Dick's sporting goods launch monitor

Hit some clubs there and after the first one I said, "that is straightest shot I've ever hit." After 10 minutes and watching a couple other people hit I realized, it doesn't read side spin. It even displayed on the screen after every shot, 0 side spin. The golf guy there didn't even know, he didn't believe me at first. I tried to hit a huge slice, dead straight.

 

This is lawsuit material.

 

The only issue is finding an attorney willing to take on this store. I won't even try but I can't believe they are allowed to sell clubs based on insanely falsified data.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure something is up if every single shot is dead straight.

 

In this case, do you sue DSG or the maker of the monitor?

I'm not an attorney so I wouldn't know who to sue. But someone should do something. I would have no idea where to start nor would I want to. I'll just not go there.

I realized this years ago....imagine a line down the middle of the screen if you hit it to the left of it you get a draw....to the right a fade. It is what it is, I don't get bent out of shape on this kind of stuff nor would I normally purchase a club from them to begin with.

How do we solve this? I'm open to ideas that don't involve a lawsuit. Like I said, I wouldn't.

There's always the spread the word method, get people to stop going there. Contact them?

Being at a place like DSG, they employees there aren't going to know how use/setup the launch monitor properly. You should know that going in. They aren't gonna pay someone with actual golf/golf club knowledge enough to work there. It would be shocking if they knew enough to intentionally setup the LM to ignore side spin.

Saying that people should just know is a cop out. People go there because they don't know.

Or at the very least go back and get information on exactly what kind of LM it is.

The average consumer would probably know even less about the whole scenario and assume they just suck at golf when it turns out they don't hit it straight in real life, I would imagine. Or, they'll return it not having any idea that they actually didn't hit it straight every time when they tested it.

I went to Dick's a few years back to have an Eye2 lob wedge head shafted with DG S300 or something similar weight wise. Kid said they had the DG in stock. I said great! Went back a few days later and it had some Apollo/Propel type shaft with around 12-15 step pattern. I just let it be. Didn't want to get the kid in any kind of trouble so just let it go. He was a nice kid who probably thought I was ignorant. I get that a lot. lol..

I gained 30 yards with the driver when I go there, it has to be real.

I know the guy that works there, plays at the same course I do. I'll start there and ask him for info. I asked if it was configured wrong and he wasn't sure.

Why not take the most logical first step and post here exactly which DSG this occurred at. Then at least ppl on here that may live near that store would know to avoid it.

You don’t really think this is happening at every single store company wide? The 2 stores I’ve been to local to me both have perfectly functional launch monitors.

to comment further, people that don't know, don't know. Meaning they will never know unless someone tells them. Not making a moral judgment on DSG one way or another. If you know enough to recognize that the LM wasn't reading side spin, you knew enough to be aware of the level of "fitting" or knowledge you were at risk of getting at a big box store. I don't trust that any of those departments had people working in them with any more than a base knowledge of the items stocked in them. Home Depot isn't full of licensed plumbers and contractors that can speak in depth about what will best suite your needs. Sure you run into the odd retired professional or someone with actual working knowledge in that area, but for the most part, those people can make more money working in those arenas over retail.

Stop going to Dicks for buying golf clubs. You leave a bad review on Google... Maybe call the BBB or something, then you move on with life.

Unless you have thousands and thousands of dollars to burn over suing a giant corporation....then by all means, rock on. Would be a cool thread to follow!

I enjoy going to one bay at our PGA Tour Superstore. It has a Foresight LM that is wacky. My normal driver carry is 240, 250 max...and that one bay I have to nuke it to get 200. I'll hit a driver that carries 195, and then a 4 iron that carries 190.
