I really feel like they have to establish a blanket policy so exceptions aren’t being made for what’s seen as a sport for rich white people.

I know I keep using basketball as an example, but it works. If that was my sport, and I was told I couldn’t play but golfers could carry on as usual, I’d have feelings. and nothing against pickup basketball, I love pickup basketball. I’m just not going to get 9 guys together to play right now no matter how cooped up I feel- indoors or outdoors. Not everybody has the same restraint. Even if one sport seems much safer than the other, it’s about the message

But at the same time they say we can get out and walk as long as we keep at least 6 feet apart. What is golf but a good walk spoiled?

There’s A LOT of physical contract with basketball, even a friendly game.

Why can they play their sport but we can't play ours? Why are some recreational activities ok but others aren't? Why is this form of exercise ok and that one isn't?

It's easier to just say "Stay at home, all recreation or exercise needs to be inside your house." If you start making exceptions, nobody takes it seriously and that's the biggest issue.

I'm not saying the sports are similar. I'm just saying if you don't clamp down on absolutely everything, people will feel free to make their own interpretations.

This is a perfect example. The only message that sends is that you can go out and walk with your friends. Around here at least, everyone is ignoring the 6 foot rule. Packs of suburban housewives are just roaming the sidewalks, walking and talking like they've always done.

You give people even the smallest opportunity to make a judgement call, and they'll fuck it up 99 times out of 100.

Had just enough time and angst to get out and play 9 at Oak Brook yesterday afternoon. As I was talking to the cashier they said they were about to get shut down due to the revised executive order, so I booked it out to the first tee. Was kind of surprised to see no raised cups, all the rakes in bunkers, pretty much zero protective measures to keep people from spreading germs. Nice quiet walk otherwise, albeit a bit chilly.

quite literally one could be allowed because it can be very easily accomplished without coming into close proximity of anyone else and the other cannot. that is the exact reason why reasonably one could be allowed and the other couldnt. If one couldnt recognise that without it turning into a class debate then theyre just looking for an argument

There’s been a game of 2 on 2 happening in the alley behind my house since 1:30 so I’ll stick by it. Giving anybody wiggle room right now seems like it could keep us off the course all summer

took a walk around the neighborhood to blow off the cabin fever. went down to Sportsman's to see the clubhouse has been demolished.

not too many folks around, just some dog walkers and we kept a respectful distance.

felt good to get some fresh air and some leg time.

no roses to smell but take the good times when you can.

My positive thought for the day - We may see the best course conditions we've ever seen on a lot of usually overplayed public courses in a few weeks. I just can't help but think how much a spring with very little traffic will help everything come together.

Got to play Palmira (less than an hour from Chicago) this morning. Course was a great value ($18) and though there were lots of people out, I'd say most did a good job of keeping their distance from one another. Some of the tee boxes were a bit muddy, but the terrain was very playable and the elevation changes kept it interesting throughout. Managed to walk the course in less than four hours and the weather held up. I'd definitely recommend to people looking to scratch their golf itch.

Most people did. I don't understand why it's so difficult for some people to comprehend. I went grocery shopping on Sunday, and some people insisted on crowding my space. There were few people in the store early Sunday morning, so it should have been fairly easily to stay away from people, but nope, a handful of nitwits just don't get it.

Not playing anywhere tomorrow. We'll get nothing and like it from a golf perspective in Illinois, so its time for reflection & looking forward for me. With 2 rugrats in the house I wasn't able to do the damage to my unplayed Illinois list last year, but did knock off Mt Prospect, Ruffled Feathers & Orchard Valley.

Nice! I played that course going back to my high school days as a conference member, in IL, held their home matches there. I actually won JV conference there. We used to hate that course, but over the years it grew on me, partly because they put some work into it, but mainly because it has some character with some really cool holes and can look amazing in the fall as the colors change. I didn't even consider that IN courses might be open, good to know.

The thought of heading to Indiana did not occur to me until I heard them talking about it on ESPN 1000. Great suggestion Dashfast! A little ironic how IL gets trashed for forcing corporations to leave the state, now forcing golfers to leave the state too ;) Other than Palmira, any other suggestions for NW IN? On ESPN, they referenced White Hawk and Scherwood. Thoughts?

I was actually looking at this yesterday. I am in the courses should be closed camp, but just for fun was doing research on open courses. Harrison Hills is open (2+ hours depending on where you are) and looks pretty solid. Not sure why ESPN is suggesting people travel to Indiana to golf right now, that is a whole different discussion not worth getting into though.

Good suggestion! That is definitely a little further than I would want to go considering at that distance, one could hit the South Bend courses. Was trying to keep drive down to 1:15ish from Schaumburg.
