Coyote Run did the same thing last time I was there.  I did ask the starter what the point was since the damage was already done, and I got looked at like I'm the crazy one.

Pine Meadow and White Deer Run today. Pine Meadow was great. The greens had been freshly rolled and I was out with the maintenance crew as the rest of the course was being cut. The greens actually had some good pace to them today and I always love the layout. It was ridiculously muggy for the first 12 or 13 holes and I was drenched in sweat despite it only being in the mid 70s. Then a little breeze came in and it was outstanding. I played pretty well. 74 with 2 birdies on 4 and 10. I also made a long putt to save bogey on 6 and another to save par on 18. 
 

I figured my best chance to get in another round was to stay close by so I booked White Deer Run. Not a fan. First, no walking rate. It’s not a hard walk by any means. Long, sure, but not hard. The fairways were overwatered, the greens were all pock marked and on the slow side, and none of the bunkers had rakes. Disappointing for $90. The course itself feels like Foxford if Foxford was pancake flat. I was hoping that it would feel more like White Hawk give they’re both housing development modern monstrosities designed by the same guy, but that’s not really the vibe I got. It also absolutely poured for the last 7 holes, though the rain didn’t really impact me that much. Another 74 with a chip in birdie on 11 and another birdie in the rain on 17.

Played Waveland (can’t call it Marovitz)…paired up with a nice older gent from TX visiting his 20 something son, along with my son.

6:30pm. His son launches a ball into Lake Michigan, proceeds to re-tee…starter comes running up “no mulligans, no mulligans!”  I told him it wasn’t a mulligan, he donated a ball to the lake.  Starter proceeds to tell us that he NEEDS to take stroke and distance.

 

I let him know that he has NO right to tell him where to hit his next shot, he said I do, it’s the rules. “I have a lot of people behind you ready to play.”

 

I said “No s***…it’s the 1st tee.”

 

I am also long friends with your boss.

 

Boss will be “rebraining”

This is the same starter/ranger that drove 250 yards down the middle of our fairway toward our tee, then asked why we haven’t all hit. 🙃

The amount of horrid golf the starter at the Wave sees makes my head hurt. But this is why 9 hole park district courses exist. I dunno. I’ll bet at least 20 other people all launched balls into the lake that day. By 6:30 you may have just caught him at the end of his rope.

I haven't been there in years, but if I remember the place correctly, that's one heck of an impressive slice to get one into the lake.     If they're worried about re-tee' and pace of play, might be time to throw a drop area up in the fairway 120 out.   You hit in the water   - next step is to go drop up there.   Why put that on the starter if it's a constant issue?    Some of these courses need to do a better job helping themselves out.

Lol. I dunno. I've played plenty of courses with holes that parallel the range, and I'm often astonished at how many range balls wind up in the middle of the fairway or in the right rough.

Isn't the stone wall between the course and lake Michigan OB? He kind of has to retee, unless there is a local rule in place and now he is playing 4 from the fairway? Or is that just the largest water hazard (penalty area)?

Yes, beyond the wall is the lake. This Summer it’s pretty warm though. Happy Gilmore says play it as it lies. 
Seriously, the starter was obviously wrong. But the story told gives off uncomfortably strong “I drive a Dodge Stratus” vibes.

Everyone who didn’t play because of the heat was out yesterday. Oh well. Shot even again, though I had so many great looks to finish under. Lipped out a 6 footer on 16, one rotation short on 17, burned edge on 18. It wasn’t to be.

not that there's anything wrong with the course. it's 100% a me problem lol
