913 D3 vs TS3 driver

I don’t swing the 460 cc heads well. The ts3 line didn’t work for me. I have played all the 910, 913, 915, and 917 d3, fd, f3, etc heads. I am just staying put and hoping Titleist brings us some good smaller heads in the future lines.

my best drives are probably most often with the 13.5 f3 anyway

TS3 is absurdly good.

Ive tried to knock it from the bag for a year now, and I’ve bought and sold a G400LST, G410+ and LST, F9, Rogue SZ, M3, and a TS2.

the TS2 was hands down the closest to knocking it out (a tad more forgiving, about same distance, but worse on my left miss and higher launch window)

Id hit the 913-917 line and had the same gripes as most: the D2 spins too much and isn’t long, and the D3 had a tiny sweet spot and was a spray machine on even mediocre swings.

TS3 is the best blend of low spin with high forgiveness and can be adjusted to my preferred fade bias. It’s also the best looking driver available, free of distractions etc.

Call me a Titleist fan boy if you want, but know I built my bag AROUND the TS3...

I played a 909 D3 for 4 years and then the 913 D3, both with Whiteboard 73x shafts, which stayed in my bag until last year. I kept trying to find something better but couldn’t. Every new Titleist model I would test out during a demo day with my shaft and go head to head against my 913. When I heard about the new TS line I was super excited thinking Titleist finally caught up. I bought one without texting and was highly disappointed. Dumped it after a couple months in favor of a Mizzy ST-190G with an Atmos 60x. I love the look, feel, sound and performance but I’m not hitting as many fairways. I’m strongly considering going back to my trusty 913 again this year.

TS3 was night and day better for me than the 913D3 I had in play. Switched from that to an Epic for a while and that’s why showed me the 913 was dated, as I would occasionally put it back into play. If I absolutely flushed the 913 it could keep up with Epic but it was most shots that it showed its age. Felt great though. Switched to a TS3 from the Epic and don’t feel like I gave anything up, on good or less than good shots. Feel like I hit more consistently than epic too.

I was wondering if anyone could comment on driver manufacturing consistency. When I was reading about drivers I read that some retail drivers have hotter faces than other. It was recommended by some people to make sure you purchase the driver you demo. If you went back to the rack to get a new driver with the same specs and shafts it might perform differently. Any truth to this? Could this be why some people have more success with a driver than others (I know other factors come into play as well for drivers fitting particular swings).

IMO the TS2/TS3 are the best Titleist drivers they have brought out in a long, long time. Are the significantly better than drivers of ~5 years ago? Maybe, maybe not. Gains are marginal. However, if you're looking for a nice, solid driver you can be in for another 5 years and not be tempted to poke your head back in the marketplace, then you can't go wrong with the TS range. Classic looks, classic feel, good performance, there's really nothing not to like about them.

@tgoodspe1991 agreed. I just got into the ts woods and they have been really fantastic. I played 975d, 913, 915 and now ts. Loved the 975 and 913. The ts models just feel and look very classic. In between all of those models I played Bridgestone, Callaway GBB, F8+. Very happy with my current set up.

Still gaming a 913 D2 here. Went for a fitting before the TS series was out. I didn't like the 915, and was iffy on the 917. To the pro's credit, he (quietly) told me that the 913 was a better fit, and we spent most of the session figuring out what shafts might work. I can neither confirm nor deny that I slipped him a little green before I left...

I had exactly same experience a few months ago, decided it was probably time to upgrade my 910 D3 so went to get a fitted at a local custom fit place

I tried the TS, Ping, Taylormade with different shaft & head settings. None of them beat the 910 by more than a couple of yards, some I lost distance (spin issues as caveated below). The guy fitting me was really good about it and didn't push any products, agreeing that the 910 was a good fit

I honestly don't believe in the last ten years ball speed has changed that much with new drivers, I'll probably not change now until the club starts wearing out.

I will add a caveat that I am a low spin player and most drivers over the last few years have tried to reduce spin which doesn't help me

Here's my take on Titleist drivers:

Titleist has made AWESOME drivers since the 975/905....for the right delivery. If you're in that 170+MPH ball speed category, and you generally hit it out of the middle, Titleist drivers have ALWAYS been a great choice. They look fantastic, they sound great, they're quite workable and they absolutely do not spin 'too much' - with that delivery. Hence, they've always gotten good play on tour. Titleist has been happy being a niche company in the club world, knowing full well that they own the ball market and sell the odd wedge too. Simply put, they've never targeted a driver at the mid-speed amatuer, even if their marketing has tried to tell you otherwise. They pretty much ignored that huge segment that is the real retail market.

Fast forward to 2018 where they, in my opinion, designed their first driver ever to compete with the TM's, Callaway's, PING's and so on. In taking so long, they've come out with a driver that still looks great, sounds great, feels great, still appeals to their traditionalists and absolutely competes with the heavy hitters in the driver category by being a great driver for pretty much all skill levels. I believe the caveat to this may be a departure from their roots of being for 'better players only', and that may me the crux of the new Titleist marketing strategy. The evidence of this is in the fact that they have 4 drivers on the market, more than any other OEM (how's that for a flip on a company that been staunch on a 2 driver line up since 2009), and they have 7 iron sets + the driving irons in their current line up. That said, I'm not worried about it because I still get a driver that doesn't have all that junk on the crown and still gets out there when you miss it a little. They will still carry the Titleist stigma for a while, but this is the first step in moving away from that perception. Mizuno is doing a great gob in burning down old stigma's about their brand while retaining their traditional customer base and I believe this is where Titleist took their cue.

Circling back to the OP's point of 913 vs. TS, I still have a 910 that I can absolutely murder. I don't think TS is necessarily made for us on WRX. Generally speaking, your WRX nut is generally just a higher skilled player and looks for different attributes in a driver. TS will be a huge improvement over previous iterations of the 91X line for the masses at retail.

I’m still playing my 913D3 I’ve had since new.  Still my favorite driver I’ve ever had and performs just as good today as it did when I got it.  Actually, last round I played I probably had one of my longest drives ever with it....just crushed it for me and was on a spot on a hole I’ve never been at for my second shot (though been there for my third shot multiple times....).  I keep looking for it to give me a reason to replace it and it just hasn’t.

I did just pick up a TS2 hybrid and will say I like the new design aesthetic a lot, very nice looking line.

This was a great club for those who strike the ball squarely. I know a lot of them still floating around—my league partner still plays close to scratch with one—and had great results with it myself. Still commands good money in the used market.
