Quit forcing your wives/girlfriends that can't or don't want to golf to play with you.  Find some friends or play alone.  Last weekend almost every dude had a woman with them.  Most of them was terrible and so freakin slow.  The one in front of me couldn't get her tee in the ground and had to have help on every hole.

Oh, and by the way my daughter plays with me, but she wants to play (4-year letterman) and can play fast.

I'm wondering if it's the husbands/boyfriends asking them to play or if its the girls insisting on joining otherwise the guys don't get to play on the weekend.

Probably a combo of both, and I get it. The time commitment for a hobby is large. 4 hr round. 20 min drive each way you're over 5hr if you warm up on the range.

Luckily my gfs whole family sans her golfs so there was no shock on how long it takes.

The group in front of us this past weekend (all early 20s) included the girlfriend of 1 of the guys. She would hit off the tee (whites) flub it, pick up her ball, ride to his ball, drop, hit, flub it. Rinse and repeat for the entire round. I give them credit for the pick up and drop but after 9 holes she clearly wasn't enjoying herself anymore.

Before taking up golf, my wife rode as a spectator about half a dozen times over several years. One day she decided to try the putting green. Then she tried the range. Then we took a group lesson together. She grew into wanting to play rather than "I have to do this to spend time with my husband".

When I met my wife I was still in a place where my kids were young, so I barely played. When we had the kids, the kids dominate everything. When we didn't have the kids, I wanted to spend time with her, not on the golf course. After 4 years together, and once COVID hit, we went to go see her parents and I knew her dad was a big golfer so we decided to play since that was the only thing we could do. It reminded me of why I love the game, so I got back into it.

Still wanting to spend time with her on the kid-free weekends, we went back and forth over whether she might want to pick up the game. But it was one day that she said something to me that made me stop that entire line of discussion:

Quote

"I don't like doing things I'm not good at."

Well then stay the hell away from golf! I've been doing it >30 years and I still suck!

So now I go out on Sunday mornings and play golf, and she lounges with our golden retriever and catches up on all the shows she never has time to watch.

Very real. When it’s 90°+ and humid, it’s way too much of a slog to be walking for 4 hours

Idk how unpopular this is but I absolutely can’t stand golf carts and more so the way people use them. Walking is a part of the game and aside from people who need them due to a physical limitation, carts just create a rushed experience. I’m so sick of people parking carts at or near the collar of the green because they’re too lazy to walk 20 yards after driving the cart for the first 460 yards of the hole. The amount of times I’m playing a chip from a totally flattened lie because the grass has been beaten to absolute s*** from carts is maddening

That seems like a pretty good reason there...

I'm almost positive you're exaggerating as well about having flatten lies as well. Most course make it impossible to even get that close to the green.

ha ha ha, I dip my Wilson BeCu wedge in coke every other month. I would never do it to Ping Putters

unpopular: I really enjoy walking 18 when it’s warm like that.

I just did it this afternoon and even though it was really uncomfortable in the near 90° heat, I got the same satisfaction that I get when I finish a nice run in the heat, and probably the same amount of sweat 😂

I had to laugh at that. I know the thread is Unpopular Golf Opinions. Me personally I am not a spit and polish guy more like lead tape, bag chatter and Patina type. But I will say honestly I could care less if someone polishes their clubs and uses fancy ferrules.

its fun to see my wedge very bright for like 4 days. Its just something to do. Also I like cola / soda in small doses, 8 ounces is more than enough. Clean the clubs up, have a treat. I prefer coffee

Believe it or now when I was in the Navy we used old coffee to clean deck plates in the engineering spaces. LOL my comment is not to be misconstrued. I do keep my clubs clean and wipe my irons after every shot. Since I play the signature set 3 times or more a week I clean my grips weekly. But as a whole my old irons have dings and bag chatter which does not bother me along with lead tape.

My Hickory clubs I use on the Par3 have original leather wrap grips and they are cleaned and oiled after every weekly round.

On rusty stuff I have acquired I have my own mix of white vinegar and Coca Cola.

Right its great for rusty stuff. I would NOT want my old ping putters bright, I'd never do it. I respect other people shine them but I would not like that in the sun and I like the "old" look.

I beg to differ 😅

Maybe we should get our own courses strictly for lefties.

Having the weight on the toe of a driver will make the club head closer easier. Maybe people are actively trying to fight it but it’s just physics

Actually it's the other way around.  Draw biased drivers have more weight near the heel.  Weight on the toe tends to open the face...
