Yes but unfortunately during December is also one of the most expensive in the city and not worth it IMO.

Definitely agree there. They will sometimes have good twilight rates in the winter and have hot deals though.

For summer conditions this year I would rate Starr Pass 3rd of the courses I have played behind Sewaillo and Ventana which is about where their rates are. Sometime in the not too distant past it seems to me that someone in control at Starr Pass took a hard line on how deep to discount "hot deals "during any season. Since my standard is $1.50 per hole I mostly play tennis in the winter.

Sewailo, Starr Pass, Tucson National. That time of year, bring your wallet.

The two city courses at Randolph are considerably cheaper, and much less desert style. They have held PGA and LPGA events in the past, so while they are not quite top shelf, they are not goat tracks. If I was visiting and looking for decent golf without breaking the bank (maybe between days at more exclusive tracks), they would be a good choice. Another interesting option is Del Lago, southeast of Tucson. I haven't played it recently, but I have talked to people that have. It went through a down time condition wise, but what I was told is that it is back to being good. It's pretty challenging, and has some pretty attractive (visually) holes, in my opinion. There are also some decent courses in Green Valley (San Ignacio, Torres Blancas, Canoa Ranch). Again, they are not at the top but they are enjoyable to play.

Del Lago gets a lot of hate buts it’s one of the toughest tracks out here in the Tucson area, esp when the wind is blowing. Winter time is great for the city courses and like you said, a fraction of the price of the resorts. While I enjoy Tucson national I don’t think it’s worth the price during the winter time.

 

Sewailo is probably the cheapest non city course and it’s also in the best shape. Canoa Ranch is a tough track too! Haven’t played there in a few years though since they went through their change of ownership etc.

Canoa Ranch is perplexing! It seems short, and shouldn't be hard, but it beats me up. Especially 18! Though I need to play there this summer, with a cooperating 5 wood, perhaps I can not get killed!

I'm not sure any of the resort courses are worth what they want in the winter, but living here, I we get to avoid that!

I kind of equate it a bit to like how Enke is. Both are just pure desert golf that will just punish the heII out of you if you’re game isn’t on point.

Totally agree, and at my level that's most days! I pass on Fred Enke almost every time. It hurts too much!
