The bunkers at Dubs are its biggest defense. If you find them with your tee shots, it can be a long day.

Mistwood's 15th is definitely a beast. 'Very intimidating standing on that teebox, especially if there's a headwind. If your short of the elbow, the layup is no picnic either.

A lot of folks like Cog Hill #2, The Ravines. I think it has some excellent holes, but conditions over the years have been spotty. The #1 and #3 courses are forgettable.

Glad to hear you had a good time, and avoided any t-storms that can pop up this time of the year.

In normal conditions I don't wear a glove.

In the current conditions, I rotate between two or three gloves removing it after every shot.

I did have to put the rain gloves on last Saturday though.

i used to hit up the Buffalo Grove dome a lot when we lived up that way. Used to get such a kick out of hitting the driver in there. Basically the sound of the driver was immediately followed by hitting one of the banners that hung from the ceiling.

More often though I just went to the Des Plaines center in winter. Assuming no snow on the ground the heated bays were more than fine most days.

I carry a rosin bag for the non-glove hand and will use it a couple of times during a really humid round. What I've also found to work is to run my hand over the wet part of the golf towel and that little amount of water will evaporate leaving my hand nice and dry.

I'm a very sweaty person used this or something very similar back when I lived in Texas and it was a huge help. Completely forgot that I used this in the past but may order some for this summer!

Village Links yesterday afternoon. Was eyeing down the tee sheet all day and saw it was wide open during the afternoon right before the twilight rates kicked in. Think it was a combo of people waiting for the cheaper rates and the heat scared some off.

 

Tee'd off just after 2:00pm and finished in about 1 hour 50 min and that was after playing through a 4some on 11 and having to wait on #17. Traps were pretty wet from the rain we got Wednesday night... didn't think we got THAT much rain so I was pretty surprised. Given the traps still being wet, I was surprised at how fast the greens were playing, but they obviously dry out much quicker than the traps so I guess it made sense. 1 measly birdie and I bogey'd every par 5 for an 81. Tough to complain about sneaking in a sub 2 hour round on a gorgeous day though.

 

p.s. - I wore pants and I always wear pants. Just a habit and I'm more comfortable in pants no matter what the temperature is.

He was referring back to my post about all the seniors at Prairie View wearing pants in low-90’s temps. I get that older people are more at risk for skin cancer and obviously if they had a transplant they need to wear long sleeves and long pants at all times. The anti-rejection drugs push their cancer risk through the roof. However, in weather like this with no water on most courses, I genuinely worry about some of these older guys making it through 18 holes, especially in long pants. I’m guessing cpeck is a little younger than the mid-70’s to early-80’s guys I saw on Tuesday.

Nice morning out at Deerpath. Conditions were very good. I too was surprised to see wet sand in the bunkers. Did we get that much rain recently? They were in the process of grooming them, so they were quite playable. Greens looked great, and were rolling at least 10. I got lucky with the pace. I arrived a little early, and had my choice of going out as a single behind league play on the front, or starting on the 10th just as the first group in the league was making their approaches to the 9th. Of course I hurried to the 10th to get out in front. I was expecting to run into a group at some point, but nope, had the back nine to myself. Sweet 1:15 pace. I can't imagine how slow the league was playing, but there had to be at least four or five holes open in front of them. Luckily there was an opening on the first tee with a threesome, and we got around the front in 2:05. I'll take it.

Good day ballstriking with 10 fairways and 12 greens. Only one birdie, as I just wasn't getting my approaches close enough.

I was in an absolute downpour yesterday on 18 at Ruffled Feathers. To the point I ran to my car and by the time I got there I was so soaked I had to ride home in my boxers and my wife's golf towel that happened to be in the car. I also had to completely dry out my bag when I got home. Lasted only 30 min though and we didn't get anything in Naperville/Lisle. And obviously Deerpath is way up north compared to where I was.

Is anyone playing TPC Deere Run this weekend with the tournament set-up? I know today is the first day they are running this promotion. I am teeing off tomorrow at 8:48am. Have never played a course with a PGA tournament set-up so it should be a treat. Will report back.

I'm in the SW part of Naperhell and for about 4 minutes last night just before 6P it came down in buckets, stopped and poof was gone.

... Wow, we were at Naperbrook from 3pm - 8pm and saw massive rain to the east and had a 1:10 lightening delay but it never rained at the course.

we picked up 1/2" on tuesday night a few miles north of Deerpath and a bit more yesterday.

 

strangely enough, I was very close to Deerpath with visiting relatvies.

We were driving home north on 94 and just at 137 we hit a big downpour (1/3" in 30 minutes or so).

Pine Meadow may or may not have gotten some of that (Pine Meadow is between 137 and 176).

hopefully not all courses saw this, but it's back to flooded saturated courses, for a while

Given how hot it has been and the heat in the forecast, courses will dry out extremely quickly. It is a good thing we got rain this week. Without it, things were going to get too dry around here. Plus, it gives courses a chance to refill their irrigation systems.

... The water hazard surrounding the 7th hole at Naperbrook was bone dry and you could see all the balls in the mud/dirt. I am not sure I have ever seen it completely void of any water, so yea we really needed some rain.

in libertyville area, we've had an inch per week of rain since june 20, and 3 inches of rain since Tuesday.

I didn't realize it was so dry down south, but I do now recall idlewild's super's tweets all about fighting the dragon (keeping the irrigation system in operation).

Exactly. Much of the turf moisture will be gone by tomorrow afternoon. This ain't spring time, when we get a couple of inches rain followed by cloudy days with temps in the 50s and 60s.

I love playing in the fall when it can be really dry, and if you hit a great drive it rolls forever, was hoping to see that again. No worries. Also looking to finally use my carry bag this year instead of the stand bag. I've found conditions need to be really dry for that, otherwise in setting the bag on the ground it can pick up some moisture and dirt that then can be transferred to my clothes as I'm walking. I know, WRX problems...
