Cobra Fly-z Pro Forged Irons

Are these any good? In my Ebay browsing, I saw LH new in wrapper (3-pw) sets offered by Proclubs for $315. I remember these looking pretty sweet back when they came out 5 years ago. Anyone game them, any comparisons to Mizuno MPs? Thanks.

You need to buy those. I played the Fly Z+ irons for 4 years, and the only reason I replaced them was because I won a set of Ben Hogan PTx Pros here on golfwrx. Looking back on my time with the Cobras, I should have done a blended set with the Fly Z Pros.

I can’t compare them to Mizuno MP irons, but anyone who tried my Fly Z+ irons liked how they felt. I’m sure the Pros feel really good as well. If that was a right handed set, I would probably buy them.

Lol. I just bought the LH Nike VR pro blades, now I'm probably going to pop on these. These Ebay sellers have to stop, I'm too weak.

My lad has just started playing and somehow my MP4s have found their way into his bag! I bought a set of Cobra King Forged CB/MB from 2016 as replacement and have been hitting them back-to-back with the MP4s for a few weeks. I think the King has slightly more tungsten but the head design is practically the same as the Fly-Z. The feel of the Cobras is more ‘metallic’ for want of a better word but they also feel more dense and powerful as well. I’ve only got one round in with them so far and I can honestly say that after a couple of holes in I wasn’t missing my MP4s.

I know what you mean about eBay sellers and good deals. I really want a Toulon Las Vegas, and there are a bunch of Odyssey Milled #7 models for a good deal that are very tempting! I’m going to try and stay strong and buy the Las Vegas for my birthday present to me!

An update, I bought these brand new in January and just this week took the plastic off and played them. These are extremely nice feeling irons, with the dg s300 (which I love). I what I love the best is the turf interaction, not sure what it is, but it cuts through better than any iron I have. Anyways, going to play a few rounds and see if they are a keeper.

DANG! Those look great!   I have the Cobra Amp Cell Pro's.  PW-6iron MB's ,Generation right before these.   You also seem to  have found the COMBO model?  PW-7iron MBs 6iron-3iron CBs?

I got mines for $129.00 practically brand new (Roger Dunns red tag demo) BEST purchase ever.
 

These are the most forgiving blades I have played,  this is comparison to gaming Nike 03 forged blades for a bit (did the blades make me better phase) Had a bosses set of MP68's for a fun trial.  And did some testing/fitting with the Titleist 714MB's.  (I ended up with 714AP2's though what a contrast)

 

Anyways, I have had GREAT success with the AMP Cell Pro's  Zero complaints.  The bigger benefit though is making sure the shafts match. You cant strike it well if cant deliver the head to to the ball.

Comparison in feel the MP68' and MP4's (at the equivalent time) felt just a touch softer.  But the Nike Forged and 714MB's were surely harsher.

 

The Larger Muscle in the Cobra's seem to give a much more forgiving feel on slight miss hits in comparison to all the rest.  The equivalent MB's are much more traditional. To clarify they are MORE Blades rather than "MB's" or "Muscle" backs. The Cobra gives it a Bigger muscle in my opinion.

 

Works like a blade, misses like a blade, but just a touch more forgiving.  It requires a quality strike indeed,  but the quality shots are predictable and appreciable. 

TL: DR

 

Newer Versions of what I got 3-PW for $315.  ($45 per club)  If you have the money you wont regret it.  (left handed to boot)  If you struggle with them.... $315 is what you blow in green fees in 5 rounds anyways.

Yes, I think they only made the LH in combo. I will say the 6-3 aren't much of a cavity back.

Tried them at a Cobra demo day, decent clubs might find a set myself!!!

Like others have said in this thread, I played the Fly Z+ ones and they were incredible for me. They didn’t really fit me length or shaft wise, but I still hit them well.

 

I still have them and am seriously considering slapping some new shafts in them.

They are great, just haven't really had the chance to play them all that much because I have way too many sets of irons. How much is the set you are looming at?

Thanks for your reply. They cost 125 € (> 145 USD). Curiously, the seller says the entire set - LH, 4 thru PW - are blades. I am going to get them and give them a try.

That remark about 'turf interaction' intrigued me. Think I get a similar, incisive feeling with a trusty old set of TM Tour Preferred blades from 87.
