Bit of an end of season bag update. Been playing 9 (or 8 as sometimes drop the 4 wood) all season. Added some forged irons that feel amazing when I catch them right, got individual irons with a Cobra MB 9 iron, players cavity king tour 7 iron and 5 king Tec utility iron. Upgraded from my 56 wedge to a Taylormade 58 hi toe raw face, gives slightly better gapping to the 50 gap wedge (still one of my favourite clubs and not going anywhere) and also seems to be very versatile with the high toe design especially out of thick rough/bunkers. Also upgraded my driver from my old Yonex XPG to a newer Yonex ezone GS with an upcharge hot pink Rexis Kazia shaft as managed to get a really good deal on it. Finally picked up a Cleveland HB soft 8p milled putter with a ust all in shaft as the deal was just too good to leave on the shelf, feel like this gives more stability than my older anser style blade without looking like a mallet (I just can't stand looking at them no matter how well I putt with them...) Really happy with this setup now, feel like each individual club does the job required of it and isn't just part of a set, whist this is the case now I'm sure that there will be some more tinkering next year!

Is it a long putter?  What does the cavity look like?  As a fan of center-shafted putters, I think it is exactly awesome.

Once I get my 2025 bag set (as close as it can be) I’ll post a picture. The bottom of my set has been fairly solid for the past 8-10 months, this consists of my Crenshaw putter, 56*, 8i, then 4i. Past that I’ve been playing some sort of tee club and then a 3 wood the past few rounds, but that spot has been a revolving door pretty much all year. Sometimes it’s 1 club, sometimes it’s 2, but it rarely is the same thing more than 2 rounds. My latest experiment is a NOS Tour Edge 10.5 “Mini Driver” from eBay. I just built it up and am excited about getting to hit it.

Well so far the “mini driver” is pretty much just a very large 3 wood. It’s probably around 220-240cc, so it inspires a little more confidence when hitting off the tee. I’ve only played it in the sim, and I’m going to spend the next week trying to figure out the top of my bag. I’m going to be playing my first round of the year next week and I’m going to have a new to me Ping G driver in the bag. I really think I’m going 6 clubs this year instead of 5, I really want something between my driver and 4 iron for tee shots and par 5s. Right now the options are the “mini”, an R7 13*, and an R7 TP 15*. I’m leaning towards the 13*.

Welcome to the forum, cool set up too. I have been convinced that less clubs are better for most people, especially beginners. You really only need a tee club, a utility, some irons that you’re comfortable with, a wedge, and putter. I think 5-8 clubs is plenty for most amateurs.

Yes I think you're right. Better to get comfortable with limited clubs, but it's extremely tempting to fill out the set. I was thinking the other day that I may have been better off just going with a single wedge for familiarity, but also because despite this supposedly being a 10 club bag, without full length dividers, clubs get stuck with more than 8 in there.

@boontya, I’ve gone from a Ping Moonlite to the Koger small carry bag and both companies seem to overestimate the amount of clubs their bags can hold lol. So I would imagine that most companies state their bags can hold more than they do.

My first time posting a WITB. This is the minimalist bag I ended last season with. It's not quite minimal in the 'every-other-club' approach, as I'm not the longest of hitters and need both a fairway wood and a forgiving hybrid -- for some 2nd shots and for long Par 3s, respectively. 

 

Also, my photography skills are non-existent, so let me tell you what I play (before adding just a few photos). 9 clubs, which I suppose means I'm only a semi-minimalist, and more photos of the putter than of any other club, which I suppose means I'm becoming a true golfwrx-er 🙂

I've found this 3 way carry bag (TM Flextech Carry) to be a great bag for a minimalist setup.  Very slim and just the right pockets in the right places.  I carry a 10.5* driver, 22* hybrid, 6i, 8i, 46*, 58*, and putter.

@brew4eagle, good looking set up! I can see Maltby irons and judging by your avatar the other clubs in your bag are likely Maltbys too. I just built my son a new 56 with a Maltby head and it looks as good or better than any major brand. I just wish they had more options in lefty models.

It really is! It seems to me as close as you can get to having all the benefits of carrying fewer clubs/less weight while yet sacrificing almost nothing. If some tour or governing body ever mandates a 10 club limit, I think the majority of golf pros would have a bag much like that one, ie not the specific brands, but the club types and gapping
