Frisco Lakes is raising their PLP membership price to $99/month. I still think its good value, but I moved a little farther away so mostly just annoying. Indian Creek is much closer to me and they have a similar PLP for 85/month. Any ideas on if Indian creek is a better experience than Frisco Lakes? Only played there once and it was pre-covid

I know I'm a month late on answering this, but I have the PLP at Bridlewood for $115 a month, and I personally wouldn't give it up to pay $85 at Indian Creek.  If you get a lot of rain in Carrollton, that range will be closed down for a while.  Short game area leaves a lot to be desired at Indian Creek as well.  No bunker to practice shots, and there are no cups on the putting green.  The courses are fine, but I don't have a lot of time to play right now, so when I do have a few hours, I get much more out of my time at Bridlewood.

I'm probably moving across the street from Frisco Lakes in November after my wedding, so I'll probably be doing the PLP there after we get settled.

Yeah, the price wasn't really a primary concern, mostly just me moving. in afternoon/evening traffic, it takes me ~45 min to get to Frisco Lakes from my new house, and Indian creek is only about 10 min. Every minute counts when you have a 1 year old at home alone with mom lol

I ended up getting the PLP and its been ok so far. I usually play 9 Wednesday afternoons and 18 on sunday mornings. I miss the free beer you get with the membership at Frisco Lakes, but overall I feel like having 2 courses to play at IC is a little better for me. The range at IC has toptracer which is awesome, at Frisco Lakes I had to bring my own Flightscope to get any data from my practice.

Value wise, they're about the same. This is only a situation for a couple of years - once my son is old enough i'm hoping to get a membership at Prestonwood or Gleneagles

With you now being 10 minutes away from Indian Creek, it does make sense for you to get the membership there.  I don't have the 1 year old at home, but having a fiancé at home, I get wanting to use your time efficiently. We're in the middle of planning a wedding, so when I can get away on a weekend, Bridlewood is an easy drive for me from where we live.

I haven't used the Top Tracer on the range just because when I am out there, the range is too busy for me to even try to use it.  I coach HS golf locally, so we rarely use the range because of the amount of people out there most afternoons.  We mainly use the chipping area for some golfers and a few others will be playing 9 holes.  Most of our range time is at The Highlands.

I don’t always want to come across this forum as being purely negative, but public golf right now in this town or Metroplex, is absolutely atrocious. With the exception of a very very few. It never used to be like this. It makes me incredibly sad. Southern Oaks in Burleson was barely above gravel greens. I will never understand what happened to public golf.

Too much play and the courses dont have time to recover.

As the Dallas business man who raised the funds and built our course says, "this time of year, everyone freaks out." We have about a 5 month window here to grow warm season grass and we're not there yet, we need about another 10 degrees average temperature. We're still one month out from that.

High+Low = 150+ for Texas grass to prosper is what we're fed...As local clubs greens look magnificent while ours struggle...

Why are some courses ie: Skycreek and Waterchase, with great greens and others, like Bridlewood, struggling to keep the course alive. I heard the green keeper at Bridlewoods passed. It seems to me there is great value in a good greens keeper.

Some areas have bit hit harder than others in the metroplex when it comes to rain and the extreme weather we had this winter.  The fluctuations in temperatures hasn't helped lately either with the teasing of warmer weather, and then it cools off again for a stretch.  Bridlewood gets so much play that it's probably not helping whatever grass that is there grow, and the greens were punched recently.

They have Poana or something growing in them and a bunch just dying.

The Poa is from the cooler temperatures.  Once the temperatures are consistently hotter, the Poa will die off.  They probably decided to not spend the money on any chemicals to get rid of it.  Other courses in the area have Poa on them too.

Played Las Colinas today. What a fantastic turf in outstanding shape. Facilities are great and the practice facilities are top notch

Easily the most under-rated ClubCorp course in North Texas. I found the course conditions actually nicer than Gleneagles and Stonebriar which are both technically more expensive. The location is the only reason it's priced as is it, if it was the exact same course but in West plano or Lakewood it would easily be double to triple the initiation fee. Also cool that US open winner Corey Pavin plays there as his main course, I've seen him both times I've been out there.

Also, at The Hills Course at Prestonwood, does anyone have any insight how busy it gets there? I am considering there too but only as a Hills member. I have heard it might be difficult to get tee times.

Hills I'm not a fan of the course or the practice facility. Most of the Prestonwood members I know do most of their rounds at the Creek location and a decent amount of them go to Brookhaven for practice which has a really nice practice facility.

Didn't know the overall public landscape was that bad. I'm lucky being in a good location because all of the public courses within 15 minutes of me I've had zero issues with since 2018 in terms of consistently and conditions (Sherrill Park #1 and #2, Firewheel Lakes and Bridges, Pecan Hollow, Watters Creek).

Yeah it’s brutal right now. Courses haven’t been great and you have to book a tee time 2 weeks in advance to get a Saturday morning spot.

These 2 answered their own question. Public golf is full even though the courses are in bad condition. Why spend money to improve if you can spend less and make money. If people stop playing, they’ll have to actually compete for business.

Firewheel Lakes and Watters Creek are 2 of my favorites in the area.  I wish I lived closer to both, but they are worth the drive when I have time to play.

Can we get a list going of courses in good shape currently?

Rangers looked pretty good during the Korn Ferry tournament. And Waterchase just held the Byron Nelson qualifier.

Those are the courses the #100 - 500 ranked golfers in the world played on this week to keep their PGA tour hopes alive.

Those guys play a lot of courses with a lot on the line that most would consider out of shape.

Says the guy who lives in california. Greens die here every winter with slight problems.

Something is obviously wrong under this green, leading to the conditions on the surface. Air/water movement through the profile isn't performing correctly. Probably a problem about 2 feet deep.

You couldn't spray round-up on that green and kill that much grass, bermuda is indestructible.

So you slap down slabs of sod, poorly placed, that’ll take two seasons to even begin to look like something like a smooth green, if ever?

Seriously, that serious of damage requires rebuilding and reseeding the entire green.  A haphazard band aid of sod like that is beyond ridiculous.

Posting this here not so much to start a debate on the merits of the list. The thing I find most interesting is the make up of the list. Out of the supposed Top 100 courses in Texas, only 27 are available for anyone to play (16 resort courses and 11 public courses). The fact that there are so few opportunities for public play leads to the conditions situation being discussed at so many courses. It is a little sad to me that there are not more quality courses available for more folks.
