Connecticut 2020 Memberships/Passes

Hey guys, just my two cents on a few places I saw mentioned above as a 31 year old CT native living in Fairfield County.

 

Silvermine- Friend just joined there, $5k for the year, super crowded, course kinda stinks, very short and doesnt feel like a full course. Walk from hole 6-7 takes about 10 minutes

 

Mill River- Friend got in last year for I think $3K/year? Solid course but unspectacular, good conditioning, casual members, brand new patio is nice, pool is decent. Good culture, laid back with lots of golfers, good pace of play. Lots of younger members, very good spot.

 

New Haven- Friend joined I think for $5k/year. A+ golf course and conditions, way over subscribed, awesome clubhouse/bar/food. Steal if you can get it

But then I'd have to play Heritage Village. Played it for a CSGA 1 day before and it's not a place I'd want to play a lot.  Range isn't that great, layout kinda stinks. If I'm looking at Yale, Race Brook, Great River and possibly New Haven then HV is certainly a downgrade from all of those.

Been at Great River last 3 seasons but probably leaving. Cost for same age group over that time is up roughly $2K per year and I can't stand how soft they keep the golf course.  It's gotten to be in better shape than when I started but if you want relatively firm and fast greens Great River isn't the place.  They'll get the place in good shape for the bigger member events (which cost minimum of $400 per person in addition to already inflated membership) and that's it course is kept soft and fuzzy for regular member play during the week and even on weekends, it's a rare treat when the greens roller comes out. Newsletter said at end of last year they needed to add capital improvements charge to all members per month to account for topdressing, fescue maintenance and other course improvements only to have them not made and topdressing not occur.  Yale should be back open sometime 2026, Racebrook is in great shape, same with New Haven.
