Minimalists - show off your WITB

Started learning/playing properly this year after only ever hitting the range.

Love the minimalist/half-set buzz, so put together my perfect set which came to 9 clubs.

Light enough to carry and walk. Loving it!

Played my first round of the season with a Half Set of 7 clubs. 9 holes at the East Greenwich Country Club in Rhode Island.

I also played the first round of the 2022 season in Rhode Island.  I played so much better yesterday!

12* Ladies Stealth Driver

XXIO 7I, 9I

Callaway MD5 52/10S

Mizuno 54/8D

Ping Glide 3.0 58/6TS

Odyssey Indianapolis Putter

Made good swings with the entire set.  Most missed club was my Callaway Jaws 58/8Z.  Not used to playing on hard ground.  Should have used my thin sole lob wedge more often.

The Sun Mountain 2.5+ has room for everything yet weights only 1lb more than the old Sunday Bag. It has a long pocket for my Zero Restrictions Gore Tex Rain Jacket!

I want to know more about the ladies Stealth driver. What's the length, your swing speed and carry distance if I may ask? I've been looking at it but haven't had the chance to hit one.

I'm 5' 2"

After a late lobster dinner with corn on the cob, ice cream, chocolate, grrapes, and apple cider, I weigh 106lbs with a tight waistline measurement of 24inches,

Club Champion built me a 41" driver with a Veylix 573 Senior Flex shaft with a SW of C2.

Total  distance in Rhode Island was 175 when I hit it straight down the middle of the fairway.

Carry with my fade is about 175 as well, but hitting it straight should eventually result in better misses.

On Par 3 course the misses were fades that went into the trees, but not by much.  I think I would be fine on a full sized course.

I can also hit a draw with that has a nice roll, but I want to hit it straight as my stock shot.

I need to vary my alignment slightly when chose different shot shapes with driver.

I built a 2nd Stealth driver for $175.  New head for $125.  Veylix 673 hybrid senior shaft.  42 inches with the same club weight! +/- 1 gram!

175yards/24 inches=7.3 yards per inch of waistline!

Average male waistline is 40 inches.  7.3* 40 =292 yards,

Alternately, 175 yards/106lbs=1.65 yards/lb  198lbs*1.65yards/lb=327 yards  🤣

My numbers seem pretty good based on these metrics. 🤣

Pretty cool thread with lots of different approaches.  I used to play with 14 clubs (thinking it was good to have more options and not less) but have recently dropped down to 12.  It's been liberating having a lighter bag and now I'm plotting my way to playing a full course with only 10 clubs (I'm thinking D, 5W, 5I-PW, 54W, putter).  We'll see--maybe one day I'll have a minimalist WITB to show here 🙂

Stock setup (11): Mini D (TM 300 11.5), 3W (TM Aeroburner), 5W (Callaway BB), 5H (TM M6), 6i-PW (Callaway Rogue ST Max), 54* wedge (TM Hi Toe), putter (Odyssey White Hot OG 5)

Minimalist setup (9): Subtract the 3W and 9i

Extra clubs that occasionally find their way in (5): 4H, 5i, 46* (Callaway Rogue ST Max); 52* and 58* (TM MG2)

I like the attitude. When I play vintage golf I just have fun hitting different shots and could care less about the score. I do like your set up there

Been out of the game for about 2 years due to working remotely as a contractor and not finding the time. I started up again last month and this is my current set up.

PXG 0811 XF Gen 2 9 degree (+1.5 deg) - 44.5" - Evenflow Riptide 6.0 65g

Callaway Super Hybrid 17 (+1 deg) - stock tensei orange

Nike SQ2 Hybrid - 23 deg - AMT black

Nike Vapor Fly - 28 deg - AMT black

Nike Vapor Fly Pro - 36 deg - AMT black

Nike VR split cavity - 43 deg - AMT black

Nike Engage Straight - 50 deg - Ping AWT 2.0

Nike Engage Toe Sweep - 56 - Ping AWT 2.0

SIK Flo-C - 38"

I've been playing OK off the flat but struggling playing off uneven or rough lies at the moment. Driver is really playing up! I'm sure it will come back after a few rounds and a bit of swing practice to get my groove back.

@WipeyFade incredible set up. Where’d you find the green leather grips?

Thanks! They are The Grip Master Roos. They are extremely tacky and perfect for this north Alabama humidity. No glove required. I plan on getting one for my putter eventually.

@WipeyFade Awesome kit!  I’m sure you’ll be able to obtain your single digit goal with 5 clubs as you’re not very far away now.

Thanks! I have 2 golf goals this year: break 80 and have a single digit handicap. I would have obliterated the first a few weeks ago if it hadn’t have gotten too dark to see. I was +1 through 14 the other day at my home club before having to call it.

I need to do an update on my WITB. My bag has changed considerably. The above 8 club bag was my “I’m going to become a decent golfer” bag lol. I haven’t completely abandoned the idea of becoming a decent golfer, it’s just that fun has become the main priority. That’s not to say that my scores aren’t trending downward. I have dropped down to 5 clubs for my main setup and scores are better than they ever have been for whatever reason. I’m still wanting to get into single digits, and I honestly think I can do it with 5 clubs. I know I’m crazy and nowhere close, but right now I’m around a 12. Anyway, here is my current bag.

Driver- PowerBilt Citation (I had to send my Todd Demsey back because of a broken shaft)

4i, 8i- Handmade Stix LB-1

56*- same old Maxfli

Putter- Bettinardi Queen B 6

Ball- Kirkland Signature

Bag- Koger small

Well it hasn’t been a good month to be a driver at my house. First, my Demsey’s shaft breaks inside the hosel, then the shaft on my PowerBilt breaks inside the grip. Now I’m down to my practice squad QB that only knows a couple of plays and both go to the right. I’m going to get a new shaft for the PowerBilt, I just haven’t decided if I want old steel or modern graphite (opinions welcome). For now, I’m playing my Nicklaus DIV MacGregor. It’s not pretty, but it feels pretty good and I know it’s either going to hook or draw off the tee.

*Also, if anyone has an idea for how to get a broken shaft out of a grip I’m all ears.IMG_5839.jpeg.441489339e978613003c9b17f5e66c8e.jpeg

I’m been walking a couple a little par 3 tracks around the house and this is the setup I’ve settled on so far. I’m having so much fun I think I’m going to start taking this setup with me to the “big” courses, lol.
I’m starting with 10 clubs.

Stealth 3 wood with 70g VA

Composite Badazz shaft

Stealth 4 hybrid with Fujikura Ventus red shaft

Mizuno JPX 923 Hot Metal Irons 6-G with Dynamic Gold 95 G S300 shafts.

Cleveland 54* 588 RTX sandwedge.

Two ball putter.

Really nice set up.

I been playing between 7-9 clubs for 5 years now. And gone from 5 to a 2 hcp. So I strongly believe your on the right track. Keep it simple and fun 🤩

Thoughts on this bag so far? Do you have the suede or rubber strap? I'm about to pull the trigger on one myself as it seems like the perfect minimalist bag!

Edited by TCJ
Additional thought came to mind, so I added it... what's it to you buddy, huh?!?

@TCJ, it’s a great bag. I was on the fence a little because of the cost, but I would make the same purchase again in a heartbeat. Everything about it is near perfect. For walking and carrying this has to be the new gold standard. I noticed they have changed the strap a bit, but I have found the suede strap to be one of the best parts of the bag so you might want to look into that. For me, the suede grips onto your shirt and keeps the bag from sliding around while carrying. Another thing is that I thought I wouldn’t like the pockets as much as I do. They are perfect for what I need to bring along and another plus is that you can just leave them unzipped while carrying. I use it that way most of the time and have not had anything fall out. $500 is a lot of money for a bag, but it’s definitely worth it for the walking minimalist.

@WipeyFade True, it's a bit pricey, but I'm worth it 😉

Going to go with the suede strap to start I think. the pocket positioning on the bag fits perfectly with how I like to carry, which is a real plus for me.

In your experience, do you think a 40oz water bottle and short-sleeve wind pullover would fit into the larger pocket?
