Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round 3)

Big Fun today.   Set my expectations pretty low,  and shockingly the course exceeded them.  The greens were almost perfect in most spots, rolled great  and true, they we're just on the very slow side.   Almost no ball marks,  probably because 90% of the guys there can't hit the greens.   Fairways were great,  tee boxes were solid and the bunkers looked decent.   The rough was brutal, in many places even wedging it out was tough.  Pace was almost 5 hours on the dot as expected, but I mentally prep for that one ahead of time.  What this place could be.

Great day on the par 3s, playing them one under.   Tossed in another bird on 17.  Unfortunately I filled the card with 4 doubles (one being the easy 8th).  I guess I'll take a 78.

That way it isn’t reported for taxes. Rich guy business 101.

That’s encouraging news on conditions …putting it on my radar

Got out to Heritage Bluffs this morning - only my 3rd round of the year.  Course was in great condition.  Perfect-ish pace of play - teed off at 7am and finished in hair under 4 hours. Why perfect-ish?  One of the guys I played with is a little too deliberate (to put it nicely), only to shoot 95. Oh well… didn’t have to wait to hit, and nobody waited on us, so there’s that.  Game is in the toilet - has been for quite some time.  Somewhere along the way picked up some bad habits, but I think I got them figured out (yeah right).  Couple too many loose shots resulting in way too many doubles - 84.
Non resident rate shot up to $99 - ouch🤬.

We've taken therm out of the rotation with their price jump.   Lots of courses I'll pay $100 with no issue, that's not one of them.

Our comp group played Cog #2 on Saturday.  Not a lot of good things to say as the course was sopping wet, CPO, mudballs aplenty, thick wet rough where our foursome lost at least 6-8 balls, while finding 50.  Oh wait, the bunkers had nice sand.  The greens had been punched 2 weeks ago guessing, and they put the ohhhhhhhh in slow. Speaking of slow, 2 groups in front of us were playing a scramble, and even with that it was a 5+ hour round. At various points, there were 3 groups on tee boxes, they were that painfully slow.

Our competition is Stableford based and Saturday was the lowest average points/player in our 24 year history.  And I certainly was a contributor to that.  Started with a lost ball in the rough about 10 feet to the right of the first fairway where there is zero trouble.

But hey, blessed to be playing, so I'll quit b*******.

IIRC, LIV gave him $30M of which $10M each went to NIU, Aurora University and the Kids Golf Foundation.

Yeah that's what I heard - but initially they asked and he said no, they threw some money and he still said no, they threw more and still no, then finally it was enough to say yes.

2 golf trips in the next 5 weeks and haven't touched a club since August lol.    Heading to South Bend in 2 weeks for a bit of a golf trip.  Not your typical trip in that we are staying at my buddy's house and spending most of our golf time sponging off him at SBCC.  One round at the Warren since it's biking distance from my buddy's house and one of our guys is an observant orthodox Jew so he can't ride in a car on Saturday.  Always tough to plan a trip with him, but he's in great shape and is happy to bike 4-5 miles to get to the course and then walk the course and bike another 4-5 miles back to the house.

Then first week of June I head to French Lick for a 12 person trip.  Stopover in Indianapolis for a round at the Fort and, more importantly, lunch at Shapiro's Deli.

Hoping to get in at least 9 holes in the next 2 weeks.

Hope everyone is doing well, haven't checked in here in a bit.   Is Arg still out there somewhere in his RV seeing the USA one golf course at a time?

How is that place?  Looks amazing and have it my plans if I ever do a trip to St George, but the locals on here all seem to diss it in terms of it's playability.

It's special. Sure it's tough, but there are plenty of boring old courses out there to choose from.

Haven’t been to Links and Tees in Addison in a few years. Has it been this bad for awhile?

No grass tees, chipping area is closed and the putting green is rolling about 5 with no real cups cut into it. What a dump

Yes, or at least for a year or two.  I stopped at Green Acres yesterday night and they have gone ALL in on the beer/hangout/gaming scene.  It was pretty surprising as I have been going there for over twenty years.  The grass tees were awful...probably better just to head over to a golf course and use their range (Ie: Schaumburg, Fox Run, Bloomingdale)

What a shame. I’ll probably just go to village links from now on but the lights at links were always nice.

I’ve read that golf is a good walk spoiled but a 5:15 tee time on a Thursday night as a walking single at Bittersweet is a bad walk ruined. Currently in the fairway on 9 at 8:00pm behind league play.

Going straight to the garage fridge when I get home.

Early morning at Prairie Landing.  Was expecting it to be drenched but the course was shockingly dry given the amount of rain we've had.   They were cutting the greens right ahead of us and they we're perfect.  Wind was brutal from the get go,  and up to 3 clubs by the end of the front 9   Pace was great at just a bit over 3 hours.  I could get used to this early AM thing.

Game is coming back with each round, but irons still are but what they should be.   Hitting greens but nothing close , and really having to work for par on those greens.   Bogies on 7 and 12 (my two least favorite holes there) and a solid finish playing the last 3 holes in over for a 78.

Aldeen and Glen Erin today with Bear. Aldeen was soaked, the breeze created a 2 club wind throughout, and the rough was thick and wet. That combined with pins that were all tucked in corners or behind ridges made scoring tough. Allergies were also killing me. Sneezing multiple times right before swinging is not recommended. I managed one birdie on 16 and played much better on the back to grind out a 76.

Glen Erin was not as firm as usual. There have been past years where, no matter how wet the Spring was, the fairways were always super firm. Not the case today. It was still in excellent shape but the wind made things tough. I played the front in 3 over and the back in 4 over for a 78 but couldn’t buy a birdie putt.

Sounds like a great trip, love both of those courses. Drive 30 minutes South and another course I like is Lincoln Hills in Ludington.

Played Poplar Creek on Saturday. Considering the amount of rain of the past week, things were in decent condition. Nice to play in bunkers that have actual sand. For some reason, on 17 of 18 holes, the pins were middle and mostly back.  Only the 18th hole had a front pin.  This is the 5th round with only 2-3 practice sessions squeezed in. Short game is coming back thankfully, but every driver swing is a little different. Have lost a ton of distance as well, hoping that comes back with time.

Worried about the pace after the two some we were paired with took nearly 30 minutes to play the second hole.  That was just ugly to watch, and spending 10 minutes trying to excavate yourself from a bunker had to be frustrating. Thankfully, they finally got the ready golf concept and we managed to finish in a few minutes under 4 hours. Poplar is a once a year course.

Played it 2 weeks ago and it’s def a once a yr course. Greens were AWFULLY slow, otherwise in good shape.

Just got back from playing 9 rounds in and around Scottsdale.
Loved the 90* cloudless days of desert golf.

Heading to South Bend this weekend for a weekend of golf.    Haven't touched a club since August.  Was going to play Sunday, but decided to focus my attention on getting new shoes and the best sounding golf cart speaker on the market (according to reviews I read).    Looking forward to hanging out with some good friends.

Friday:  36 at SBCC

Saturday:  The Warren

Sunday:  SBCC

Throw in some sim golf in my buddy's former dining room with Stanley Cup playoffs on the big screen and it's gonna be a great weekend.

Not sure if I should create raging jealousy in the Chi group, but Saturday I'm booked to play at the real home of golf, Tanna Farms.  Yes, THE TANNA FARMS. How did I get so lucky with getting a tee time? Guessing I PO'd my friend who booked TF as he knows I'm not a fan.

A live stream of the event would be good. Maybe by drone? LMK how much for the pay-per-view.
