Has anyone been successful going back to steel shafts after tennis elbow symptoms subsided?

Been in graphite iron shafts for 5 yrs now and would not go back to steel if they were free. Sorry, but I can hit 200+ balls a day off mats with my current sets with no worry at all. Steel offers me nothing at all.

I just found a very inexpensive set of new Z-Forged irons with this shaft. I have them on the way due to several pieces of advice here and locally. I will give them a go but I have promised myself that they have to be on notice from ball 1 LOL. I really want them to work but I am VERY carefully slightly optimistic :-)

I will report back with my experience. Like most everything in life, I am sure my mileage may vary!

You'll find the Nippons smooth, but not as generous as graphite. If you elbows aren't currently hurting, you should be GTG.

Just stay off the mats.

In the last two days I have hit a bucket of balls with the Z Forged with Modus 105 and the Rose Proto with Modus 105. It was only about 50 balls with each and my elbows are telling me to stop NOW. I really though I might get by with it.

I have a set of Recoil 95 F4 on the way. I hate this because I loved the feel and hit the Z Forged with Modus very well :-(.

Now I know and I won't make this mistake again.

I had severe tennis elbow in my lead arm. I needed the pressure gel and NSAIDs just to make it around the course.

I fixed my swing so I wasn't hammering the ground with a steep ott move. It went away.

I have given some thought to flattening out my swing to reduce wear on myself. I for sure get a little steep sometimes, but a top 100 coach I went to this spring for the first time said after I told him my HC and hit a few balls " your short game/course management must not be very good because your swing is good enough to break 75 every round". For the record, my short game is still not very good because my HC is 7.5 but I am hesitant to change the full swing much after he told me not to.

I guess the number one thing has got to be having elbows that allow me to play. The modus 105 in the Z Forged produced the best range session I have had in a couple of months though. Decisions LOL

I had the elbow problem when I first picked up golf, was hitting fat shots. I'd go see an instructor to see if it's a swing issue. You should post a swing video here.

I have mild golfer's elbow - it never stops me swinging but can ache for a couple of days after a range session. Of the steel shafts I've tried I'd say:

DG S400 - fine, elbow feels the same after a range session as it does at the start

PX 6.0 - starts to ache towards the end but manageable, clears up a couple of hours after the session

C-Tapers 120S - avoid like the plague. Elbow aches after 5 or 6 balls and takes a day or two to recover from.
