Gotta totally disagree with this.  I’ve tried this and discovered that it’s a good way to destroy the shafts on your driver and fairway woods by your iron’s banging into them all day.  You can get to every club easily with your driver and woods in the front of the bag, i.e. near the grab handle., if you just get your lengths organized right.  Also, the way that I and most other folks do it, the wedges lay nicely under the mid irons, rather than just banging into them like they do in the picture above.

The mistake I see a lot of people making with smaller carry bags is not downsizing their headcovers.  The reason a lot of people can’t see their irons is because they’ve got lampshades on all their woods.  Get some low profile, non pleated covers if you’re carrying in a small 4 or 6 way bag.

I have had this setup for 35 years.  Have walked 500+ rounds.  Never an issue with shafts, and my driver and 3 wood are 5 years old.

I use a towel to minimize bag chatter. A setup where longer are on bottom creates a wall for towel and protects the shafts too. A perk is towels don’t fall off as much with this, which has always been and issue for me. Mind I’m using beach towels for full snaking, I’m going  augment one with a split and clasping to anchor to handle but I find that when grabbing the most used clubs it is much easier stacking them in reverse of what is deemed normal.

Welp, came across duffers off back tees , playing a round 40 minutes longer than need be yesterday, lol. Guy on toughest part 4 had 300 to green, waited till it cleared to hit  a ball from deep rough all to see it plunk in water 160 yards ahead. Comical it was. I did not let it bother me, and played well considering state of game but geez I have not seen this delusion in decades. The kicker is they were both older men, around 50 age wise. Unbelievable.

I used to play a certain course with two buds who would call ahead at the turn and order big grilled Polish sausages on a bun.  Scorewise I might have been trailing them at the turn but afterwards, in their lethargic stupors, they were easy pickin's.

I had to play behind a 4some like that who were in the league ahead of mine. They were in their 30's. Played from the tips and couldn't drive it 200. They were in the  mob though, so no one said a thing.

I said something to one on the putting green once about the weather. Dirt eye. So only once. The A team and the B team were killing each other off at the time and those guys just wanted to relax.

1.) Walking is often faster than carting, dependent on course layout.

2.) Collared shirts on the golf course need to go the way of the dodo bird.

3.) Rakes should be kept 3-5 feet outside the bunker

4.) Continuous putting (e.g. putt until you hole out) should be a thing (*I'm not totally sold on this but like it for the most part*)

3.) So your ball can ricochet off the rake and into the bunker?

4.) Unless you end up taking your stance in somebody's line.

In practice, I prefer them in the bunker just so don't have to look all over for it. Or have to walk clear around or through it to get the rake.  But we leave them out at our place generally, as directed by staff.

I think they're less intrusive in the bunker too. A rake out of the bunker is more likely,  imo, to deflect a ball in, or stop a ball such that you're standing in and the ball is out. If the ball and rake interact in the bunker, just move the rake and hit.  Likely the ball won't move.

Absolutely.  They do all that pointless stuff but often don't bother to look at the putt from the other side.  Nuts.

I don't lift it unless asked or if it's clearly dirty.

Same here, about marking. I think they once saw it on TV. You know how we golfers are, we copy all that crap. Now excuse me while I go practice my AimPoint.

99% of all golfers and caddies organize clubs in the bag the wrong way.   The best way is shown below.

Easy access to all clubs.  The other way the longer clubs are blocking the shorter clubs, both when walking and when on a cart.

20241018_171519.jpg

If you do it this way, by law you should be forced to make your irons wear headcovers.

C'mon, man, it's just sun protection. The other way they get a nice cover of shade from the woods. This way they're in direct sun.

I wouldn't want to have to report your to the USGA for golf club cruelty.

I think that all able-bodied adults should walk instead of riding golf carts. Using manual or electric push carts is acceptable.

There may be exceptions if weather becomes a significant factor like temperatures over 90°F or higher or if the course is not suited for walking like mountain courses with significant elevation changes.

I've tried the continuous putting approach recently during one of my league tournaments and apparently one guy in our flight thought it wasn't right and got really pissed.

He thought I was playing out of turn but my tournament director took my side and actually encouraged finishing putts as long as it is within 4 feet or less.

That guy had been playing a lot more tournaments than me but still had no clue about continuous putting.

Continuous putting is impolite in an organized stroke play event, hence my unpopular opinion that it should be a regular thing in stroke play.

I prefer match play anyhow, don’t try continuous putting there.

I think continuous putting is fine, it helps to speed up the game, but one should never step in another's line. Then you mark and pick up the ball, and wait.

And yes, in match play your putt can be recalled if you putt out of turn.

I agree and I don't continue putting if I might be stepping on another golfer's line.

I also announce before hand that I'd be putting out as a courtesy to the other golfers in my flight.
