Depending on ability watch what tees you play.   They push everyone to play the III the times i have played it and i much prefer the II and i am not a long hitter.

I'll be playing the East again but I figure I'll have another go at it since I know how to play it more. The caddie was helpful in some instances but I felt like it was more generic information since he didn't know my distances. Now I know!

I had the chance to play one of the Dallas Athletic Club courses today for the GCSAA scholarship tournament. Amazing course, amazing condition. Awesome place, the members there are in great hands. One of the best I've ever experienced.

Got hooked up with a 3 day weekend and wanting to get out at least one of those days. Anyone have an open spot or willing to join me one of those days?
 

My usual playing partner is out of town, and will be leaving early next year, so I’m also looking for some people that I can get out and play with regularly. Live by Lake Worth but able and willing to travel.

 

If it helps to put your mind at ease, I’m active duty military, and have been playing golf since I was 4. Music and drinks aren’t my thing, but they don’t bother me.

On November 1st they advertised that the official opening date was November 15th and then on the 12th they updated there status and said closed until further notice. 

 

Talked to the 1st assistant out there last week and he said he has no idea. 

 

Very odd to basically announce a two week notice and then reverse it. At this point they might as well just wait for the dormant season to end and open it in the spring

Can't imagine a course issue on a muni that would cause that, must be an administrative thing.

new in Dallas - anyone know of a driving range that is heated as well as open at night?  this is pretty common in the NYC area but not sure if its common in Dallas.  any help would be appreciated!

Believe The Highlands Performance Golf has some bays.  The Ice House at PGA has heated bays for sure but more of a bar atmosphere than range.  If you want indoor sims the PGA SS has them for rental as well as a couple other more bar themed ones around DFW.

For night range, highlands performance is your best bet. But they’re on grass so no heaters.

The golf ranch is also open late, but all turf I believe. Watters creek is open late but some days turf and some grass

I live next to golf center of Arlington, and they have it, but their rates went from $7 dollars from a large bag to $50 dollars for a large bag overnight when the new Brazilian owner took over. I can't fathom why anyone still goes there, but the place is always packed. I don't get it, but good for them. Drive 2 minutes to rangers and it's about 10 bucks for the same amount of balls on a tour level, overseeded range with real greens with real bunkers to hit into.

Rev’s in Highland Village is good, but pricey. They have membership options, but hourly rates are $50 before 5pm during the week, $70 after 5/weekends.

I got in on the PGA membership before they upped it from $150 to $300. I get one more renewal at $150 but even at $300 for the year it’s a solid deal if you are close. 1 hour of Trackman a day and I go 2-3 times a week when I go to my office

Was out at Pecan Hollow yesterday and saw this… Hope their beloved greens aren’t dead in a few weeks. This was on the par 3 course, so hopefully they at least covered the greens on the actual course

First, I understand the concern.

 

The guy who runs that place is one of the best superintendents in the area. Consistently rated as one of if not the best conditions on a public course in DFW. The combination of snow cover and rain did more to help than any tarp can. What kills bermuda greens is when it gets really dry and really cold at the same time. And luckily neither of those happened this time. They will be alright.

 

Look how green the green surrounds are in that photo, that grass would be a grey color if it was negatively affected by the freeze. It's harder to see on the greens because they are cut so short but they would be grey, white, or black if they were in trouble. Brown / orange means they're ok, which is what i see.

We have lost bermuda greens under covers in the cold. It is a tool to keep them a few degrees warmer, but not a guarantee to keep them alive. 

 

Would they be better if they covered them? Absolutely, that would have warmed them up a few degrees. So your concern is totally legitimate.

 

Luckily we got some rain and snow which saved us much more than covers could, we got lucky.

So we have a group of 4 going up around May, None of us have played in the Dallas area before. We were thinking of the Tour 18 and the TPC course. We are going to be playing 3 rounds. Any recommendations?
