Ping PLD Prime Tyne

Ping PLD Prime Tyne purchased - should be here later this week. Ping CS advised not to send it into them for work, lest I risk it being confiscated. No warranty for breakage either (I’ll take my chances). Ping confirmed it was built on the tour van for a PGA’er and it seemed they knew who, but wouldn’t disclose. More pics to follow once in hand and cleaned up. For now:

I did something like that with my latest purchase. Actually prefer the double Ben as I discovered with the short slant I had a tendency to aim right. Would still love one of these though.

Here’s a pic of mine..

Great putter but get it off the concrete!

Seller refunded my money in full and now will not respond...

I believe that they certainly had/have the putter, especially given the photos and prior conversation.

I am guessing that either Ping somehow intervened (should have kept quiet until in hand; inane regardless (if the case)) or someone else contacted the seller, offered more money, and the seller sold it out from underneath me.

Unfortunate, whatever the case.

I think you posting this was ypur downfall for sure. I can totally understand the excitement but i have a feeling the latter is true.

If the latter is the case, I wish the seller would have given me last look, as I certainly could have gone deeper into my pocket. Bummer, but the putter looked fairly used, and I would prefer a flange line anyway. I also am very keen on my PLD3s, putting exceptionally well with them (don't know if the Prime Tyne would have made the bag (and now won't)).

If someone here bought it instead, clean it up and post pictures, etc., once received. Won't bother me.

Ping's offerings (retail and "tour only") have me more excited than Scotty Cameron's CT putters (I only have one 009 left (that I will never sell)). Hopefully they release the unavailable PLDs soon.

Ping absolutely knows who this was made for. After you called they probably contacted that player and told him the putter is not to be sold and the player made sure the sale was terminated. I highly doubt any amount of money from you was going to be sufficient to get the putter. The player is probably in some hot water with Ping right now.

Disapprove if the case (and mostly not because of me not getting the putter).

You showed a picture of the serial #. It was probably from a college player, judging the first 3 letters being COL. I would imagine the players coach got a call about it. If it was a pro, I would bet they got a call from Ping as well. Ping is very proud of their equipment and actually retains ownership of the 1-of pieces they make for people. Sorry you missed out. Just goes to show, don't talk about it until you have it in hand! And never confirm the serial number with Ping!

Perhaps and evidently so. Had thought it could be an issue, but already figured this transaction was safe/a done deal. Obviously not the case.

If you are correct: so now instead of a decent player getting a few bills for a putter that they were presumably no longer using (and as they took the time to sell, could probably use/benefit from its proceeds (college loans/expenses, rent, mortgage, kids, bills - who knows)) with a Ping fan getting to own/try out something rare (I suggest such to be viral marketing hype to Ping's clientele and ultimately their financial benefit), corporate Ping flexes their strength and stops the sale, maybe even gets the putter back, and further turns off this avid retail Ping purchaser.

It's not as if this player was flipping gratis PLD putters - agreed that such would be ethically wrong. And it's not as if my possession of this putter would cause Ping any issues (rather the opposite). And it's not as if Cameron Champ has a side business hawking used clubs online.

Ping makes great products, but I am not fond of all of their business practices, especially if you are correct here.

Can’t you just call someone like Morton Golf and get a quote? I thought the deal with Ping is they’ll generally do whatever you want but it might be spendy to get it done.

No, not currently the case for “tour” Ping PLD putters. I’d gladly currently pay Ping 10x their retail putter prices for a PLD built as I want (message me if of interest, Ping, as I know you’re watching this thread), but such is likely not the norm.

Ping should setup something like Toulon (and not like their prior PLD program) - they’d do well.

If the college golfer in question was playing for a major Division I school, he probably received the putter at no charge.

For sure. Based on seller’s location - if the case - I am confident of which university at that (D1 and a very good team). The other thing I thought was perhaps that it was stolen and Ping intervened. Guess we will never know.

I don’t for this specific situation, but disagree with some of their business decisions and practices. Their company though, not mine.
