Having the weight on the toe of a driver will make the club head closer easier. Maybe people are actively trying to fight it but it’s just physics

Don’t tell TaylorMade then, because they’ve apparently got the moveable weights in the wrong position on the Qi10…

To help reduce spin axis (aka “side spin”) the first thing you want to do is put any adjustable weight into the heel side of the club. A lot of OEMs have this marked as the draw weight setting, and whether it’s marked on the driver or not, it’s the placement that puts the weight closer to the shaft side of the head. This setting can improve draw, induce gear effect and make it easier to close the club face.

Maybe we should get our own courses strictly for lefties.

One of our mods @Buzzkill stated recently he has taken playing left handed now and he is naturally a righty. Over the years on here according to his WITB posts he has played a variety of stuff from modern to classic

That’s interesting. I used to swing right handed before I really got into golf and just enjoyed hitting balls. There’s no way I could do that now, it wouldn’t be pretty.

29 days in and I can hit some sweet draws BUT I’ve got some duffer shots still.  Swing still feels foreign, my speed isn’t there yet, l’m one to two clubs shorter.  Playing/learning on a par 29 executive course with my low round of 31 so far.  Leaving shortly to play 2 rounds, told my buddies I’d shoot par in 30 days, time running out, lol!

Lol that's awesome! I would struggle with just making contact with the ball if I switched sides. Good luck today!

Unpopular opinion:

You should play the upmost tees until you break 100, then move back one until you break 90, back again when you break 80. The game is hard enough, don’t let vanity get in the way of having a good time.

I'm not even sure this is truly unpopular. Maybe "divisive" is the right word. Too many players play too long a course.

My home course recently added some new back tees and stretched out the middle two sets of tees to sort of fill the gap. It has not been a good change for pace of play because no one is moving up a set.

And of course the USGA is hellbent on effectively lengthening courses with their ball nerf.

My unpopular opinion: caddies shouldn't exist at the amateur level.

And on certain courses, nor should power carts.  You either carry or roll your bag.  But there is an argument for caddies, for the amateur, at certain courses.

I'm very anti-cart too but I do always think there's a place for accommodating players who really can't walk (and of course just beyond the philosophical appreciation for accommodating people who need it... the ADA and various state laws would come into play here too).

Two for today...

People who say fifty-one instead of one-fifty-one are douches.  Are you saving any time by leaving off the first digit?

Most guys who take the blue flags are plenty capable of walking from the cart paths and are just lazy and/or selfish.  Some courses around me don't give out blue flags to anybody anymore and those jerks ruined it for the ones who actually need them.

Totally agree.  I use a power cart on occasion when the knee goes out. But I prefer to walk, for the exercise and the aesthetics.

If the guy says 51 I'm hitting my 68 degree wedge. And then I'm breaking his putter.

I'm not familiar with blue flag rules, sounds like they can take carts when others can’t? What exactly does a blue flag indicate?

It's a blue handicap flag.  I'm not sure of how you qualify for one or what specifically it allows you to do. I've seen them around locally.

I see them occasionally here.  The most common use is a guy I know in the Men's Club at the course I play.  He's an above the knee amputee.  The other couple times I've seen it, two guys with serious heart issues, one of them with cancer.

A guy who used to play with us who always took a cart due to knee issues never got the blue flag.

Very small sample size, but that's what I've seen at "my" course.

Some local courses don’t allow walking at all, too much distance between tees and creates back ups. Walking around a lake from t to t can take 6 to 10 minutes easily.

They are supposed to be for truly handicap people.  They allow you to drive everywhere on the course and sometimes the guys drive right up to the greens where they can step from the fringe to their cart seat.  They also usually get their own cart.  Whatever you think of this, the issue is otherwise... people who don't even need them ask for them and the courses hand them out.  A few courses have stopped offering them all together which sucks for the real handicapped people.  It is more of an issue on cart path only days (rain or winter) when nearly everybody out there has a blue flag and some of them can do cartwheels getting into their cars when unload.

I agree that some ruined it for others but if a course refuses Handicapped flags under normal course conditions then they may be in violation of the ADA act. Now if it is CPO they can refuse due to abnormal course conditions.

Basically in the State of SC you qualify for a Handicapped License tag or mirror hanger on your car then you qualify. It is a slippery slope here. I have never heard of anyone at a bag drop ask to see proof of being handicapped legally. like @jda stated some not really needing it have abused it for others

Another fresh unpopular opinion that would get me tarred and feathered in the rules subforum.

Out of bounds shouldn't exist in golf in almost any case. The rules for white stakes should be the same as red stakes except you are not allowed to play your ball from the penalty area.

I'm sure OOB made sense at some point but now that so many golf courses have houses 6 yards off the fairway, it is overly penal.

Well (unpopular opinion alert!) the rule junkies include a number of golfers who fetishize difficulty and history. And aren't interested in anything that makes sense.

Stroke and distance should just always be an option alongside dropping along the ball flight into the penalty area. You want to re-tee and take a penalty stroke? Knock yourself out. Want to drop one along the path of the ball and take a penalty stroke? Knock yourself out. But history or something stupid.

Most of the resort courses have "local rules" on that as in take a stroke and drop. They also have drop areas on the green side of a hazard. The reason simply is to speed up play

I'd almost say confusing.

One course by me has a sign for tees based on HC or avg score. Another course has it be average driver distance, and a third by average 5 or 6 iron distance.
