Dynamic Gold 120 S300 / X100

I am currently playing with DG S300 and love everything about them except for how heavy they are. I have read a few posts on these, but didnt find what I was looking for. I know there are more people out there that have experience with these shafts, and would love your insight.

The regular DG S300 shafts are the perfect flex/flight/feel for me, so I am very intrigued with the idea of the DG 120 line. I have read in a few places that the 120's play soft to flex. What are your thoughts on this?

Anyone have the DG 120's and have some feedback/reviews on these? Do they play soft to flex? Has anyone hard-stepped them and have any reviews on that? Would the X100 120's be a better option? X100 softstepped?

Anyone have any 120 S300 / X100 direct comparisons? My local shop doesnt have the X100 120's to test.

Thanks in advance.

120 s300 hard stepped once would likely put you in the exact same fcm as s300. X100s are at least a half flex above that.

I like DG 120 S300 straight in because I always felt the DG s300 was too heavy and too stiff feeling, even if the correct fit. I don’t think the 120 s300 is a lot softer, but it is a little softer. The 118g weight is the bigger factor in terms of differences I noticed. In numerous fittings it has proven out that heavy shafts wear me out and iron shafts under 100g also are a no go. Always end up in midweight shafts so it’s the best of the DG lineup for me. I always liked the DG Pro until this one came along. The DG 120 is also ahead of the AMT’s in my book.

I have the 120 TI S400 and love the performance. For reference, the TI S400 and the standard S300 are the same shafts, except the TI S400 is weight sorted. Here's what True Temper says about it - "There is no difference between those two shafts besides the Tour Issue tolerances. Unlike Dynamic Gold S300 vs. S400, there is no weight difference in the DG 120 S300 vs. S400 TI so the S400 TI is basically an S300 TI. We decided to stick with S400 branding for the DG 120 TI model since that is so well known in the standard Dynamic Gold TI range though".

IMO, the 120 plays exactly like the standard S300, just in a lighter package. As I get older (currently 48) the lighter shafts like the 120s are easier to manage coming down the last 5 or 6 holes.

Hmm. Sounds great I’d love to try them. Just got fit for ping i210’s at true spec golf and they came up with Oban ct 115 x flex and I’ve been an x100 guy. Wonder if the dg 120 s400 ti would be comparable.

The Obans are 90/shaft. The dg’s are significantly less.

That is the stock shaft that comes with the club. I hit it well, but it does always favor the left side of the course. That’s just a club that I haven’t looked into reshafting (yet). Will prob be my next one.

I’ve kind of been thinking in order to try and completely eliminate the left side of the course (which is usually where I am), maybe the DG 120 X100 soft stepped would be the better choice?

But would love some more info from everyone on here

I've been using the DG120 X100's the last couple weeks in my irons. I don't think they feel super stiff at all and am fairly happy with them.

For reference I usually fall into the 120 gram shaft profiles and have used KBS Tour 120 and PX LZ 120. DG 120 is straighter than the LZ and launch about the same. I think the stiffer tip helps with dispersion so when I work the ball it doesn't overdue it.

Compared to KBS tour they are fairly close to be honest with the KBS a little higher launch, but I think the DG 120's spin a little more and don't feel as good.

Which Project X LZ’s? 6.0? 6.5? Also, which KBS Tour 120’s? S? X?

I have hit both of the above shafts quite a few times so I have a pretty good idea of their characteristics.

How would you compare the flex/stiffness of the DG 120 X100 to the two?

Project X LZ 6.0 Stiff and KBS Tour Stiff

DG120 X100 is the same weight so they are all fairly similar to be honest. DG120 does have different feel in that it's crisper feeling. Performance is closer to the KBS than the LZ I think. It's certainly not harsh or hard to load for me. It's almost as if you combined KBS Tour and regular Dynamic Gold and made the weight 120. Or maybe a higher launching KBS Tour-V X-Stiff. I'm a little worried about spin in the shorter clubs, but the weather has turned cold so it's hard to really gauge that now.

Switched to them a couple weeks ago and certainly like them better than the LZ in the same head. Can control the ball better and misses aren't as wayward. That soft middle in the LZ has proven to be too tricky for me to handle consistently.

I'm probably moving the T100's next year and I'm torn as to what to get in them. Probably will be between the DG120 X100 and KBS Tour S+ soft stepped.

Playing Srixon z785’s with DG120 X100’s. Previously played the same head with modus 120x shafts. My first impression is wow, the things are sweet! I always felt like the modus shafts were nice when i was more deliberate with my tempo but felt terrible when I would get quick. The x100s have given me a little higher and straighter flight along with a 3-5 yard jump. I don’t know spin numbers but both would hit and stop the same, other than when I would overdraw the modus shafts and have them run out more than I liked.

Best of all, these shafts feel so smooth and not harsh like I feared they might! My 7-iron SS is around 88-90mph so I’m not the hardest swinger but maybe on the upper half. Huge fan, couldn’t be more pleased.

I am looking for new iron shafts. @COmedic I have the same swing characteristic you stated above, but as I just turned 51 , I'm afraid the dg120 X100 may be too much.

Was fitted into a z785s with Modus 120x at Lake Nona, but in the course they don't performed for me good, and wore me out in the back nine.

KBS Tour 120S in what web fittings put me into, but the feel heavy and too lively in the tip.

Currently playing DGS400 in wedges and love them on full swings.

So now in doubt of DG120S or X

@TylerJ89 any follow up from your experiences?

I actually went a totally different route.  After hitting many different shafts in that time period, I actually hit the Nippon Modus 120S the best.  Right in that 116g-118g shaft weight, which is exactly what I was looking for.  They felt amazing and had a great ball flight.  Dont regret them one bit.

I have been on the shaft hunt forever.  Got fit over a year ago at the Mizuno Experience. The young guy took all of 20 minutes with me - wasn't pleased or convinced with the process.  I have played graphite for the last year Catalyst 100 stiff.  I love a slow tempo "rhythm move" so the Modus 105 or Dynamic Gold 105 is a lock for me.  The problem is all 11 shafts that I was "fit" for are 120's and stiff. Any thoughts on playing by feel vs. numbers?

@Randgolf 105 grams vs 120 grams is a huge difference in weight, and will result in a very different feel due to the different swing weights that would ultimately also result.

If you prefer lighter shafts and you can keep the ball straight with no ballooning effects, then get everything re-shafted with the lighter 105 shafts you prefer.

At the end of the day, you should always play the stiffest shaft you can comfortably handle, but also at the right WEIGHT that you can physically handle.

Makes sense?

For me personally, I can feel even 5 grams of difference in shaft weight, so I am very picky about the weight of the shaft, in addition to its degree of stiffness, and if the shaft is higher balanced or lower balanced.

I play the DG X100 120 version, but ive also played normal X100s a lot.

I think the two shafts are a little different.

All subjective of course but I think saving the extra weight is nice, especially on the long irons. With normal X100 the feel is a bit heavy and sluggish. Id say feel wise, normal X100 is pretty much the stiffest thing anyones going to play with thats a "normal" option youd get fitted for.

The 120 version feels stable and user friendly. Not too dissimilar to KBS Tour V in my opinion. Its very stable yet doesnt feel particularly stiff. To me its really nice.

Try it if you get chance, you might still prefer the normal X100

DG120 X100 similar to KBS Tour V? I would have thought the Tour V would be much stiff in the handle and midsection but softer in the tip. Higher balance also
