Srixon U85.... where have you been all my life?

Got one on Monday - the 3 iron 20*. Always had trouble with alignment of a hybrid. The iron shape makes things so much easier. Also, more consistent distance without giving up distance. Very impressed.

I concur. I too have the 3 iron and it has turned into a real weapon for me on the course. I had it in the bag for my trip to Bandon last month and it was one of the most important clubs for me that week. I completely dropped the hybrid from the bag.... no need for it anymore.

Are you guys just using the stock Recoil shaft? If so, what kind of launch and roll are you seeing?

I got a U65 3 iron last year, stock shaft. I played it the last half of last year, liked it pretty much, but found a older Callaway 18 degree hybrid that is just easier to hit and have moved to it this year for my 210-220 shot. However, I also got a U85 4 iron this year, replaced my standard 4 iron (was playing Z945 blades) , have it in stock Recoil F5, which I also now play in my irons. The U85 flows very nicely with my Z585/785 mixed irons, and I like it because it launches quite high while still getting the distance I expect (I think it hit it higher than my 5 iron). I have thought of reshafting the U65 3 iron and see how I like it, the stock Myazaki shaft seems a bit soft to me, but I think it is more butt soft/tip stiff.

 

Before the U65 last year I played a TM UDI 17 degree with the stock HZRDUS black for a while. It was a monster off the tee, low running bombs (actually hard to elevate, the shaft doesn't help) , but not as forgiving nor as easy to hit off the deck and the Srixons.

I put a DG-Pro X100 in mine. Normal swing is a mid-flight without too much roll (2-3 yards), but I can flight it up or down super easy, which is really saying something because I am not at all good at this sport.

Tried out my new 4 iron one yesterday with a DG 120 X100. It replaced my old Nike VR pro 4 hybrid. The U85 was super easy to hit and elevate. Only tried once but I could not hit a fade with it. Very easy to hit straight and draw, it looks really closed to my eye. So I will have to get used it and find all the shots I can play with it. But for now its a very easy to hit 200 yard straight shot.

Driver swing speed 105 mph. I have no trouble with fade or draw, although the club does prefer to draw.

I'm man enough to admit that I have a u85 6 iron (stock recoil r- flex). Nice high ball flight and forgiving. Easy blend with the 585 irons.

Driver about 109-112 range. I switched to this after changing my grip this winter and losing the ability to not snap hook a hybrid.

That is all very relatable. I just picked up a U85 3iron in the recoil X flex (driver SS 112-115). Its been a godsend off the tee for tighter holes and I've been using it as a 2nd shot on par 5s.

 

the club is EXTREMELY workable high/low and I think its got a bit more size vs others (T-MB, UDI). Another great offering from Srixon

I have both the 4 iron and 2 iron (adjusted to 19 degrees) with LA golf shaft ozik red in both and love them. The feel is so much better than any hybrid and the added bulk in the head means they are a) forgiving b) fast and c) higher launching than any other utility iron. I only swing driver around 100-102 mph.
