Sitting here eating dinner and watching the Waste Management Open. The TPC Scottsdale Stadium course doesn't get enough love. Lol. Yes, it's not the best course in the valley. Heck, I don't think I'd rank in in the Top 5. However, it's an excellent course for a tournament. The final five holes provide plenty of risk/reward and drama. The 14th is tough. The 15th is an excellent risk/reward par 5. Bogies and eagles are an option. The 16th isn't great, but it's a solid par 3 especially with the pressure added from the billion fans ready to pounce. The 17th is a fantastic risk/reward par 4. The 18th provides plenty of risk if one attempts to cut the corner over the pond and bring the church pews into play.

For most players the cost is a huge hurdle, but it's certainly worth playing at least once. I played it a couple of weeks before the WM with the grandstands up, and I had a blast.

While enjoying her when she was younger, Michelle Wie...West, just needs to go away. She's now b******* about how much trying to compete with males cost her physically.

Um, wait, who/what exactly was the stimulus for that? Potentially your parents (see numerous WRX posts/threads on this) or are you blaming Nike, who paid you millions or those of us who watched you and contributed to your popularity and financial benefits?

You were surrounded with countless rules challenges on the course which were self inflicted, infractions which you denied which showed a level of entitlement, not to mention just bad golf that you hopefully don't pass on to your young Wie.

A LIV vs PGA Ryder Cup event would be awesome = very unpopular. PGA fans are afraid of it happening = REALLY unpopular. Greg Norman is a golf visionary......ok ok thats enough I will stop there. LIV vs PGA would get watched though.

I thought we did this in Vegas a few months ago and it turned out to be a total dud, with the LIV guys getting run off the course.

It was right before (the week before if I remember right) the dud fake golf TGL and there is NO WAY Tiger and Rory would let anything top that. Not with the 10s of millions spent on a single use stadium for indoor golf. The whole thing was crapped on from the beginning all the way through. No serious advertising. No follow up. No promotion. It was on a Tuesday night. Just ridiculous. Zero effort at entertainment or real competition. Tiger made sure of that. I have no idea why they even bothered other than they were obligated contractually and put in the minimum effort so TGL would not get upstaged.

How about a REAL Cup style match, on a real golf course, with real teams, merch, promotion, over a weekend, during the day, on a real course. I would watch that. Im not watching the TGL, like most people. I barely watch the PGA now and I watch LIV even less.

I have no doubt this is an unpopular opinion.

TBF, I don't know if it will be unpopular here, I think most feels as you do. I'd guess she still can't face down her parents so the world entire is to blame for the path they set her on. Shame, because she could have had so much more success and a much better time of it if not for the direction they pushed her in.

You mean the TGL shows that are getting 5-10x the ratings that LIV gets for the final rounds of its tournaments? 😂

TGL is goofy golf and it’s still crushing LIV.  Which is also goofy golf but professes to be real golf played by ‘the best players in the world’.  Maybe in some alternate reality.  😂

LIV and their shills keep floating these competition ideas for the simple reason that nobody is paying attention to them and they’re simply looking to glom onto the PGA Tour in some way to get eyeballs on their players.  That’s why they promoted the heck out of that goofy match in Vegas and then turned into crickets when their two guys got waxed.

Ratings are not my opinion, but they are reality.  LIV is a joke that almost nobody is watching or paying attention to at all.  As evidenced by their recent financial disclosures, they are losing massive amounts of money while generating minimal revenue.  From a business, financial and fan perspective, they are an abject failure.  Those aren’t opinions.  Those are facts, hard and fast numbers.

Ok. Like I said I don't watch it. And it's still your opinion, in my opinion. How about them apples?

I do not understand why people go onto the unpopular opinion forum and get worked up over an unpopular opinion.......ITS LITERALLY IN THE NAME OF THE THREAD....... SOMETHING is gonna make the feels come out......its the point of the post.....its not about winning the argument, it's about the UNPOPULAR OPINIONS and how different people are.

For example: TGL will fold before LIV.

Fun!

I know what you mean. I play with a guy like that. He is always talking about something or telling jokes on the tee box. I'll wait for him to finish. I like it when he says we don't have all day are you going to tee off? I'll reply just waiting for you to shut up. Then he will say something like guys we must be playing with a pro.

If anyone happens to be talking when he is teeing off he will say I need quite please.

People who are sensitive to things like this are just looking for an excuse. I don't recall asking for perfect quiet the last time I was on a breakaway on the ice.

Having to give strokes because of someones handicap gets old. I'd like to see a better system like I'll play the Blues, and you can play the Whites, or Reds, but you still have to hit all the shots and make putts to beat me. Giving people a million strokes and playing the same tees gets ridiculous.  I think it might help with sandbagging, but that's my opinion.

Nothing is stopping you from doing that. When I play my dad we will generally move teeboxes around for each of us if I have to give him more than 18 shots. I usually am playing 1 back from him anyways so it doesn't happen often. If you have to give someone more than a stroke a hole it seems like a general sign that you could either move back one and be fine, or your friend/partner/competitor is playing too far back anyways.

Isn't this the literal reason to have a handicap? To allow two players with differing abilities a way to compete directly? Sandbagging is a completely different discussion since it relies on honesty of the player, no amount of tee switching can make up for that.

I encourage my golf buddies to use the gallery rule if they lose their ball in the center of the fairway.  I even encourage my opponents, though not in sanctioned competitions.  A touring pro has every advantage... a coach, a nutritionist, a psychologist, a teacher, a massage therapist, marshals, spectators, rules officials and cameras.  They almost never lose a ball.  I think the average Joe deserves one or two of those advantages.  A small leveling of the playing field.

I think this entirely reasonable for rec/buddy golf. A good number of my golf buddies have less than perfect vision and it's not uncommon the whole group to lose sight of it after a certain point, even if they see the first part of the trajectory. If it's generally agreed that the ball was headed to a non-penalty area, the "gallery" rule (as you call it!) is how it's played. I suspect this is pretty common, actually.

(Not talking about more serious play here, so don't start an argument about how this isn't "golf". It'll fall on deaf ears.)

After visiting golf museums and exhibits in all 50 states while traveling country on business for a decade.

For all the technology of clubs, scientific course management and science training of the day no one is shooting way better scores than Hogan, Jones, (both with careers hampered from injury or health condition) Palmer or Nicklaus who used clubs that were as rudimentary as could be but maybe state of art for their day (but those putters, especially Calamity Jane, Bulls Eye type or the 8802 type) in The Masters, U.S Open, The Open or PGA Championship on courses that most today would complain about conditions from tee box to flag.

I gotta ask, what is the gallery rule?  Never heard of that.

And how do you lose a ball in the center of the fairway?

I've seen cases where the ball plugs so deep and the earth fills in on top of it that it disappears. Happens here in our wet Winters.  Other cases where we will wait and wait until we think the group in front of us has reached the green so that we can hit our drives over the crest of a hill. A shot might be straight down the middle with no curvature and it is nowhere to be found when we arrive at the spot that it should be. Possibly picked up and pocketed by a laggard in that group in front of us.  These are cases in casual golf among friends where one should not be penalized for a lost ball.

@Double Mocha Man has listed most of the ways I can think of, but I was playing with a friend who lost his ball in the middle of the fairway once and I still don't know how it happened.

It was an uphill tee shot, with the fairway levelling out about 200 yards from the tee, so it's ever so slightly blind. He hit his drive up the middle--literally right up the middle--we all hit our tee shots and get in the cart to go to our balls.

His is nowhere to be found. The fairway is flat, it wasn't soft, and it's separated by a ridge with internal OB from the neighbouring hole and OB on the other side, so there was no chance of someone wandering on to fairway and picking it up.

To this day, I still don't know what happened to that ball. The only thing I can thing of is that a bird or animal picked it up thinking it was an egg, but we didn't see anything like that.

It was a casual round, so we all agreed he could drop an play his second without penalty.

Idk what a gallery drop is. We’ve been playing LCP for 20 years (ground is pretty wet in NW Oregon; a lot of our local tourneys are that way too). Golf is hard enough without hitting a ball covered in mud. We’re not on f***ing tour.

Hit a drive down the middle a few years ago, and couldn't find the ball. There was a broken sewer grate in the middle of the fairway. I looked down and saw at least a dozen golf balls three feet down.
