SAT question

Hey guys, I have a couple questions about the SAT. I've been told by a few college coaches that I'll need the SAT or ACT to be considered for a scholarship, or entry to the college. I've done a bit of research on the SAT, and have a few questions:

 

is the math section just numbers or is it calculus, trigonomotry etc?

is the critical reading just sentence completion and grammatical errors?

 

If somebody oculd give me a complete lowdown on the test I'd be really grateful

Most colleges won't even begin to look at you if you haven't taken the SAT.

The reading score, is compiled of 3 or 4 reading sections, ranging from grammatical correctness to being able to understand the questions

The math score...is compiled in the same way the reading is, with questions ranging from basic algebra to Calculus to geometry to arithmatic

The reading score is compiled of 2 things.... The essay, and around 80 questions, i'm not exactly sure but i think some of the questions are grammatical

An ok score is 1600, anything over that is decent, I scored a 1740 my second time and i'm content with that.

If any other members here are any older than early 20s, you probably remember the old SAT. In that system, 1600 was a perfect score. Now there is a writing portion, which adds an additional 800 points possible. So all of you who are reading things that say the average SAT score has risen to 1100 or so, that is out of 2400, not 1600. I also believe they took all of the analogies out of the grammar section as well. Been a while since I took it so maybe somebody else can lend more info.

This is the official website of the company that administers the tests...they have samples, info., and practice tests. Good place to start.
