That. Is. Funny.

why?

if you're trying to shoot a certain yardage, whether that'd be a chip, full swing, or a pitch, don't you want the most accurate number?

i like to know my number, which will then give me an idea as to how i should hit, whether i'm 10 yards, 20 yards, or 50 yards out.

Pulling a range finder on a chip shot?

Yeah, that IS funny.

i dare you to come laugh in my face when i pull out my rangefinder from 10 yards out and blade it right at you 😄😄

jkjk. idk. for me, it's more so for the peace of mind rather than the actual number. helps me commit to the shot and not worry about how far to hit.

Double digit minus scores in scrambles. Massive bullxxxx. Played one yesterday, greens super firm & it was windy, hard to get a PW close and top three scores were, -10,-11 & -13. Winner claimed he personally drained two from plus 50 feet. My group's score was +5 over multi-year average. The -10 group played behind us, on holes where reaching in two is boss, they were never close. It's hard not to notice long shots arriving from adjacent tee boxes. So never happened. These guys would have to hold better proximity & putting percentages than tour guys to shoot these scores. I play w/ scratch guy, who can hit 17/18 and even on benign days he's over par because the greens are that tough & these guys are draining this many birdies? Yeah, right.

A minus 13 is fairly legit in scrambles. That score or a little better is where our team usually finishes. And we are totally honest.  But here's the rub, we rarely ever win. In front of us or behind us are minus 19's or minus 20s.  That's where the funny business comes in. It's either a team of virtually all scratch handicaps or a team with a good eraser on their pencil.

Funny story I once read. Scramble team shoots 24 under and easily wins tournament. The next year the same team enters and the head pro decides to follow them in a cart. They shoot eight over!

I've never played in a scramble without another team on the scorecard. You exchange cards and go. How is it possible to get pencil whipped that bad ?

-24 to + 8 doesn't even sound possible.

Considering playing conditions, minus 13 was major BS.  Benign i can believe. Considering the tee skills of -10 group, yeah no way they pulled that score. It was very hard to control landing of short irons, gusty winds and greens that had PW shots hopping another 15 feet when normal is stopping them dead near divot. Short pitches & chips, even those real hard to be under 10 feet.

No oversight the first year and they cheated their asses off.

I've more than once hit 18 GIRs and shot over par, including a round where I hit every fairway too. You can laugh at it afterwards, but it's one of the most agonising feelings I've ever had in golf.

If your guy's doing it with any sort of regularity, I congratulate him for not having run up some rope from a beam in the garage.

Yeah, that one day he was highly pissed, He's since worked his short game and this year it's much better. Treat to have him join, guy is real deal. The course forces anyone to sharpen short game just to play to index. Management prides itself on green conditioning, it's premium grade on a municipal course. They saved the course from oblivion.

Private clubs are just as bad as municipal courses anymore for slow play.  Slow play usually occurs because one or two groups impact all other groups behind them and they don’t allow or want people to skip them.  Since it appears GPS is starting to become a regular things in carts - let’s use the data captured on the GPS and associate time spent on the course as a regulator for tee time selection.   data driven decisions

if you take 5 hours - your tee times start at noon

if you take 4.5 hours - your tee times start at 11am

if you take 4 hours - your tee times start at 8am

Why allow a group that is known to be slow have a 8;00am tee time?    This approach allows all people to do what they want but let the time captured to dictate future tee time selections.

That GPS data will need to recognize open holes in front of certain groups. Especially if that open area didn't exist when the group teed off on #1.
