I disagree.. Stop for drinks and let the groups behind play thru.

No. If you're behind, catch up. Letting people through is good for the groups that are being let through, but it doesn't help the flow of the course. Each "play through" scenario on a crowded course just gums things up farther back as letting a group through takes more time than not. Keeping up with the group in front of you does help the flow of the course.

Sorry if you work in the legal profession and I offend, but there are simply too many lawyers in the world. I've now played close to 1400 courses, and don't ever recall seeing a warning sign about using a tunnel. Oy veh.

Everyone in the legal profession---I am one as well---is agreeing with you.  There are too many lawyers, and too many misguided people believing that stupidity and loss from same, needs to be rewarded.

That said, as noted by others in the thread, if there wasn't an incident blamed on a tunnel being a tunnel, there'd be no sign.

Depending on who I am paired up for the day I can end up being embarrassed when the cart girl pulls up to my foursome. I play in a group of 12 mid sixties guys. We have two guys that flirt like crazy when the cart girl pulls up. I end up apologizing sometimes to the cart girl because of them. I'll tell them after she pulls away do you really think a young girl is going to be interested in a bunch of old men? And then we have the cheap guy. He recently bought a Gatorade from the cart girl because he forgot to bring his drink with him. The Gatorade was $3.50. He gave the girl $4 and stood there waiting for his change. When the girl figured out he was standing there waiting for his change she says I am sorry I am out of change. He replies when you get some change you can bring it back to me. When we finished the round and she hadn't come back yet he went into the clubhouse to complain and get his 50 cents back.

I'm laughing because this sort of thing

has happened to literally everyone in the hospitality industry.

You just have to laugh, and thank God, you don't have to live in that guy's pathetic skin.  As bad as working hotels, restaurants, resorts can be, at least we're not as pathetic as that guy.

Interesting that the signs go up after the mishap.  After the litigation.  The pro shop should have you sign a disclaimer before they let you on the course:  "I will not do anything stupid on the course, and if I do I will accept full blame for my stupidity".

There are follow-up stories about "that guy"... you just need to back up a page or two.  They are priceless.

You left out what else I said: People like that don't care if they are that far behind and certainly don't care holding you up while they stop with the cart girl.

I would agree with you. You are behind..can't stop...Maybe someone in a slow group might say we can't stop because we are behind. I very much doubt it. Telling someone you can't stop for the cart girl because you are behind is not going to go over well either. Since the group is  stopping why not let the group behind play through.

I had that exact scenario this past summer. My foursome was behind a group that became a 1  1/2 holes behind. We were waiting behind by the tee box while they teed off. They ride off and here comes the cart girl. She pulls off to the side and the foursome rides over for drinks. We said the H with this and we teed off. We ride by them going to our drives and the one guys says hey what are you guys doing? I said did you really have time to stop for drinks being so far behind? The guy has a look on his face and said go ahead and go.

I don't see us playing through instead of waiting for those guys to get drinks and flirt with the cart girl is messing up the flow of the course one bit. They were not waiting on us to play our next shots. The were still with the cart girl.

Haha...I am going to give you one from the vault.

Around 20 years ago I use to play in a group and so did this guy. We use to play 18 in the morning, stop for lunch, and play 18 at a different course in the afternoon. The four of us rode together and this guy was with us. It was a very hot day and the guy driving had a cooler in the back of his truck. We pull into a BBQ place after our first 18 and get out of the truck to go in. This guy asks the driver if he can get a drink out of his cooler to take in with him. After some discussion on why since we are going into a place that offers drinks the driver says go ahead. Everyone usually laughs at him and he does what he wants.

The waitress seats us. We all get a BBQ sandwich, fries, and three of us get an iced tea. He asks for a cup of ice for his soda he has brought in with him. We finish up and the waitress brings over our checks. After seeing our bills we were discussing what a great meal we had for such a cheap price. Mr. cheapo then speaks up and says wait a minute my bill is the same as you guys and I didn't get a drink. He calls the waitress over and says I think you made a mistake on my bill. I didn't get a drink. She replies there is no mistake. Drinks are free but we charge everyone for the cup and ice. He starts to stutter he is so worked up. He says you should have told me drinks are free I wouldn't have had to bring my own drink in with me. We are laughing so hard. I know I laughed so hard I about peed my pants. After she walks away he says well I am not leaving her a tip. I replied I think she won't miss your usual $1 tip you leave.

I bet she got one of the best tips ever from the three of us. The show was worth the additional tip we left.

Your guy might just qualify as the cheapest butthole on the planet. You might want to put a call into the Guinness World Book of Records.

Honestly, I groan whenever I see a smoking hot girl driving the drink cart when we’re standing on the first tee on a public course.  Adds 30-60 minutes to any round.  Ideally drink cart drivers should either be guys, or stern, serious women who don’t enjoy small talk.  I picture the perfect cart girl as Nurse Ratched.

Which brings me to my other [potentially] unpopular opinion...

If you're not literally crawling up the colon of the group in front of you, you don't get to order mixed drinks from the cart girl. Order a couple beers that she merely has to pull out of the cooler. Because not every cart girl is as smart about PoP as those at @Warrior42111's course.

You can wait until after the round for your Cosmo, Ms. Bradshaw.

Beverage cart craziness is the WORST.

Place I’m playing here this week is great. Big active membership, everyone knows the cart girls, they are cool too, no weirdness or awkwardness or pace holdup, it’s not complicated.

At my place we don’t run a bev cart, just the halfway house after #10. If you can’t play 10 (or 8!) holes of golf without eating or drinking, you’ve got issues.

I get it. Beverage carts are a profit center. I'd simply like to see a little more common sense with respect to how they're utilized. Worst behavior is parking near the greens. Group walks off the green and spends 10 minutes socializing while the group behind waits. Park the drink carts near the teebox so three players can hit while one gets drinks.

Ditto the drink cart stopping in the fairway or on the cartpath halfway to the hole. Sorry, but you simply can't stop the entire course while a foursome orders Bloody Mary's at 8 am on a Saturday morning.

Speaking of Bloody Mary's, why not have a few prepared and ready to go? It's not like they're uncommon on a weekend.

I don’t blame the girl running the cart, and if a group in front of me plays 10 minutes slower because of a couple bev cart visits, I’m losing no sleep over being out there 10 additional minutes.

It’s the creep show behavior from some players that is so uncomfortable. It’s the worst, I don’t want to be part of that.

Pretty sure I played in an annual tournament with one of those guys. Don’t remember if I already posted it but…

The tournament is usually a dozen guys and hold 4 dinners each year. In an effort to keeps things simple, the check is split evenly. Period. One of the first year guys was warned in advance when he ordered just a cheese burger and a couple Coors light. He thought they were joking until they asked him for $80. Ouch.

So “that guy” (and I’m not exaggerating any of this) orders 3-5 top shelf drinks, several appetizers, 2 FULL entrees and several desserts every freaking night! When the bill comes he insists on using his rewards card and asks everyone for cash.

We have to watch him like hawk or the poor waitress will get 5% or less. He’s also the guy that climbs a mountain or descends a cliff to retrieve his errant top flight.

Even worse, people who get mad at you if you do finish out instead of marking.

That actually happened to me in a tournament. I opted to putt out after leaving my putt 3 feet short gain over 20 feet away and my flight mate got pissed for supposedly finishing out of turn.

My tournament director sided with me as putting out instead of marking helps with the pace of play.

Whenever I putt out I'm also mindful of not stepping on the putting path of the other players in my flight.

I’ve had people get mad at me during casual rounds.  I was playing Spanish Bay once as a single, got partnered with an old guy and his son.  On the first hole, I left my putt a couple feet short, walked up and putted out, and the old guy says ‘so that’s how it’s gonna be…’.   I’m sorry, wut?…

However, in match play your opponent has the right to not allow you to putt out if he / she is further from the hole.
