Probably around Plano, we really do not have a budget. Just looking for nice places to play. Thanks

@gs1184 listed some nice courses but some are pretty far from Plano if you don't mind driving so here are a couple that are closer to Plano.

The PGA Fields are obviously nice but pushing $400-500 for the East course.

Old American use to host a LPGA event and is a fun track.

Pecan Hollow-Plano muni always in good shape

Tennison Park-Highlands course- Dallas muni but fun with elevation

Cowboys-Had to throw it in but it is a meh for me.

I’m in town for next couple of days. Want to play today and tomorrow but I’m a single. Any recommendations don’t have to play a high end course. Just want somewhere with good greens and in good shape.
staying downtown but don’t mind driving 30 minutes or so

Better get something in tomorrow because I’m getting emails from a lot of the courses that are going to be closed for about a week or so because of the stupid temperatures. It gets too hot here to be that cold.

Saw Grapevine is closing tomorrow at noon!  It will not get close to freezing until Saturday night.

That's really surprising for today (Friday). The wind is going to be howling out of the south but its also going to be around 60 degrees.

Saturday I can see. On Saturday afternoon, it's supposed to be something like in the mid-40's and sunny. But the wind is going to be howling out of the north.

Some courses are starting today so it guarantees they'll have it all done by tomorrow night. The course by my house is sending the last person off at noon so they will try to get the first 5 or 6 holes covered today before the crew leaves and then that will leave them all of tomorrow to do the remaining holes + practice/chipping green areas.

Agreed. Dallas is pretty good about supporting their courses. Their large neighbor to the west is unfortunately trying to kill or sell off all their properties.

The upcoming Bent Tree course renovation is rumored to be similar price tag to the Colonials. Somewhere in the low to mid 20 million range. Bent Tree announced on their website that Beau Welling will be doing the renovation which is a great name to have.

Crazy that the last 6 or 7 years have been all of the equity clubs trying to outdo each other. Competition is fierce right now in the DFW country club landscape.

You cant be talking about City of FTW golf right? What they did renovating Rockwood and then going in and currently renovating Meadowbrook is more than the city of Dallas as dreamt of doing to their public golf program lol So much so they put Cedar Crest out to bid because they cant put their little heads together and figure out a competent way to keep the place alive.

Absolutely talking about Ft. Worth. They have done a great job of building 2 new courses in the past several (10) years. Rockwood and Meadowbrook this past year.

However, they are abysmal at following up after construction to keep them up. Like buying a new car and never changing the oil.

Rockwood hast completely lost their greens twice since opening. Pecan Hollow's irrigation system is still hydraulic based and is at this point completely non-functional because there are no longer any parts to be had to support that type of system. Only thing keeping that place alive the last few years is some fortunate rainfall events late summer.

The city wants nothing to do with these courses and is actively searching for buyers. Your tax dollars hard at work. Don't kill the messenger.

I’m confused why we are now talking about Pecan Hollow who has nothing to do with either the City of Dallas or City of FTW public golf…

I believe we have actually met in "real life," and I apologize for what I said regarding Pecan Hollow. Best public course in the metroplex by far, I was referring to Pecan Valley.

We have, I’ve played your place and you’ve played mine, also not the first time we’ve had conversation on your “hot takes” then you delete the original message. Disagreements are healthy but it’s hard to hold on when the facts aren’t there, show me the capital improvements done or planned by city of Dallas, vs the city of ftw planned and completed full golf course reno capital improvements. I could be wrong but last time I remember a CoD course closing for improvements was Stephens park and Cedar crest but both of them was a forced closure from losing turf.

Cedar crest also lost their greens twice recently, different than what happened at Rockwood and being in the industry you should know that. They also put the place out to bid… CoD closed the Glen course at Tenison, FTW currently has Meadowbrook under the knife after all the success Trey Kemp and Colligan had at Rockwood with the redo.

Agree with you on not maintaining a municipal after it does get redone but most of the time that’s not the fault of the Superintendent. Sometimes it is, but they don’t have the money, time or resources to do what we do on our level. It’s also not 180k and $2k a month to be there. Perception is reality…
