Who uses only 1 type of ball for a season?

larciel

Recommended Posts

Sitting on 30+ dozens of different kinds of golf balls, I was going to use them all before buying new ones.. but recently, I've been able to tell significant difference when hitting around green... and I became very confident with one ... Snell MTB-X.

I was trying out a different ball and chip-shot was horrible.

So I'm thinking of unloading ALL of my golf balls and order the mtb-x for this season. Since this is WRX, I wanted to know how many of you have similar or different opinions.

Go get some birdies!

We don't have a "golf season" here in the Sweet Sunny South so my ball using and trying doesn't really have any cyclic schedule.

I stick with one type for anywhere from a few months up to a couple of years. But from time to time I will try something different for a couple of rounds. It's pretty hard for one fo the "something different" balls to be so impressive I change, though.

I chose 2-3 balls assuming the OP was talking about brand. I usually play low compression surlyn balls and will play the Softfli, Supersoft, DT Trusoft, and Srixon Soft which are the same type of ball. I do periodically try a urethane ball and have a found TP5 which is great on approach shots even for my 16 handicap swing.

Pro V1X.

I might try another ball (like TP5X) the first couple of weeks of the season, but always come back to V1X. I just stock up when the buy 3, get 4th free promo takes place - at that $36 a dozen the price is good enough for me. It is just the most consistent ball for me - distance, spin and feel. Twice I did Titleist demo days over the last two years and the V1X was the ball they suggested based on my low ball flight and need for a little extra spin.

I used to be one of those guys who tried everything and drove myself nuts and it would be the middle of the summer and I would be back to Pro V1X. I'm over my ball testing phase - one ball for the season.

I played AVX last year, but I'll be going back to Pro V1x as my main ball this year, I think. I am going to give the V1 a spin, and I like the AVX on firm ground when it is windy. They help me into the wind with better distance, and there are a few long par 4's and par 5's that play dead into the prevailing wind where I play the most. I also bought two dozen Snell MTB Black, so they get a chance as well.

I'm not good enough to notice a performance difference between balls as long as the cover is urethane. I can feel a difference between different balls but the shot result always turns out well if I strike it well. Mind you I prefer a softer ball, no X type. I currently have a good many dozen in reserve: Z Stars, B300 RX, Duo U, and Maxfli U6 Tour Soft. All perform fine for me but the Z Stars are my favorite.

I’ve played the Chrome Soft since they came out. Just started testing out the Pro V1X based on “the ball test that shall not be named”. Once I decide, I won’t change anytime soon; it’s the only thing in my bag that sticks around.

I just lost 3 MG on the course! I'm glad they are only $20 a dozen.

Actually hit them fairly well, but don't love the physical feel of them... have 21 more left to lose! (I lost 2 of them in the rough after sighting them down... f****** Kentucky Bluegrass)

I use one ball per season. I like to know how the ball will consistently perform and you can't do that if you're constantly changing balls.

For me it depends on the greens. I play a lot of small green courses so usually need all the spin I can get off irons and wedges to hold the green. If I find a course that where the balls scream back at me, I'm switching to something that doesnt spin as much.

I have always been a tinkerer and felt like I was ALWAYS ball testing. Last season was the first season I used one ball, the Titleist AVX. While there were certainly times I considered changing because wished I had more greenside spin, I found there to be some really big gains in my scores by knowing exactly what to expect in both distance and spin from my ball.

I recently addressed the greenside spin issue in a swap to the Bridgestone Tour BX. Man do I like this ball, and I plan on playing only the Tour BX this season; the consistency factor really improves my game!

I guess my answer would technically be a TBD kind of thing. I've played quite confidently with the TP5 for the past two years, but I'm always trying sleeves here and there out of curiosity. To date, nothing has knocked the TP5 out of the bag but I do use a different ball (kind of whatever I've got at the time) for winter season rounds that don't count. But if I'm playing for anything of significance, TP5 has been, is and will be in the bag for the foreseeable future.
