golf. So it was/is used quite a lot on the winter time. And that’s in NC. If I lived in the snow belt I’d have a virtual training facility . Why not ? How many times do you plan to live? Much cheaper to build now vs add on later.

I agree with everyone else. Those ads showing "fun for the whole family" in a living room are a complete fantasy. A credible facility would be no less than 14 x 14 x 11(h). You see them stuck in garage bays all the time, but the user ends up hitting into one side of the screen.

This sounds about right, maybe even a tad longer.

 

I have a 2.5 car garage so I fit mine into a 20x10 area with 9.5' ceilings. I do wish I had more room in all 3 directions. Length to capture more ball flight and film DTL while still having proper distances to my flightscope, width to fit a face on camera and putting, height to have a little extra room for error and would need need it anyway if I was getting more ball flight. If there is plans for a sim and you are going to use radar you'll want to go as big as you can. Even a camera based one will need more room than you think. More of a small barn than a shed for sure.
