Your most unpopular Golf opinions?

This always causes negative feedback: Big name equipment companies should develop and market non-conforming equipment. Most golfers should use easier playing non-conforming equipment.

 

Not everyone, in fact the majority of all golfers, don't need competition sanctioned equipment. It's in the numbers most golfers never break 100, don't play tournament golf, and don't register their handicap, why should they have not be able to have name brand equipment that is easier to play. Golf would become a lot more accessible and fun for many. I know that it is chicken and egg because at the same time consumers have to get over themselves thinking they need the same stuff as pros. Start with easier equipment and work up to conforming equipment when you are able and need to.

1) I think music on the course is just fine as long as it isn't crazy loud.

2) The snooty image of golf is a big part of what is preventing growth in the game today, Tiger made it cool for a time, we need another new and different injection of cool.

3) Par is just a number and nobody has to play a course the way the architect intended it to achieve their best score.

4) Golf is boring in general to watch, and the amount of boring is unchanged since it was first put on television.

5) Graphite iron shafts are awesome and are only frowned upon and overlooked due to ego.

6) Professional golfers today are better on average than the players of the past in almost every measurable way.

7) Strict dress codes on golf courses are stupid and need to be relieved.

8) Iron head covers are smart.

9) Everyone can and should play blades, they will force you to practice more.

10) OB rules are stupid, it should always be played the same as a hazard.

-the game would be in a better spot for modern times if 12 holes was considered norm years ago.

 

- PGA golf isnt really fun to watch for me as well as any casuals. Large drives dont translate well to TV as well as small wedge shots. I'd rather watch a smaller drive with a more dramatic approach shot. They allowed the game to become a bad TV product.

 

-Before my time as a golfer but I agree with the sentiment the golf world didnt do enough to stop the ball tech and driver head size and tech in the 2000s.

 

-I support the rollback.

Forgot to add...

 

-Every tournament in North American culture skewing so much to simple scrambles. There are such better formats out there.

 

-Casual play in NA would be a lot better adopting the international standard of Stableford for non serious rounds.

 

-stroke play leads to bad pace of play

Golf is played from the tee to the green not the other way around. Learn how to get off the tee box first and consistently. You'll enjoy the round, nothing looks more foolish and idiotic than going OB off the tee box.

 

You are who you are, no matter how hard you try and practice you are limited by DNA. Fact

 

Follow up from the top one, acceptance is your friend. Some guys don't have to practice much to beat you, deal with it.

 

Play to your strengths. If you are great at driving and terrible iron player, keep working you driver and make it a weapon to be dealt with. Most of us have jobs and families, habits and other hobbies. Stick to your strengths and make them even better

 

Balls do make a huge difference, other equipment not so much

 

Take a valium before you play, you'll do much better

 

Drink beer, but no more than 3 pints throughout a round of 18....

 

Accept who you are and improve that person, not some crazy unrealistic version

 

Play courses that fit your game. Loose off the tee, play courses with big fairways. If you can't put, find flat greens. Enjoy the game number 1

 

Stop buying equipment, you look like an idiot and your game doesn't improve. (There are exceptions)

 

Lessons are good for children, adults you missed the boat.

 

Parent's invest in your childrens golf and not yourself. You already had your day you didn't make it, they might. Spend more time on them.

Every round of golf should be limited to 3.5 hrs, max.

Carts are for the physically disabled, "only."

Modern golf pros have too much help. It's 50% tech, in every aspect & 50% talent.

LEARN etiquette, including no jumping on number 10 w/ play as close as number 8.

Modern day golf sucks; it's a real hassle to get a round in these days. Too many S-L-O-W groups.

Did I mention that slow golfers suck? Bowlers have taken over golf courses.

1. I’d love to see carts outlawed unless you have a medical flag.

2. I’d love to see net competitions all but abolished. Make the norm gross comp , flight it based on tees played and run what you brung.

3. Bring back metal spikes. Or at least make the hybrid stinger version easier to get.

4. Buy back program for all mallet putters , none to be sold again.

5. Ban music on course.

Easy there. Carts and tunes take it to another level on a Friday with the fellas. Even the pros enjoy both when it's leisure golf. Tourney time, fine, no mas. Completely agree with the other three.

* All golfers should wear a tweed wool gray suit while playing a round at least once in their life, like Old Tom Morris did. If nothing else, they would learn to appreciate their deodorant more...

* When you change shoe cleats, save those little grass swirls that get stuck around the old ones and give them to your gluten-free sister-in-law as a gift. She will put them in her salad thinking they are a delicacy.

* Golfers who wear a hole in the palm of your glove- don't throw them away, _you_ are who duct tape was made for...

I'm on the fence about whether carts are bad in general...mid-summer temps in the US can be pretty brutal.

 

However, I 100% think carts should be outlawed for any competitive round. My local golf association allows carts. It breaks my heart to see 15 year old kids riding in carts in our city tournament.

*All tournaments/competitive events should be gross scoring only. If you want to compete, practice and get better, don’t sandbag net events and hose honest golfers.

*Music on the golf course improves the round, and there is nothing better than a great song starting just before an important stroke.

*Raw clubs look terrible.

*The best decision a serious golfer will make is joining a private club. Nothing beats being able to play whenever you want and sub 3 hour rounds, and the big club events (member guest, member member, etc.) are the most fun you’ll have all year.

*Being able to leave the flag in was a good rule change.

*No other golf ball is as consistent around and on the green than a ProV1 / ProV1x -- and it's not even close.

Bomb and gouge golf is boring to watch. These guys are professionals, they should be penalized if they can't find a fairway. Courses don't need to be made longer, just smarter.

Brooks Koepka is full of himself and becoming a bigger weenie than even Bryson Dechambeau.

Music is not the devil on the golf course...especially at slow play muni's where some light music can help keep an even keel(just don't be the jerk blasting it loud)

People who brag about retro lofts and then wine about someone playing with modern technology, have serious ego problems. Who cares how far or what club someone else hits.

While a static fitting is a good baseline, most beginners should not get a "full fitting". People should wait until they have at least a somewhat repeatable swing for the fitting process to help.

Getting properly fit for a putter is severely under-rated(provided you have a repeatable putting stroke)

Phil Mickelson is a bigger douche than most people realize.

Current equipment and the ball are not the problem. Don't change the game because a few freaks of nature can crush the ball. If you roll back equipment or the ball, that distance divide will just get larger.
