43” g400 max driver shaft

I want to play my g400 max at 43 to 43.5 inches after experimenting with cutting down the tour 65x shaft it came with. For reasons I don’t understand after testing it i am able to swing it a few mph faster than my pro orange 70tx playing at 45”

 

Im not a big fan of the ping tour 65x, tip seems unstable and the club feel overly light. I was thinking something like a hzrduz black 80 gram 6.5 might work well? Thoughts?

 

My second question is would a g400 fairway shaft adapter fit in the g400 max driver? Im assuming playing length would be slightly longer in a driver vs a 3 wood

I've played 70-75 g range shafts at the driver playing length (43-43.5").

Might need some extra tipping.

I think 80 g would be ok as well.

Have you added any weight to the head after cutting down the shaft?

I haven’t messed with he head weight, i game the 45” 99% of the time but the 43.5” inch feels correct to me. I don’t get stuck as often, would like to try a 41.5 4 wood as well

I play 80 g shafts in my 41.5” 4 and 5 woods

Generally I think it is a good starting place to just build it like a 3-wood. Start with something at least 10g heavier than what you would normally use and leave some room to tip it if you decide to add head weight. I am actually planning something similar with a Ping G400 head at around 44" that i'll be using an 80g shaft in.

All G400 tips are the same, fairway and driver shafts can be swapped.

Very nice, so if i found a nice heavy g400 3 wood shaft it should work nicely.

yes. and I'd recommend trying some lead tape.

I too was fine playing my cut down woods and hybrids, didn't think I "needed" or would benefit from additional head weight.

But then I tried a little lead tape and that was a real "aha" moment.
