Miami May 2020, Help pls.

10 Players coming over from the Uk, we are staying by South Beach. I am looking through the minefield of courses so I am after advise which ones to play.

Plantation Preserve, Deer Creek, Jacaranda x2, Pembroke Lakes, Hollybrook, Miami Shores, Normandy Shore, Crandon, Miami Beach.

We are playing 3 maybe 4 rounds, which are the pick to play or have missed any quality ones out. Im not after paying 200 dollar etc at Doral.

Also is South beach good for 10 fellas age 35-42 for the nightlife, advise on that be good as well thanks.

I'm personally a big fan of jacaranda and plantation preserve. if youre staying near south beach, deer creek is a trek. hollybrook is sloooooooooooow. would not recommend. i've heard normany shore and crandon are great. i also recommend Melreese.

 

i think with any location, when you go out itll be mostly younger folks out there but doesn't mean guys your age can't have a good time. not sure what your group is looking for but south beach is mainly clubs

Miami Beach is a great track.

Crandon will drink your milkshake.

I live down here and golf 3xs a week.....

 

Plantation Preserve = good course, but very dull. I actually hate going there.

Deer Creek = good track & nice layout. Plays there once, thought it was overrated.

Jacaranda x2 = good courses. One of my favorite places to play.

Pembroke Lakes = never played there.

Hollybrook = semi-private, decent track.

Miami Shores = I like it there, but nothing special.

Normandy Shore = resort golf....back and forth. Went once and will never go back.

Crandon = don't believe the "overlooking downtown", there are mangroves blocking your view and no wind. Super hot & humid out there. Doubt I'd go back.

Miami Beach = expensive, but a gem!

 

Try Melreese & Biltmore. You can also golf Trump "Golden Palm" for a lot cheaper than Blue Monster.

Im in Parkland, so I stay up this way more often (Boca). Boca is about an hour north of SB.

Agree with the comment above about Crandon. They were still recovering from the rains and flooding from a hurricane but charging normal price. Views of downtown aren’t there. If it was half price I may think about playing it again.

Doral was nice if you are into the opulence but expect to pay for it at the bar. $20 Manhattans. Red Tiger and Silver Fox were a lot of fun to play. Didn’t bother with Blue Monster.

Headed back down in a couple weeks to play Jacaranda Deer Creek and Emerald Hills. PM me if you want to know details of that trip. Got a group of guys aged 35-75 with handicaps from 4-24.

Jacaranda is nice. Emerald Hills is pretty good, but difficult. I wouldn't bother with Deer Creek. I'd rather play Osprey Point.

Both are nice, but I like the east a little more. The layout flows better.

Either one is a winner....not like one is a dump or executive course :)

The number one question is what’s your budget?

Value: Miami Springs (cheap and in 4* condition), Palmetto , Shula’s , Killian greens (new mgmt and I’m hearing praises from a former cow pasture), Miccosukee.

Mid-tier and Up (going to likely run you $100+): Miami Shores, Miami Beach, Normandy, Biltmore, Melreese, Doral, Crandon Park. 

This is pretty much all of the accessible courses in Miami that are 18 holes. I left out CC of Miami (heard some bad news out of there lately).

Driving in Miami is a nightmare for out of towners but I recommend you get a rental car. There is no real public transportation to get anywhere. Just get the full coverage insurance.

Most courses are on Golfnow/TeeOff so you can grab a hot deal and save considerable $.

If you’re going to leave the county and head north then I second the Jacaranda recommendations and Osprey Point in west boca. I would also throw Emerald Hills in there. There aren’t many tracks in Broward that you can’t get the same experience from in Miami.

Miami Springs golf course is close to the airport, Melreese is over $120

I played Melreese on Saturday. The course was in fantastic shape. The fairways were perfect and the greens were true. It was in the best shape I have seen in the last 5 years. It is less that a mile from the Miami Airport. I highly recommend it.

Now we are getting closer and 6 month on, are any of the courses in poor condition and to avoid after storms etc, or are they all playing nice.

 

Another question I didn't ask is when do you guys do the major green work as I dont want to book if they have just been worked on.

I hate to hijack but don't see the need for a new thread. Is golf still open in Miami? I'll be there starting late June for two months.

I know courses in Broward are starting to re open this week so I would imagine Miami will be similar over the next few weeks.

Just finished three months in Miami . Only played two courses due to no car...

 

Melreese after 1 for $55: when I first got there it was in excellent shape. Course was very very tough (13 ish hc). Coming from AZ was not used to so may things like wind proper sand etc. They punched halfway through my stay and I only played a few more times.

 

Miami springs $40:  this course isn't nearly as tough or in as good of condition as Melreese but I played here more because I could get around in about 2 hours by myself. Was empty towards the beginning of my stay then filled up before I left. Great budget option.
