Titleist Vokey feel-I know I'm in minority.

I know I'm in the minority on this one, but doesn't anyone jut not like the feel of Vokey wedges? I've steered clear of them for a long time, but decided to give some SM7's a whirl. Hit them today and they just feel harsh to me. Last wedges were RTX-3's which felt much more solid. I'm not giving up on them just yet. Before some chime in about strike location, I was middling them pretty consistently. Just curious if anyone else had the same experience/opinion.

You are not alone. Last Vokeys I tried were SM6 and I felt the same way about them. I had some original oil cans a looooooong tine ago and those felt tremendous.

I play them, but they feel kind of numb. Would be better served with a reasonable forging and a smaller profile. Just my 2 cents.

I've tried to like them but they are not my favorite. I really appreciate all the development gone into them and the large number of options to choose from but I just can't get into what I call a "clicky" feel that I think they have. I thought it was all in my head but when I head-to-head tested them against some Cleveland and my old Scratch wedges they lost for feel - for me. Hats off for bringing us milled grooves and faces though!

I currently have SM5s, they are honestly soft as Mizzy MP irons. Kicked my Mizuno S18s out the bag. Softer feel and more spin.

Maybe its because i disassemble spine align and add tip weights so D5.My sm6 and 5 and 2 and SM54 and previous 200s all feel similar and just fine.

I admire Vokey engineering and variety, but I'm not wild about the feel. Not sure what it is.

I prefer Callaway and Cleveland products.

What I don't personally dig about Vokeys is the look. Far too rounded for mine eyes.

Ive had 3 different sets of Vokeys. After I got the SM7's 2 summers ago I got rid of them in a month. I agree they felt harsh and hated them... And personally the Cleveland rtx 4s were better feeling and performing in every way for me

Does the feel of a wedge really matter?

I know that everyone can sense a slight difference, but the "feel" has never seemed to matter one bit to me during a round of golf.

I've played forged and non-forged. I've played multiple brands. I happen to have Vokeys now. All I can say is that results seem to be entirely tied to skill and ability while feel and sound are irrelevant.

I’ve gamed Vokeys for years, with SM7s being in my bag for 2 years. I do like the shape and performance; but found them a little “clicky”. That’s really splitting hairs though. I do like the feel of my new Glides, and I like how they feel consistent with my irons.

Hard to knock Vokey performance though. Lots of options and wonderful shapes.

It does to me in the area of feedback. I guess my main observation with the Vokeys is the difference between a good strike and a bad one aren't that much different feeling. I don't expect buttery smooth forged feeling wedges, but Vokeys just feel hard to me.

My experience has been quite the opposite. I'm a single-digit handicap and wedges are the strength of my game. I've played Nike VR, Mizuno MP, Cleveland CG and now Vokey SM6 wedges.

I've been playing Vokeys for the last 2 seasons and they are without doubt as good as anything else I've touched. Plenty of feedback IMHO.

For me “feel” in a club is probably most important in the wedges. When I’m within 70 yards all shots are feel shots and a wedge that offers no feedback makes those shots more difficult. This is actually the exact reason I left Vokey wedges years ago.

The "feel" of a club the "feel" one uses to hit a shot are two separate things. Same word, different meanings.

The feel of a club through impact is essentially the sound that it makes combined with how it gets through the ground as perceived through the hands. Obviously hitting it flush feels better than not because there's less extraneous vibration. And certain misses like those off the toe induce a particularly bad twisting in the hands that is often described as "feeling bad."

But that is not the same as saying _"I have a good feel for distance because I can pitch a ball within 3-yds of a given number."_ Such a statement presumes good contact and says something about the players actual abilities beyond merely hitting a crisp shot.

One is a reflection of mechanical characteristics while the other is a reflection of skill. To whatever degree they are intertwined, it is not enough to affect one's actual abilities.

Do Vokeys make a different sound? Possibly. But to whatever degree that's the case it's not going to limit a player by any stretch of the imagination. People can have all the supposed preferences they want but I would encourage them not to embrace unnecessary preferences where they have no correlation to actual scoring ability.

Lol, thanks for clarifying how I approach my game.

Totally agree that "feel" off the face is fairly immaterial to someone's ability to judge a shot, as by the time you get any feedback it's too late to affect anything as the ball has already left the face. But more critical for me is the overall feel of the club - how does it swing, how easy is it to tell where the club head is during that swing? I find that far more critical when I have to hit a partial wedge shot than noise or clickiness, and favour heavier clubs to get that feel.

That being said I like the overall feel of a Vokey, and can normally get pretty good results. I do prefer the slightly head heavy feel of my Engages, so to game the Vokeys I'd probably need to add some lead tape.

I agree with what others have mentioned. Vokey's dont feel as soft as some of the other's. The PING Glide 3.0 to me feel/sound better at impact. I even think the TM Hi-Toe feels/sounds better. But I think it is subjective. Vokey's are great wedges, in fact I think all the OEM's are pushing really good wedges nowadays

Early 2000’si had some spin milled Oilcans that were great feeling and performed well.

When I replaced them, the newer versions didn’t offer that finish, nor did they feel good....too clicky.

Fast forward to the jet black SM7’s and they feel great. I picked up a 58* M about 3 weeks ago and liked it so much I grabbed a 54*M today.

Better feel than the RTX4’s I was using ( I see they’re already about to be replaced in the Cleveland line )

It does. I tried hard to swap to glide 3. And today I pulled the worn out glide forged out for a practice session. And no way I can say that it doesn’t matter. I know where the ball is going off the glide forged by the feel of the strike. I have no reasonable clue off short (50 yard and in) shots with the glide 3.0. And I’ve played them almost a month now. Order for fresh glide forged went in today.
